I’m really torn about this place. I stop by every time I drive by and I live in North Van, and every time the service is a complete joke. I think the most simple way to describe this place is my last experience; the line up went out the door because the man working the front(who’s been there since forever) was engaged in a conversation with another customer who had already received his order.

This review is a 4 star out of 5, based on the food, not the service and certainly not the ambiance, or lack there of. Mmmm the chutney! I have gotten take-out from this place at least 30 times, though it has been over a year since I went here. They make many traditional Indian sweets, which look amazing, but I go for the veggie samosa’s and veggie pakora. For that food, I gave a 4 star rating. If I was rating on the customer service, it would be a 1 for sure. I only go there to pick up some yummy inexpensive food and not to have my butt kissed, so I don’t mind so much that the fellow there never smiles or says hello or even thank you. Meh.

Arrived into the restaurant during noon, no employee was seen on site. I rang the service bell continuously for 15 minutes until one of the employees came out of the back. They were clearly dazed as if they had just abruptly awoken from a nap. The Samosa also sucked. Fortunately the vegetable rice dish, came with a complimentary free pet(a baby mouse). 2 stars, because the food sucked but Jeremy the mouse has been quite the companion.

as everyone says the pakoras and veggie samosas are to die for … price has gone up to $.75 a samosa … but for the quality and taste its still worth it. i can remember WAY back(10 plus years ago) when they were only $.25 cents each! … my how times change ;) the pakoras are really really good and the price is $ 5 a pound … I usually get a half pound for $ 2.50 and that hits the spot. the sweet sauce for $ 1 or $.50 is a must IMO and I highly reccomend you try it for both the pakoras and the samosas. service is good … wish they were a bit more friendly. the massive selection of sweets is not for me … but I know its a great selection and pulls people in just for that. I have has the Channa Masala in the past and liked it but it was not up to the same level as the other items I mentioned.

In summary: Stick to the samosas and you’ll be happy. Everything else came with regrets. Order at the counter and wait. Service is indifferent. This is a place for take-out or a quick lunch stop, very bare bones, informal ambiance. Veggie samosas were life changing. Hot, crisp, flaky, melt in your mouth. They are quite heavy on the potato vs. other fillings, so certainly more of a treat.($ 0.75 each) (5 stars for the samosas!!) Tamarind chutney($ 0.75) Overly sweet, not the sweet/sour/tangy that I expected. Vegetarian thali($ 6.99) was very underwhelming.(3 stars) Shahi paneer($ 7.99) was the worst I’ve ever had.(0 stars) The large triangles of paneer reminded me of the way tofu is sometimes cut. The curry sauce tasted mostly like a canned creamy tomato soup with off-balanced spices… it was spicy like hot peppers, but not the flavorful kind of spicy that you expect with Indian cuisine. Kind of like you reduced some canned tomato soup and threw some cream and chiles into it, and then cut up some paneer and threw it into the mix until it was hot. Rice($ 4.00) Huge amount of rice, and no cheaper option for a smaller serving Crunchy Snacks:(0 stars) –The prices are not posted, which is a bit annoying. She asked if I wanted ‘2-scoops’ and I said sure, not knowing that that was a *lot* of snacks. –That ended up costing $ 5…ok, whatever. –I bought some of the snack mix that had dried chickpeas, nuts, peas, and crispy crunchy things… holy crap was it ever SALTY. Like, so salty that I threw it away! Lesson learned. I’ve purchased the same mix from other places and it was not that salty.

Like a few other reviews noted, this place severely lacks service… bored uninterested people bordering on rude. While the food isn’t terrible, it isn’t good enough to make up for the bad service.

An Indian acquaintance brought us some really good samosas from this place a while back so I decided to check it out. Outside the shop are very low priced lunches posted. So for about $ 5 I got a small soup size bowl of butter chicken and two pieces of naan bread. A tad small but bread was crispy fresh and hot. Still hungry I decided to try some of the abundant deep fries on the counter. Pepper pakora– potatoe stuffed and fairly spicey, Samosas– crispy and well packed, bread pakora– a mystery filling inside but was crispy and fresh as well. Note that these 4 item are deep fried and it’s warmed up for you in the fryer. Double fried crispyness! While I munched on this Sunday late afternoon a constant flow of customers came in for their samosas as well. Decors aren’t their strong point but if you like fresh and cheap food it’s a must try. Next time I’ll just get the regular $ 10 butter chicken, hopefully is a good size. The veggie Thali lunch special(see menu pic) sure looks big enough though.

So far, their veggie samosas are better than other ones I’ve had. I love how they’re fresh. Lol I think they are because I see them making them and they are always warm when I get them. They’re fulling and very cheap. I haven’t tried other items though. I don’t really like the look of the place. It seems it needs a huge renovation.

This place smells like a sweet shop in India. The quality is great, and the service can be improved, but hey, you are buying delicious tasting sugar. Get what you need and get out. This is not a fancy gelato place that you can try stuff out, but trust me, there are sweets(Mithai) here that will make you salivate. You will need to grab a few just for the road on the way home, and then enough for your family members. The prices are incredible, though my wife says back in her high school days, you could get 5 samosas for $ 1. The good old days. Go here to get your Mithai kick, its fresh, family run, and delicious. I mean a smile once in a while wouldn’t hurt :)

A great neighbourhood place to drop in either for a meal or to get some nibblies. We get the Pakoras for events like a pot luck when we run out of time to make something. I’m always amazed when two pounds of pakoras are the first dish to be eaten. Vegetable Samosa 2/$ 1 ***** Chicken $ 1 ***** Beef $ 1 *** Pakoras by the LB. ***** Paneer Pakora **** Spicy Mix ***** Vindaloo ****

Their samosas are worth the trip here alone, but be warned: the consistency of spiciness changes depending on who is making them. I personally want things to be so spicy that my brain explodes, but for the mild-tongued, I would suggest you try somewhere else(the vegetarian samosas are the ones with the most heat). This same rule goes for their curries as well; they are not messing around when it comes to heat. I’ve never been asked how hot I want my curry, I just take what they give me so I don’t know whether or not you can ask for a milder version(I think it would be a shame to mess with perfection, anyway!). Try the lamb cooked in yogurt sauce — it’s the best!

This not so secret Fraser St yum shop does all the wonderful India sweets but also meals. Best of all is their deal in samosas 2 veg/$ 1 and $ 1 chicken or beef. Sometimes you get a glimpse of the hard working granma Gs making the food magic in the kitchen sometimes you just sit and try to follow the foreign soaps operas endlessly playing on the shop tv.

Best samosas in the city! Other items are fairly good also, but décor was not great and staff were not super friendly. I have been back several times and the samosas are consistently great.

Their Samosas and Sweets are ok but not to die for. The service is extremely rude and the interior is dirty and stinky. They simply do not know how to provide service to a customer and have a attitude of «take it or leave it». I mean u r selling some samosas and curries, it’s not even a proper place to have a meal! The summary is if you are craving some samosas or sweets and dont have time or energy to make, just go and get them ignoring their rude faces.

I love this place. Awesome samosas — so cheap! and a whole assortment of delicious Indian sweets. I stop here regularly for a bucketful of samosas to bring to parties, and everyone loves me for it! I’ve never eaten in, but as a quick stop for deliciousness on the way home, this place can’t be beat!

Mmmmm — I really should celebrate Diwali every year now that I know about it :) This is our second Indian stop this weekend and with a festival, I had a good excuse to eat samosas! We picked this came here after talking to Reena M. who recommended it as good cheap samosas in Vancouver. The place is small and a bit dive-y looking but everything was very fresh. Service is so-so… they don’t chat much to you and aren’t that friendly. No problem — I waited about 5 – 10 minutes for my order and it was yummy! Ordered some veggie samosas and a dozen of the beef. Mmmmm. Fresh, nice exterior and spicy filling. The veggie ones are 2 for $ 1 and the beef and chicken ones are $ 1 each. The pakora looked very tasty but I’m also trying not to get fat so have to save those for next time! They have a ton of sweets to choose from. I don’t really care for indian sweets so I have no opinion on those, but the samosas are definitely worth coming for! This is just a to-go place since there are no tables here.

I’m wishing there is a zero star rating That’s what I might gave this BS restaurant whose initials are appropriate 100%BS If there was a negative star I would give that. Unhygenic impolite disorganized and bloody rude that’s what I tell of this place Used to be an occasional customer but now I avoid it like the plague It all started when I found a hair in one of the sweets and I just asked the lady handling the cash and the food without gloves to replace it(didn’t ask for a refund) as I like to support family businesses. ignored how they handled the ice of my lassi with bare hands as they carried it from the car as they ran out on a hot day. But I was shocked to see the response. She screams at me and complains that the hair must be on the raw materials and not from them. All I had asked was a different piece of dessert from wat I was offered. Anyways this family doesn’t know how to do business and has zero food safe sense. I haven’t entered that place since. Most unwelcoming shopping experience of my life. They treat customers as if we owe them money and they are blessing us by opening their restaurant.
