Love this place. I’m a regular here and I think it may be my favourite restaurant in Vancouver. The food is fantastic but the main thing the sets it apart is the atmosphere. This is one of the rare places that doesn’t thump loud music in the background or cram a lot of people into a tiny space. You can sip a glass of wine and enjoy the company of others without having to scream over the background noise.

We love French bistros and for a number of reasons hadn’t been to Jules Bistro for quite some time. We had a date night dinner there recently and were reminded what a great place it is. Very casual place although not really in a style of a Parisienne bistro, but close. Lots of great menu choices. Very warm greeting and the service overall was excellent. We really enjoyed our duck leg confit, steak frites and charcuterie. Very nice dinner and good place for conversations. Prices are decent.

Atmosphere: 5⁄5 I loved the décor. The service was relaxed but attentive. The seats were cosy and intimate — great place to have a conversation. Food: 4.5÷5 I got the Cassoulet and my Bf got the waffle. They were both excellent. The waffle was not too sweet — all the sweetness came from the fresh cooked grapes. The beans in the cassoulet were simple but flavourful and the egg was perfectly poached. I hear it’s not authentic but the food is perfectly good regardless. I wouldn’t wait an hour in line to get a seat here but I would definitely go back.

Our first time at Jules bistro and it was amazing. It was truly a trip to France. I had the moules frites and they were deelish. Service was top notch. I cannot wait to go back!!! Would be so romantic for a first date

One of my favorite places to dine. My fiancée and I have been here twice and both times were 10⁄10. The Chicken Liver Mousse is to die for and the Duck Confit is superb. Definitely check it out!

I really wanted to like this restaurant. Its elegant room makes you feel welcome and cozy and the waiting staff is superb. The price is also very reasonable. We had the salmon carpaccio, fresh mussels as well as their ribeye. The quality of the food were all decent and for once our steak was done just right. However, nothing stands out. Perhaps its due to the wide variety of food in Vancouver and the fusion movement where each restaurant has their own signature style/dish that makes Jules French Bistro taste only mediocre. Food: 3⁄5 Ambience: 4⁄5 Service: 4⁄5 Overall: 3.75÷5

What a top notch dining experience! I adore French food, and Jules Bistro does it right. The moment you walk in, you are immersed in an elegant, almost vintage room. The space is classy, featuring crystal pieces and interesting art, but NOTSNOBBY or pretentious. How refreshing for a French bistro! There are no white table cloths, but the level of service and attention to detail is there. Now to the best part: the food! I am a huge carnivore, so naturally had to try their tenderloin steak. It was served in a red wine reduction, talk about flavour mania. The sauce was rich, and each bite was an experience. They cooked my steak to a perfect rare, which is quite a feat(I used to work at a steakhouse). This was served with delectably creamy scalloped potatoes. Next, we shared the duck confit, taking our server’s advice. I am a huge fan of duck confit, and can say that this was hands-down the best duck confit I have tried. The meat was tender, yet perfect crispy on the outside. It was well-seasoned, but may be a bit salty by most tastes. It was served on a bed of arugula, a fine choice to balance out the heaviness of the meat. We paired our entrees with an Okanagan pinot noir, which paired well with the duck. We were absolutely stuffed, but had to try desert. A total chocoholic, I ordered the melted chocolate cake which was every bit as rich and ooey-gooey as you would hope. Next time, I want to try one of their cocktails. I noticed out of the corner of my eye that the bartender was crafting some interesting concoctions… We will be back!(After hitting the gym for a few weeks haha)

I’m trying to dish out 5 stars less often, but Jules earned it in every aspect of our experience! Atmosphere was fantastic, exposed brick and tasteful décor. It felt high end without being pretentious or snobby. Food was UNREAL! Had a rare tenderloin, and the duck confit. Perfectly executed soul food. We probably ordered two of the saltiest items on the menu, but it was a voyage on the seven seas of flavour that I’ll never forget. A highlight for me was the ratatouille that came with the tenderloin. But what impressed me most was how FAST the service was. We ordered the food, and literally within 5 minutes it was on our table. They clearly were prepared for a busy night, but this was next level. Jules Bistro, you nailed it and completely exceeded my expectations. For a date night, this is as good as it gets in my books. I will 100% be back again and again and again.

Tl;dr: Great little French restaurant with one of my fav steaks in Vancouver. Great spot for a date. I like Jules a lot. The food is nice and service has always been professional and knowledgeable. This is a great place for a romantic date! The lights are dim, the noise is buzzing but not loud. I especially like the quaintness of the small space with its eclectic décor. Onto the food! I ordered the 8oz ribeye steak with mushroom sauce, with a side of half fries and half salad($ 26). The steak was perfectly cooked to medium rare and I loved the suggestion of getting half and half of my sides. Portion was good, I was quite full and content by the end of it. The mushroom sauce was also quite tasty. My only critique would be the overall saltiness to the plate. I did find it a bit heavy-handed with the salt, even in the salad. My boyfriend ordered the roasted lamb rack special of the night. I’m not a huge fan of lamb, but according to him it was tres delicious. :) We paired it with a nice bottle of cab sav that the server suggested(I wanted something dry and full-bodied). His wine recommendation was spot-on!

Jules is everything a Gastown establishment should be: unpretentious and affordable enough not to have to save for a special occasion, but refined and distinct enough to be worthy of one. The room is beautiful space that strikes the perfect balance between cozy intimacy and privacy. If you’re looking to have an audible conversation at dinner, this is a good pick. We stuck to wine and entrees. My duck confit was enjoyable, though chewier than it should have been. Similarly, my girlfriend’s salmon was enjoyable, but she noted the other elements of the dish were dominated by garlic. The owner was always interacting with guests and staff — it felt like he took serious personal pride in making sure we had a great experience. We’d definitely go back again, but order different items.

Jules French Bistro opened at Gastown for a while. I saw a lot of positive reviews but never get an intention to try it out. I took my mom and aunt to there for brunch on beautiful sunny Sunday. We went there at 12ish, they only had 1 table customer. When I walked in, I realized the floor quite sticky and smelled mouldy even though the windows wide opened. We got seated and ordered few dishes to try. salmon carpaccio with 2 eggs — It looked great and perfectly presented but smoked salmon a bit salty. Quiche — it fresh baked and yummy Duck Condors — it’s good and filled me up. The service was friendly and attentive. However, I didn’t enjoy the mouldy smell dining room.

I love Jules– cute little romantic place to relax and have amazing food. Me and my girlfriend dropped by today and had a wonderful time. Our server was a tall young man who was very pleasant and he was occasionally accompanied by another staff with white hair(he is always there when I go and find him wonderful every single time) I had the 8oz streak with frites and my friend had the black cod. We also has a charcuterie platter to start. The pâté was the star of the plate with fine seasoning and the cornichons had the right touch of acidity. The streak was melt in your mouth good with the amazing frites– crunchy outside and soft inside! Yum. I didn’t taste the cod but my friend devoured it! Will certainly go back. However if the managers of Jules check this I would like to share something entirely unrelated to food and the service we received. It broke my heart today! Two gentleman walked in and sat beside us to have dinner– one of them was an elderly fellow while the younger gentleman looked as though he may have had some developmental issues. As he was sitting I noticed one of the other servers with a French accent making a face of disgust to our server — the look of «I don’t want to serve him». From then on I could tell that him with another lady server was observing this table in a very demeaning manner. It was disappointing as their looks and attitude kept changing when they moved to serve others. I am sad to see this! Being compassionate does not make you less classy. Please be human to all other humans, not just the shiny ones! Good food often involve a big heart– don’t hesitate to show it off

Wow. «It is now what one says that people remember, it is how they make you feel.» This is a quote I read somewhere and this restaurant epitomizes that quote to a T. I think I tried like three applies, two mains and some dessert; albeit a couple years ago now so I cannot remember exactly what, but it was such a romantic soft place. It’s popular so try to arrange reservations if possible. ! I will definitely come here again to re-live the magic.

Solid 3.75 stars, and considering the area of upcoming Gastown, a potential for a 4 in my books if it wasn’t for my favourites at French Table & Le Crocodile, the perennial winners. As to be expected, rustic décor, especially the men’s washroom(obviously), not as French as one would expect, but I digress. Ordered their lunch special of a bowtie pasta with chicken, in a basil cream sauce. Good taste, though the chicken wasn’t anything special in terms of seasoning. Sauce-wise, surprisingly light and not heavy for French cuisine. They sure could use a better, softer bread. Service as to be expected, curt but efficient lol. I’d consider coming back to try the rest of their menu. Too bad their patio’s all locked up away, sure this is an action spot in the hotter days of summer. Amex approved, yay. It’s date worthy, but wouldn’t classify as romantic.

Very attentive service. Great good. Great ambiance. Separating bill was a night mare but overall experience is up top. Had duck breast which literally melted on my tongue. Cheese plate was very nice. Full flavored real deal. Don’t miss out. I am coming back for more:))

Service — AWESOME! Food — FABULOUS! I cannot complain about anything. The service from the time I entered the restaurant until I left was how customer service should be everywhere! Polite, friendly, engaging… they have it all. Had the ribeye steak, cooked to perfection. A slight crisp on the outside but a beautiful medium inside. The herb butter went so well with it all I can still taste it. A must try! Sorry about the picture I was half way through my meal before I remembered to take the picture.

We came in a large group and we were very disappointed with the service. First of all, our food took a very long time to come, and there were no updates nor apologizes throughout the meal. We were just left sitting there, wondering where our food was. Half of our party, seated at the table beside us, received their food much earlier than we did. Our food actually came after they completely finished their meal, making it extremely awkward for half of us. The lunch ended up being way too long since it was split up so strangely and we stayed at the restaurant for nearly 2 hours! Anyways, the food was fairly good but the service was just agonizingly slow. Our waitress was quite indifferent about her job and she constantly ignored us. I’m not sure if she was just oblivious to her surroundings, but my colleague tried to get her attention several times and she would just walk right past him, ignoring his very existence. Perhaps she was having a bad day? Okay back to the food. The duck confit was fairly good and I enjoyed the fresh bed of greens underneath with the fingerling potatoes but honestly, it wasn’t anything special. The fries were done pretty well and we enjoyed how they provided both mayonnaise and ketchup. The majority of the table ordered their«famous» rib-eye steak and the opinions were: o-kay, average, good, and mmmm. The bistro was surprisingly full for a Tuesday, considering their pricey menu(I think including appies/desserts we spent approximately $ 40 a person). The dessert(melting chocolate cake) was quite good though!

Je suis ici pour le lunch. Beau bistrot, serveurs parlent français, c’est le bonheur. j’aime l’ambiance bistrot et le décor. La bouffe est pas mauvaise, mais rien pour me jeter par terre.
