*CLOSED* **Social Shopper has issued me a refund. Email them at ** Hot dangity-clams! Held on to my Social Shopper coupon too long I guess, because this place was closed(as of June 30, 2011) It’s a permanent closure as indicated by the«For Lease» sign outside. Too bad, I was looking forward to trying their sushi :(Instead, I now find myself in the position of asking for a refund from SS. I’ll let you know how that goes if anyone else is in the same boat.

This is a great stop if you are on the go. Smaller portions– maybe 4 pieces instead of the 6 if they were cut up. they serve it like the do inAustralia– uncut with a little soy Nice place but the freshness of on and off. I’ve had some good stuff here and some meh-kinda dry. depends on when you go. but it’s affordable and when you are craving quick sushi– go here!

I’ve frequented this place a number of times before the online coupon came out and when it did, I bought 3 because it was such an awesome deal and I love the rolls. I love how they are rolled up like a wrap and not as messy as regular sushi where you either cram it all into your mouth or have it fall apart when you try to bite it in half. My faves are the Salmon with cream cheese and the shrimp with lemon mayo(soo good). The soy sauce things are cute too. I didn’t have a problem redeeming my coupon. I even forgot my phone and didn’t have a print out. I told the lady I didn’t have my phone or paper but I can show her my ID so she can look it up in her list. She was super friendly about it and even remembered me from the last time I came in. Now that’s service. And good food. :)

Glad I got to try this place which focuses on on-the-go hand rolls and is conveniently located along the bus stop of Granville and West Broadway. Rather than have it shaped like a Temaki cone, I do appreciate it simply being un-cut sushi rolls so I practically get the same amount of ingredients from beginning to end. Of the 12 rolls that were available, we tried 9 that looked tempting. The hits for me were the Beef Sukiyaki, Prawn and Avocado w/Lemon Mayo, Wild Salmon w/Cream Cheese, and Unagi w/Avocado. The misses for me were the Wild Salmon w/Avocado, Ebi Mayo w/Cucumber, and Marinated Tofu simply because they were lacking in taste or was a bit dry. There were some rolls that tasted fresh and the other rolls had a dry texture specifically on the rice which meant they were more than a day old at that point. With various Japanese sushi places all over Vancouver that rival Starbucks in number, the price of one roll is expensive at $ 2.90. And even if you do get their special combo pricing of $ 7.81 for 3 rolls, it still is expensive considering there are no sit-down dining expenses like in a typical sushi place. Yet the rolls here are smaller and less tasty. So I think the prices should come down a bit more if they want to truly capture the commuter market who frequent the area due to their stop. Still, they have their work cut out and conveniently bag the rolls, hand soy sauce on a fish shaped container which reminded me of the old days. Just remember to ask for napkins and wasabi before you leave as they don’t readily offer those to you. When I visited, I had an online coupon to use which I showed her via my phone. The lady behind the counter was a bit pissed when she had to go searching for my name on their list. Suddenly the service turned sour and she apologized to the the next customer in line for the wait. Why? Because I bought 9 rolls? So you would rather I buy one rolls and be one my way? Funny. Finally she couldn’t resist after awhile and had to tell me to go print out the coupons the next time I come back. I guess their massive paper print out and showing my purchase via my smart phone wasn’t enough as the other stores using the same online coupon company. It seems Michi Sushi isn’t environmentally friendly in these terms. I’d come back for sure only to claim the last wave of online coupons I purchased. After that, I’m on my way back to my regular sushi joints.

Finally made it in, despite living super close. I think it’s due to their hours — they open after I’m gone in the mornings and close right around when I get back to the neighbourhood. Good for lunch if you work around here, though. I got three rolls during their Happy Hour special(all rolls $ 2 including tax), but the rolls have been sitting out for a bit by that point. I enjoyed them, but they could have been a lot fresher. The shrimp roll was really yummy!

Well, well Mr Michi, You’re winning my fourth star for your 3 for $ 7.50 combo which brings each roll down to $ 2.50 a piece. Bonus points for having a stamp card(now I just have to buy 8 more combos and my 10th one is free) and for such sweet costumer service. I swear, my 3 rolls filled me up all day long(ebi mayo, wild salmon and avocado, unagi and pea shoots), and those little fishie soy sauces are still awesome. Next time, I hope I get to try your fare at an event somewhere — I have heard your catering is fish-tastic!

It pains me to give this sweet little sushi shack a mere three stars as I have been customer since its impetus(working next door helps), and yet I feel I’m still being a little generous. It’s clear that Michi jumped on the sushi-chic, grab-n-go trend at its peak but since then has fallen a little flat. Unfortunately, perhaps this is due to its lack of «bang for yer buck» in tough times. $ 3.50 for three bites(maybe I have a big mouth) just doesn’t cut anymore. Waiting for happy hour to start from 5−6pm is probably your best bet, as all rolls become $ 2 — totally worth it. Although my lunch break is usually a lot earlier than that! The prawn-lemon-mayo and chopped scallop with asparagus are my favs. I gotta give huge props to Michi’s humble beginnings and great concept. The service is always really great and the mom-and-popness really radiates out of its vibrant green walls. But as Angela L. mentioned, it would be nice if some of that green eco-friendliness translated into the Michi’s mandate.

It’s about time that Vancouver had another restaurant serving these burrito-like sushi rolls. Sadly, it’s true that even with a stellar line up of fillings to choose from, the healthy use of 50% brown rice, and the promise of saving yet another pair of single-use chopsticks from the landfill, Michi’s rolls don’t quite deliver and unfortunately, we’re not ashamed to admit that it’s a matter of size. The only upside to these miniature rolls that only my child-sized hands could make look big is in variety. Because they are so small, I was able to try three of them($ 3 each or 3 for $ 8). The uncontested winner of the taste test was the whole prawn avocado with lemon mayo. The prawn was meaty and bursting with freshness while the rich and zippy mayo really complimented the ripe avocado. The spicy scallop wasn’t all that spicy, but was matched well with a crunchy little spear of asparagus. The tuna with green onion was less exciting than the others, but was enjoyable nonetheless. Miso soup($ 1.25) with cubes of tofu was conveniently served in a take out coffee cup complete with stir stick. Ironically, I didn’t take these ready-to-go rolls to go at all, but sat at the entirely see-through plastic bar and stools facing the street and had a great time flipping through the assortment of local weeklies and people watching.

I agree with Crystal, the concept alone is really interesting but in reality it doesn’t entirely deliver. However, for a quick bite on the go, its the healthiest and cheapest thing on the block. Plus, if you go after 5pm all sushi is halfed price so you can really get a good deal. I love that they throw brown rice in the mix and they also have the cutest soy sauce packets ever(i’ll let you firgure it out when you go). Also, I like their options, there are not many veggies options, but they do have interesting seafood options with lots of spicey sauce. One cone was perfect for my after-work snack, but if you have a bigger appetite, one will not suffice.

I’m a fan of this place because, despite what the previous writer stated, the rolls are always fresh and delicious. I’m not a fan of the brown rice mix, but I have never really noticed a big difference. The Spicy Scallop and Ebi Mayo are my faves… but just moments ago I ate a California Roll and it was great. I love the little fish that the soy sauce comes in and they sell 3 for $ 9.00…not a bad deal. Very satisfying for an on the run snack while on South Granville.

This is a non-Japanese owned temaki sushi specialist very close to the major bus connection point and designed to be grab and go for a fast bite. I’ve popped in here twice now and both times left after looking at the pre-made temaki that looked past their prime. They had a fairly standard North American style selection including California, salmon with cream cheese, salmon with avocado, spicy scallop, spicy tuna, etc. But the rolls just didn’t look particularly fresh either time, and I couldn’t bring myself to get one. The rolls also use a mixture of brown and white rice, and even if that is healthier for you I just have never grown fond of brown rice with my sushi. If that is your thing, perhaps this is the place for you. For me I shall not be returning.

Take out sushi at it’s best. The little place is cleverly marketed and invented these brown rice one-hand rolled sushi bites that are very delicious. They’re not cut up like a traditional roll, but look like a salad wrap. The pre-made rolls are very quick and convenient as a snack. I tried a spicy tuna brown rice roll with some type of vegetable and a Diet Coke and it was great. Very tender and it had a sauce that I didn’t recognize, but it wasn’t the cheap variety that other places use. It’s about $ 4 for a roll and I thin for lunch I could eat at least three rolls, depending on how hungry I was so it is expensive for sushi. But it’s good.

If you’re on the go and craving some sushi, Michi Sushi is a great place to stop. They have pre-made sushi rolls(not cut into pieces, but left wrapped up like a wrap), and each roll has plenty of fresh and interesting ingredients. A yummy one to try is the yam with asparagus, spinach and shiitake. This is a really casual spot with only a few seats at a bar, so don’t come here to eat in or to impress a date. It’s more of a trendy fast food joint with a healthy twist. They also do events like business meetings — they just ask for a day’s notice for large orders.

Last summer when I worked in the area I would on occasion stop in for a quick lunch at Michi Sushi. It’s conveniently located across from Chapters bookstore, on the same side as Oscar’s Books, by the bus stop on Broadway. There is a small glass counter with barstools by the window; otherwise, you’ll have to stand around or take your baggie to go. Not really a place for a sushi date. But the place certainly has some conceptual appeal(uncut sushi rolls, served up like a burrito or a wrap) and the product did not disappoint. In fact, I was rather impressed with the quality of the ingredients. For a casual joint, I was expecting standard cheaper sushi-grade ingredients. But everything – from the rice to the wild salmon to the chopped scallops – was quality stuff. Clean, modern, fresh, and tasty. Furthermore, alongside the recurring favourites in the display case, there were always new flavour combinations to try, providing incentive for subsequent returns. I really liked the salmon avocado roll and the beef sukiyaki roll.

This lime-green sushi joint specializes in pretty much one thing: sushi packaged as a roll to take and eat. Instead of multiple pieces you have to sit down and eat with chopsticks, dipped in soy sauce, you can eat one of these on the run. It’s like a really small Japanese burrito. Why hasn’t anyone done this before? I had heard a lot about Michi Sushi before going there, and I really enjoyed my spicy scallop roll with asparagus. The scallop was set on fire with wasabi, the asparagus was crisp, and the brown rice was barely noticeable(My nemesis: brown rice.) I thought it would be bigger, frankly, from the reports I’d read, but the price was reasonable — about $ 3.50. I probably wouldn’t drive across town for one, but would stop in again for a novel lil’ sushi roll if I’m in the vicinity.
