La Petite Cuillère

I was excited to try this place after seeing the high rating. I thought it would be a lovely change from a regular coffee shop my friend and I usually opt for, high tea with a number of styles so you could enjoy the experience without spending exorbitant amounts.
To be fair the tea itself was very good, and so was the single bite mini scone. I know the point is to have delicate little bites, but this was taking that sentiment to the extreme.
I’ve had some really good high teas in my time, but this certainly wasn’t one of them. We walked into what I’d describe as grandma’s house, obviously going for a particular style, I was hoping for a more chic setting, old school sure, but not quite this. It didn’t help that we were the only ones there and the place was silent. It did fill up a while later though.
In a place like Vancouver where I can easily name 5 – 10 really good bakeries with absolutely delicious cakes, pies, donuts and more, the offerings here fell flat. The ‘sandwich’ was a mini crostini style disk with 2 slices of cheese and a thin slice of cucumber, I can make something much better at home. There was a tuna tart, again nothing special. The tiny cheesecake was tasty, but ever so small and a bite of choc-​peanut butter brownie.
It doesn’t look like they make any of sweets on site. Perhaps a tea and cupcake or tea and scone set would have been a better option here. I’m in no rush to go back, not with so many other amazing choices around town. If you must have a high tea here, at least the China it’s served on is lovely, and I can’t fault the tea.

The food and tea was very good. The prices were reasonable and the service was average. They tried to make the place look like a French tea house. I would definitely go back.

My friend and I have frequented many places across the city for afternoon tea, and this one is by far the best.
From the interesting varieties of scones to the ever changing mini savouries, La Petite Cuillere is miles ahead of any other Tea Room in Vancouver.
Not only do they have a great selection of tea, but the owner is knowledgeable, engaging and extremely efficient. Much of the time it is just her and her mother working, and regardless of how busy it is you still get excellent and attentive service.
The pricing is also a draw, LA Petite Cuillere is much more down to earth with their pricing ($ 25 each for afternoon tea). Many other places will charge you $ 35+ for an inferior experience.
Would highly recommend this place to anyone!

This place is soooooo adorable! I love how Classic the décor is, beats having to drive all the way to Kerrisdale to get the same ambiance
The staff were wonderful as very accommodating, we had 2 toddlers with us and they were great. Even though we made a huge crumb mess on the floor.
Unfortunately they only have 1 old school high chair! There isn’t a lap buckle so you need to really watch your squirmy little one!

The bottom tier of sandwiches were delicious. Comes with 3 mini sandwiches which is pretty decent
Second tier with the scones were ok, loved that there was 2 scones. Lol. Banana loaf was a bit stale.
Unfortunately I wasn’t happy with the Devonshire cream… It was stiff like whipped butter :(. This is usually my favourite part of the afternoon tea… And I usually ask for seconds… Not this time…
Top tier with the desserts were awesome! Macaron was perfection! The raspberry cake was tastey! And the Oreo brownie. To die for!
Over all experience was wonderful, I would return as the pricing was also decent at $ 25 per person for afternoon tea!

This tea room made for a good spot for a belated Mother’s Day afternoon tea. Service was with a smile. No, really. A smile the whole time. The coconut Rooibos chai tea was not as flavorful as I had hoped. I would choose the darling Darjeeling next time. It was a bolder tea with a confident strawberry note. I had a sip of my companion’s pot.

Quaint little place with a few too many pieces of teaware and dolls… Nice and quiet for conversations though — the soundtrack from Amelie was playing in the background. The 3 of us got the brunch, the high tea, and the salmon panini. My high tea was pretty decent, 6 pieces was just right for what I was feeling. My friend’s brunch was somewhat disappointing, but the salmon panini looked good!

They have Chinese New Year Macaroons. They are delicious. Very fancy looking and very festive. I know Vancity Buzz featured their macaroons on their website. Pretty cool and fresh and tasty macaroons.

The atmosphere is the only star given. Service is so so on a raining day. The food lost all three stars. Especially the scone just tasted store brought and flour like. Not at all traditional scones should be. Disappointed!!! Then moving on to a chocolate mint cake. Excuse me? Yes that’s right a chocolate mint cake in hight tea! Chocolate cake is tasteless and doughy in texture. The pastries are all turned downs and if you are looking for an authentic high tea experience, the west Vancouver has many more authentic options to choose from.

Although my rating is based on just the one experience I had getting a tea and cupcake to go, I thought it was still worth sharing. I really like the concept and I was drawn in purely based on this place looking quite unique and I had never noticed it before. It is hard to rate tea when it is in a to go cup so I wont focus on that. I bought a red velvet cupcake with my tea which apparently is a combo for something like $ 7 which is pretty outrageous but I thought it was worth a try. I was hugely disappointed in the cupcake because I was expecting it to be reflective of the price. It was really dense and had little flavour. I’m curious if the other treats and sandwiches are the same blandness but masked by the decorative display and unique ambiance experience… I would give this place a try one day in person but my lasting impression at the moment is the food isn’t spectacular, but the high tea experience sure looks like it is. However the service was super friendly and seemed genuine.

Very few times in life you have the opportunity to enjoy a cup of tea as it should. This lovely place is wonderful. you must take your time to enjoy your tea and the sweets they have available.

Interior looks amazing. I came on an incredibly rainy and windy day (classic Vancouver) but the inside felt like a completely different world.
The two staff members were both very friendly and knowledgeable.
I had the afternoon tea set for $ 25, and selected the Creamy Earl Grey. Some other reviews may mention the additional $ 1.25 charged for selecting from the «Finest» tea selection, but that is only an additional charge if you want certain teas from that menu. I’m a big fan of earl grey, which was on the regular menu, so I didn’t have the additional charge.
Food wasn’t too special, but the price is definitely fair for what you get. This is probably one of the, if not THE cheapest place to get afternoon tea. Teapot was refilled often, although we did have to call them over to ask them for more hot water rather than them coming over to check on us.

This amazing tea house will remind you of pure vintage from the late 1800. Great selection of teas and the high tea is fresh and delicious. You can sit back and relax in the comfy chairs and spend hours chatting away… A must try for everyone.

Wow! Love this place. The tea was brilliant for starters. Home blended by the lovely family that owns and runs this little treasure of a tea room. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the Afternoon Tea. Everything was fresh and home made. It’s totally worth the price. La Petite Cuillere is a island of sanity in a busy world.

I came here for a bridal shower one weekend. It was a larger party so we took up the bulk of the tables. The restaurant is small with a long narrow layout, so that meant we took up probably 75% of the available dining space. Atmosphere was very cutesy, with vintage plates and tea sets everywhere. Very Alice in Wonderland. the décor very suitable for a tea party. We didn’t have a choice in the menu but by default we were given the «Afternoon Tea» which is the most expensive option at $ 25, PLUS an additional $ 1.25 for your choice of tea from their «premium loose leaf tea selection». Why the $ 25 price doesn’t already include tea perplexes me, but at least you get a full pot with water refills. They have a nice selection of loose leaf teas, but I’m boring and stuck with my go-​to classic English Breakfast. It was a hot day that afternoon so some of the girls ordered iced tea drinks, which I regretted not getting, but they did not get refills. The Afternoon Tea includes their full service of 3 sweets, 3 finger sandwiches, 2 mini scones, a mini loaf, tea biscuit, fruit preserves, and Devonshire cream served on a 3 tier stand. Every guest got the same items with the exception of a different flavored macaron. One of the bridal shower guests was able to select gluten free options which was nice.
While I’ve had high tea in years past, I’ve never been blown away by the experience, and La Petite Cuillere was no exception. In fact, I’d probably even say I’ve had better high tea elsewhere. I’ll be the first to admit I don’t get excited about high tea as I don’t care for half the things on the tiers (the sweets in particular) and I find it to be very overpriced for what you get. In fact, the only thing I really enjoy are the savory items like the sandwiches, and even then you don’t get that much. The food here was okay. The general consensus at the table was that the savoury items were better. We enjoyed the mini croissant sandwich with turkey and mustard. The cakes were better than the scones and cookies which we found to be a bit dry, and some girls left it on their plate.
The party was scheduled from 3:30 to 6:00pm, but things ran a bit behind with the bride opening gifts. Even though there was maybe only one or two small other groups having high tea, the staff apparently told the bridesmaids (organizers) that the party had to be packed up by 6:00, and in the end we were rushing to settle the bill and get out. Although we were nearing the end of the party, I personally don’t see why there was such a rush. The restaurant closed at 7pm, there were empty tables and nobody waiting at the door to be seated, and I doubt there was another party arriving. Service was fairly attentive, but given that our party took up most of their time (and space) for nearly three hours, I would expect that to be the case. For anyone who loves high tea, I would recommend La Petite Cuillere for the experience. In terms of food, they’re probably better off going elsewhere. Total cost was $ 30.75 after taxes and gratuity. Personally, I’d rather host my own tea party and make my own finger foods. My rating leans toward a 2 because I’ve simply had better high tea and I’m not a fan, but I’m feeling generous so I’ll give it a 3 for the overall experience.

I would give this place a 5 star just for the atmosphere, décor and services but the food is where they lost that 1 star in my perspective.
I was here with a group of friends on a monday during lunch time and we all ordered their afternoon tea because it had a bigger portion (we were with guys who can eat). We each had our own stack of goodies. This was a 3 tier kind of presentation where each tier had 3 items. When they brought it to us it felt very little. But once we started to eat the scones and loaves that’s when I felt a bit full because it was so filling. Overall, the food itself didn’t wow me at all. I felt like I could of gotten it anywhere else. This was for 25.00 and I think it was an extra 1.25 for a pot of tea. Good thing is that we can refill our tea pot with more water.
Now the service was great. The girl that was working there tried hard to give us our space and yet still came and checked up on us even though behind the counter it was really noisy due to the machines being on. I like how she give us the vibe she enjoys her job of engaging with others.
I love how the place is design. Even though it’s a corner shop, they have a lot of stuff for décor. You have lots of different kinds of European cups, plants, and orchids for each table. The chair and tables were very comfortable because it has a really nice European style.
Overall, I would suggest others to try it out. The food is meh but the service and atmosphere does make up for it.

A friend recommended tea at the Empress hotel while I was in Vancouver. I’m a cheapskate, and this place has nice options for lower cost teas: the «high tea» option is only $ 15.50
I came in on a weekday afternoon without a reservation and there was plenty of seating. They were also able to make me a vegetarian tea without any notice. Hurrah!
The sandwiches were a bit uninteresting, but I was happy to get any. The cheesecake and rose cake were both lovely and tasty. I had a pot of Earl Grey Cream (about three small cups) which was surprisingly good. The scone was wonderful. Everything was very small (this is a snack, not a meal), but I enjoyed it.
The waitress kept calling me «my dear.» I think it was supposed to be a part of the British grandmother experience, but it felt very strange coming from a woman half my age…

Exceptional staff who were friendly and went above and beyond for high tea. I went with a group of girls late 2014. At first when the food came out, I was unsure if I would be full at the end, however I was pleasantly surprised as it was more than enough and felt full afterwards. The staff kept coming around to check on our tea pots which was great even though the place was full. The ambience is unique and beautiful at the same time. I want another reason to visit again soon!

My mother and I visited La Petite Cuillere as a part of her birthday celebrations. We had a lovely time! We each ordered the high tea.
The high tea included a pot of premium tea (about two cups of tea per pot), two mini savory items, two mini sweet items, a mini cranberry scone, devonshire cream and fruit preserves. Our two savory items were a tuna salad tart and a cucumber and sharp cheddar sandwich. Our two sweet items were Easter cake and chocolate cheesecake. One of the teas we ordered was lychee flavored, I cannot remember the flavor of the other one. The teas and the food were both alright. The scone was an exception, it was fantastic. Everything was more mini than we would have liked but filling nonetheless. English bone china was used. The cost was 14.25 per person which is fair for what was received. The environment was beautiful.
Room for improvement:
This place is a little small– We had to have our high tea on a shared table.
The service was alright, nothing to write home about.
I would have preferred being able to choose two savory and two sweet items from a menu. I did not like that the items were standardized because that meant both of us got the same items.

I love coming here and bringing my friends. This family-​owned establishment has friendly staff, a delicious menu that is always surprising, and a cozy + elegant atmosphere. I drive down here whenever I want a relaxing afternoon tea with a cup of my fan-​favourite «darling darjeeling».

Excellent service, great prices and cute décor. They have individual tea pots and tiered trays for each member of your party. I thought this was super nice as even pricy places like urban tea merchant don’t have individual trays. The tea selection is great. The actual treats and sandwiches are average at best, but the experience is well worth it!

It was my first time visiting this place today. I love that there is free parking nearby! I came in with my girlfriends and we sat down as a group of five in a corner by the window. We had booked for a Sunday afternoon and when I arrived the place was busy but not packed.
The décor is quaint. I felt like I was sitting down to have tea with Alice in Wonderland’s Mad Hatter. It doesn’t feel too stuffy or pretentious like some tea places I’ve been to in the past. There was enough room between tables so that my friends and I were able to enjoy our conversation without bumping into the chairs of other patrons. I also liked the hooks on the walls for our big winter coats.
I ordered the mango green tea and enjoyed the mini high tea platter. The tea was fairly light even though I had it steeping the whole time but that’s how I prefer my tea anyway. The mini high tea platter came with a mini red velvet cupcake, lemon bar, scone and jam, a wrap and a cucumber sandwich. I wasn’t blown away with any of the food but I did really enjoy the scone and the cupcake was very moist.
My friends and I stayed for a little less than two hours and we were never rushed. The two staff members who helped us were friendly and polite. Our server was especially peppy and had a big smile every time we spoke with him.
Overall, I enjoyed my experience here. I definitely plan on coming back and would love to try the full high tea menu next time.

As an English woman in Canada sometimes I crave dainty, doily filled tea dates. I’d been dying to try this place for ages and the stars finally aligned; I stopped in for a speedy hangout and found myself instantly calmed, amused, and on my best behaviour! It’s the epitome of the fanciest of tea rooms in England, all large, cosy seating and adorably thoughtful bits and pieces strewn around everywhere.
I grabbed a pot of coconut rooibos chai and snuggled into my cosy chair to wait for my friend to arrive. I had a book, delicious tea, and a wonderfully calm, classy atmosphere — delightful! Once my friend arrived we were treated to a couple of their amazingly soft and flavourful scones — I wish I’d come with an empty stomach so I could have had one of everything! These were not your regular, chewy, dry, starchy scones — oh no! — these were perfectly fresh, warm, and rich. I still could have eaten 100 of them.
I’ll have to come back for brunch soon — I know I won’t be able to stay away long!

I recommended this place for my girlfriends wedding shower. With 17 ladies is was pretty cozy but still accommodated us and very grateful. 10 – 15 would have been a perfect number. Highly recommend this place for high tea with friends or a small gathering, and make reservation!
Im always afraid to recommend something to a big group, but this was outstanding I cant even say one bad thing. All the ladies including the bride was impressed. Yay!
We made a reservation for 3pm, we had a large table which fit about 12 and a smaller table that connected to the bigger table the fit the rest, the set up was great no one felt left out just felt like a big table. We all got to choose our own tea, I always get the Earl grey cream so yummy! Pinkys Up! I love all the great china, feels like your having tea a grandmas place!
We also all got our own three tier stand that included three miniature sweets, three finger sandwiches, two miniature scones, mini loaf, tea biscuit, fruit jam and devonshire cream.
Everything was delish. From the scone to the French macarons, and warm sandwich!
The service was 5 stars!!! Very accommodating to allergies we had 3 gluten free. The servers we always checking if we were doing ok, and explained all of the treats we were enjoying.
This will not be my last visit, love love love this place!

During a tea-​tasting session as part of a mini Unilocal Elite event we had the privilege of sampling a portfolio of assiduously blended tea and thoughtful pastries. The tea extraordinaire Huey poured Mango Green Tea, Earl Grey Cream, and Coconut Rooibos Chai and my favorite among them was the Coconut Rooibos Chai because I can’t think of anywhere else that has this special blend that does not have a overpowering/​off-​balance taste.
It was a also treat to sample the macaroon, and while Thierry set the bar very high I was pleased at the quality and the innovative flavor profile and presentation here. The macaroon profiles also mirror the tea selection: Coconut Rooibos, Mango Green Tea, Darlin Darjeeling, and Earl Gray Cream. The size, the oomph on bite, the sweetness of the cream everything coming together is quite beautiful.
Such a cute little gem in the Main Street area for a lovely afternoon tea experience.

I love a place that is more then meets the eye, and La Petite definitely falls squarely into that category.
It’s a lovely, ladylike looking room; a haven for the posh and polite. From the beautiful collection of china tea cups, in the beautiful collection of vintage hutches, to the hand-​made aprons and fresh flowers — this LOOKS like the kind of place where one dons the little white gloves and gets their dapper on. Which it definitely is, if that’s what you seek.
But beneath its fancy pants exterior lies a laid back, totally funky cast and crew that quickly turned this into one of my favourite spots in the city.
10 Nerdy Awesome Ninja Facts:
1. They are tea historian nerds (meant in the most flattering sense). The «hodge podge» of artifacts that adorn this little place are actually sneakily & chronologically arranged to create a timeline of the history of tea.
2. It’s family owned. And a person in that family constructs all the CRAZY detailed ships in bottles that are scattered about. Nerd points x2.
3. Their macarons are tea infused. And f&$king delicious.
4. If you ask super nicely, they will mix you a lavender rooibos, which is one of the best sleep aids this little insomniac has found. The tea here is totally badass in and of itself, but this particular one is full like a black tea (minus the caffeine) but calming and aromatic from the lavender.
5. They understand the importance of giant super comfy seating.
6. I discovered «water colour tattoos» via a conversation had over a super dainty cup of tea.
7. One of the owners, Huey, is much like the spot itself. She’s always in the cutest of dresses but check out her fabulously unexpected tattoos while you get into the sauciest of conversations. I know this woman from a previous job and she’s a force to be reckoned with, for sure.
8. Sometimes they make you soup.
9. Their savoury scones are crave worthy.
10. They give back to the community. Often. And do so quietly and consistently.
With the free wifi, big bright windows and always an interesting conversation to be had, this place fast became a favourite.
