Kokopelli has been a long time favourite for my family. I frequent with my kids, buy their take-home meals and baked goods. The quality of the food is excellent and I’ve always loved the kid-friendly environment: perfect for when I have my little ones are in tow. So Kokopelli was my go-to when I needed some baked goods for a school-sponsored event. I placed a special order 4 days in advance, requesting 4 dozen MINI pastries, citing the EXACT products and pricing as advertised on their website. I was very specific and verified several times as the first employees I spoke with didn’t seem to know the products very well. That should have been the red flag. But I proceeded any way. On the day of the event, I sent my husband to pick up the order. When he arrives home, I discover that half of the order consists of full-sized baked goods, not the mini’s I had requested. The price was thus double. I was obviously disappointed as I wanted mini treats for the kids, but quickly cut the full-size in half, rushed off to the event, and figured I’d resolve the price differential later. I went back to Kokopelli later that morning and the owner/baker would NOT take ownership for the mistake and would NOT refund the difference in price. After 30 mins of arguing he finally agreed to reimburse me for half of the differential. Won’t be going back. Amazing an owner advertising«family oriented, local business» would be willing to save $ 20 rather than rectify a mistake and keep a longtime customer.

Great kids place ~ parents can socialize and enjoy healthy food, while kiddies play in designated kids play zone. Delicious homemade fresh food, including kids favourites like Mac & Cheese, banana bread or grilled cheese. Fancy cookies and scones also available. Very kid friendly, so if you’re looking for some quiet adult only time, this may not be the café for you.

Nice little café in Dunbar. Really good granola and outstanding hot chocolate. Friendly atmosphere too. Haven’t tried the sandwiches but will be sure to sometime.

I used to drive out of my way for sandwiches and chai here, and I love the family appeal. Went there today and was very disappointed. Paid a lot for lunch and my chicken sandwich tasted stale with the faint taste of aging banana(not sure if stored with bananas or what). Anyway, I had tuscan chicken and not one thing tasted like tuscan chicken. Very disappointing. The chai wasn’t as good as it used to be either. Kinda watery. It’s on the pricey side for what you get. I don’t think I’ll be back. I hope they go back to their old, high standards, but they have slipped.

Great neighbourhood café for parents and little ones to hang out. They have a play area at the back. It keeps the kids busy while adults talk. It is not a quiet café for reading. Slightly pricey due to fine and fresh ingredient.

Great little café in Dunbar! What a great idea! It’s not easy to find places good to take kids along! We had a raspberry n dark chocolate muffin, a mocha, and a fresh fruit smoothies! Everything tasted great! Especially the smoothies!!! YUMMY! The play area for kids was wonderful too! A great place to take kids and let them socialize! The people working there are very use to working around the children playing there!

Service can be a bit slow, esp. in the morning before 8 am, but they definitely have the best baked goods around. The coffee is great and certainly comparable to Starbucks, if not far fresher. They have a stamp card after just 9 coffees, too, and they’ll even give you a grande if you ask sweetly. And with coffee specials in the aft,(a $ 2 latte I believe?) just how can you go wrong? I mean, how many places still offer both of these deals nowadays, yet still serve great coffee, too? Yes, it’s awesome for Moms and kids, but if you don’t have any kids, you will still receive outstanding service. The little outside patio is a great alternative to the inside, too! So the next time you’re in Dunbar, be sure to check them out as an alternative – and don’t forget to buy at least one of their awesome baked goods – especially the brownies and lemon loaf!

Yes, this place has a lot of little children running around and their mothers, but I don’t mind. They’re kinda cute. And they don’t scream, so it’s all good. This is a super nice café and they have free wifi! The bonus? They have maple spice syrup for lattes!!! Yummmm! The only little hiccup was that when I ordered my maple latte, the girl didn’t know how to ring it up, even though she rang up the previous woman’s soy latte just fine. She asked another woman and she didn’t know either… and I’m like, «Umm it’s just a latte plus the maple spice syrup you have back there.» Her: «oh!» Hmm… didn’t think it would be too complicated. Anyway, I would still come back. I think those girls were new. I dig the free wifi. Plus, it seems that in the afternoon all 12 oz lattes are $ 2 plus flavour shot costs. And they have great quality espresso!

Absolutely the best café atmosphere — even if you don’t have kids in my opinion. — Food is fresh and made on site with real ingredients. Yummy! — Just started selling it, but the iced lemonade is great summer drink. — Coffee is solid, and according to my wife, Anita makes an excellent latte. — Kids can’t get enough of their smoothies. And if you don’t like kids, what did you expect! Stop your complaining and go down the street to Starbucks.

When I was fundraising across the street at Stong’s grocery store one weekend last year, my friend and I were slowly overcome with a hunger that can come only from selling raffle tickets all day. She spotted this little gem of a café across the road and soon returned with the cheesiest looking macaroni I’ve ever seen. I crossed the street next and also got a huge portion of mac-and-cheese(for a reasonable $ 7 or so). I ate and I ate and I still had leftovers. Today I returned to Kokopelli and was surprised to find it quiet inside. But within 30 minutes the moms and their little ones began to arrive and fill up the large play area at the back of the store. Kokopelli caters to the parents-with-kids crowd and offers nice sitting areas to complement a healthy menu of snacks and meals. Definitely worth a visit – even without kids.

Though I’m not a mom myself(except to my adorable cockapoo Wally), this review of Kokopelli Café on Dunbar Street(sandwiched in between K+K Pet Foods and the Cheshire Cheese Inn) is going to sound quite motherly. The reason? Well, I recently had the chance to make my first visit to the café since it opened a couple of years back along with my new-mom friend, who was scheduled to meet her new moms group there. What I found out about Kokopelli was this: It was started by two Dunbar moms who felt the neighbourhood needed a great meeting place with excellent coffee where parents could unwind after dropping the kids off at school or the community centre. These two smart moms also felt those same parents might like to buy a reheatable casserole dinner. Well, turns out they were right about all that! Kokopelli is a great meeting place, for new, old, and non moms and dads alike. It has a great little enclosed play space for kids. And the carrot cake is to die for!
