Came here because Ramengers next door was closed. They claim to serve Northern Chinese food without MSG, preservatives and coloring dyes. We ordered a spicy beef rice dish which was not spicy ATALL. They were overly generous with the rice, but really stingy with the beef. The sides that were included were very good, but there were not enough of them. This dish was not a terribly good value, even though it was around $ 10. All I ask is for a little more beef, a little less rice. We also ordered the Spicy and Sour Pork Noodle Soup. I’ve never tried something like this before, but the soup base tasted similar to Hot and Sour Soup in many Schezuan restaurants. There were little bits of ground/minced beef floating in the soup, as well as an assortment of vegetables. There was a notable amount of potato chunks in the soup, so much so that every bite was very starchy. They should probably rename this dish to Spicy and Sour Pork POTATO Soup. The noodles, which are supposed to be made fresh, tasted pretty good but appeared very sloppily made. But, this might be how they’re supposed to look, so I won’t deduct marks for that. Overall, the food was okay, the service was okay and the price was okay. But, anyone on the Atkins diet should steer clear of this place due to the excessive amounts of carbohydrates found in each dish.

Another restaurant replacing the cattle café… if you want a good soup then i beleived this the place… Not so big… i love the decors colorful frames that matches the paint of the wall. service is good and very friendly. free parking shared by other stores… street parking aswell is available. wasnt able to check if they have wifi… big TV by the wall and playing chinese movie? I tried the combo meal it was a chicken with rice and some veggies… seaweeds. and a soup… tasted good, generous portion the chicken tasted like our adobo dish in the philippines. Reasonable prices for their meals… most clients eating soup that day… smells good though but i already ordered chicken with rice… ill try the soup next time i drop by… Not a bad place to eat chinese food… or should i say old xian’s food… good for family, group and kids… accept credit, debit and cash, noise level is average… mostly asian patrons… chinese…

Indecent practice in pricing. They don’t have any printed menu to take and simply advised people to check out their menu online. So today I called and wanted to order something to go. They didn’t have the item I wanted and suggested another item. The price online for that item was $ 9.99 and I was OK with that. But when I was in the restaurant for pickup their charged me $ 11.99 for that item– 20% more than what’s on their online menu. If they have increased the price they should have updated their online content, which would only take less than a minute. Baiting the customer with lower price and charge them more upon pickup is simply very indecent practice.

Very authentic northern Mainland Chinese restaurant! Great flavours in their stir-fry noodles and rice noodles. However, to get to 5 star, lamb noodles need more lamb, lamb soup needs more depth and savory. Great service and environment. Will definitely return!

Thought we eat here after picking up meat at the meat shop next door. Food is decent with different types of noodles to choose from(wide, thin, red potato, etc). Sauces are good~ spicy but not too spicy, got the herbal fusion for those more into culinary arts. Service is decent~ they actually ask if u need tea refill unlike some other more ghetto Asian restaurants.

We were in the area looking for Cattle Café and found out that this Northern Chinese restaurant has taken its place. The restaurant looked somewhat busy so we decided to dine here rather than look for another restaurant. We ordered a brine egg, cumin lamb burger and beef noodle soup(choice of noodles). Food arrived relatively quickly. The egg was hard boiled but tasted much like a plain hard boiled egg. I was expecting more flavour. The cumin lamb burger was nicely seasoned but I found it to be a tad too salty. I had to wash it down with large sips of tea. The braised beef noodles was tasty. The biang biang noodles were a good chewy texture. The soup broth was light and much less salty than the lamb burger. Service was at level expected for such establishments. The staff kept speaking mandarin to us despite us ordering in English. We had to flag staff to refill our tea and to get our bill.

Planned to eat at Cattle Café yesterday and surprised to see this restaurant in it’s place. Decided to give it a try. Ordered #40 noodle with beef sauce? It was a dry noodle with some meat and tofu sauce on top. The sauce was a bit sweet and a tiny bit sour. Thought it was a bit strange tasting and there wasn’t enough sauce. Tried adding the chili paste to give it more taste. It looked good, but it literally didn’t have much taste. It wasn’t even spicy. Also ordered the lamb noodles. Pretty tasty but not much meat. For both dishes we ordered the handmade noodles which were chewy but pretty good. We also ordered the pork& choice dumplings that were tasty. Came to $ 26 before tax. Surprisingly the waitresses were super nice and attentive and their English was pretty goods. Caught me off guard since it’s a northern Chinese restaurant so I was expecting the usual no frills(and sometimes rude) mainlander service. To be honest it’s probably rated top 30% of all time service I’ve had and one of the few times an Asian restaurant actually deserved a decent tip! For the record I’m Asian so been to lots of Asian restaurants!

Yesterday while looking for a restaurant to eat in the warm heat of the ‘almost’ summer nights of Vancouver, we were already in the area, and our first choice to eat was closed. We remembered that this restaurant was opening in the former Cattle Café location, and wanting to try something totally new, we ventured here. I have never been to the restaurant previously here, so I can’t say how much money they spent on renovating the joint to make it like theirs compared to an HK café but it’s a nice roomy place to have a meal from us coming in here. There’s quite a few seats in this restaurant, I would call it mid-sized, and while we were seated their one sheet double sided menu was given to us. Since none of us were extremely familiar about what was on the menu, and the food itself, we had to take our time with the waitress coming by at least two times till we ordered. So amongst the four of us, an order of Xian cold noodles, spicy cold noodles, cucumber with garlic, brine egg(yes. one egg), spicy cumin lamb burger, spicy and sour pork burger, and pork & chives dumplings in hot & sour soup. While sitting around for our food there was a tv playing internet streamed videos of street food in China, with no volume, but we kept on watching it to see all the exotic crazy foods that were presented, and the wait for the food wasn’t long at all. Each dish came one by one, and we were all given our utensils and bowls prior to the food coming, so they already have the sharing covered. Unfortunately I do not know which noodle was what, as both almost looked the same, from the Xian to the spicy, but the one that was deeper red, had a great mixture of spice and flavour that all of us were going for, it was a dish that was presented quite nicely, with some fresh bak choy on the side, cucumbers chopped up, bean sprouts on the side, the spicy chili sauce with garlic and chopped green onions mixed in… time to mix it all up, luckily we had a person at the table that enjoyed doing this. Each bite had a slight kick of spice. and you can order it to your level of spicy, as they ask when they take your order, highly recommended on the cold noodles. The cucumbers were pretty nice as an appetizer, not overly garlic lasting… but if your on a date and want some type of mouth to mouth resuscitation that might be tough. Nice sized cuts, it wasn’t evenly pretty, but the taste and the coolness of the cucumbers was there. The burgers/sandwichs were a little dry on the bun side, and looked like McD’s egg McMuffins. without the egg, so I did need some water after gobbling my portion. The only thing I really didn’t like was the soup portion of the dumplings, a little overly salty, but I have a feeling that this is how it should be, the dumplings however were pretty good, and eventually we saw a table of girls right next to us order steam dumplings, that’s what we will do next time. They just opened, and they are going still in the works of getting everything right, as many items on their menu had little cover up stickers saying«coming soon» but I like what I see here, seating was good, place was clean, never felt rushed where I had to ask for the bill, and the food tasted great, and the prices were very resonable.(NOTE — grand opening 15% off currently going on) When we received the bill, with the special that is currently going on, and all the things we ordered, it came up to just under $ 34… for 4 people that is cheap! Even at regular price this place is resonable. The plaza which this place is has some parking, but it’s limited as you have a Ramengers, Star Anise, a Phở joint, and Max’s Chicken, lots of food choices, make sure to watch where you are parking, there is signs to where these spots belong to. One last note, it’s CASHONLY here, so bring the paper but at least know that these one won’t burn too much of a hole in your bank account.
