After getting food poisoning I reported this place to the health board and then later found out that they have failed their government food safety visits — tho somehow remained open. Reading the details on the health and safety’s website made me feel even more ill. I can’t even drive by this place without thinking that it should be shut down.

My star is for the horrible customer service here. If you like being served by a robot server with zero personality, a faceless expression, and a monotone voice, this is the place. The female server at the front was indifferent to us and other customers. She saw us but continued doing her own thing, then lazily sauntered to take our orders. No ‘hello’ or a smile, she just stands and stares at you. She takes your order, then walks off. Clearly rude. An elderly woman put in her order and they seem to exchange a longer discussion. After the woman left, the server yells to the male chef, «An old lady complained.» Then she started laughing out loud about it. That was so rude of her! I’ll upload a photo of the rude robotic server. Avoid this place unless you’re just here to grab and go for a quick bite. Even then, the reviews below mine don’t look promising for the food. My beef yakisoba was half piping hot, but half of the noodles and beef were fridge cold. I didn’t finish it because I was worried about food poisoning. I read about another Unilocaler getting sick from here after I had my noodles. Yikes, should have Unilocaled this place first before heading here. Only came here because I had a medical appointment nearby. Maybe I’ll come back to this place if I’m feeling like I want to deal with an emotionless humanoid.

Express is the key. Adequate if you want to just grab and go. If you expect good service and exceptional food, there are numerous other sushi places one can find in Vancouver. Walked in purely out of convenience – waiting for family at a medical appointment in building next door. One other patron seated. Headed to counter to greet server. Two staff standing there, speaking among themselves to decide who will serve me. One says«you go», the other says, «you go». Um, I’m ten feet away, you know. One finally approaches the counter and, I’m not exaggerating, stares at me blankly. Four«mississippi’s» must have passed. No verbal or facial expression of greeting or acknowledgement. Confused, I smile, and wait for a «hello» or «how can I help you?» or at the very least, «what the hell do you want?» but, nothing. Unfamiliar with this type of human interaction, I had to make an assumption to order. I then sat down and waited for my tempura udon to be made. The person taking my order started to munch on her sandwich that may have been purchased from somewhere down the street. This was taking place while they were prepping the«to-go» roll and sushi items for the anticipated lunch crowd. Yum. Had it not been for time constraints and the fact I paid for the udon already, I would have left. My udon was served and then the sandwich-eating server and another server sat at the table behind me to continue eating, accidentally bumping my seat as they went past. Maybe they were Asimo Robots not realizing what the expectations of what approporiate or professional interaction are. Perhaps my expectations were askew. The udon was fine; the tempura not burnt but overcooked; brown at the ends. After my experience, I wished I had just grabbed a pre-made sushi pack and be done with it. But, then again, did I want to risk finding some sandwich crud in my California roll?

Decent premade rolls if you’re in a hurry. The sashimi is pretty tasteless, but I should have known better– you’re not going to get quality wild salmon for $ 4. I do like the katsu curry rice bowls, though. Lots of delicious sauce with potatoes and carrots, and a perfectly fried katsu cutlet underneath. Good value for a quick lunch.

I tried many times, found this place consistence in quantity and quality. My first order was bit oily and salty for the pork chop bento box, which may be solved by asking what you wanted at time of ordering. Second time, I just asked them no teriyaki sauce on my salmon rice; problem solved. Spicy salmon rolls was fine, this place is more for cooked food dine-in /take out.

Looking for a cheap lunch close to work, I tried their curry katsu don. While good sized, the meal consisted mostly of curry sauce covered rice. The pork cutlet, which was also quite dry, was barely there. With so many other options around, I don’t think I’ll come back here anytime soon.

Good food at reasonable prices. Not always super fast service so call ahead to place your order if you have a short lunch hour. Great deals on the bento boxes. Grab takeout from them all the time and I’ve never had an issue with freshness. Not gourmet(not a date place) but it’s reasonably priced sushi if you live/work in the area and need your sushi fix.

have been a longtime customer of this takeout place near Vancouver General Hospital. I believe they have the best tasting California rolls that I have ever had. I really love the masago that goes with the rolls. The lunch combos are decent. I have also tried the tempura udon which is good. Dynamite rolls are also tasty. Expect moderate lineups during lunch time when nearby employees come here for takeout. Overall, a wonderful place for sushi!

They are super quick and right by the hospital, which remains in the favor, but yesterday I grabbed one of their to-go rolls and it was … Not Good. The salmon tasted a bit … off. The Calif and veg portions were fine, but it was about the same as the pre-made rolls you can get in the hospital café. So, no need to run down the street, if time is short.

Fast sushi i can grab and run appeals to me for some reason because I stop here regularly(i walk by at least twice a day on my way to/from work). I guess most people feel that because the roll is pre-made and ready to pick up it should be cheaper. They have a unique concept(grab and go sushi) so I can’t really blame them for charging about the same price as any other sushi restaurant. Faster(and healthier) than Subway, Wendy’s, McDonald’s, Timmy’s or any other fast food place in the neighbourhood. They do quite a bit of business so for the most part the rolls, sushi and sashimi are quite fresh when you grab them. If you want a sit down good japanese meal there are tons of alternate options in the neighbourhood(which i frequent as well). But I’m not going to compare them to other Japanese restaurants, because to me they’re fast food. My favourite is the spicy beef roll, followed closely by their dynamite roll. Not fine dining by any means, but more tasty and quicker than the #5 meal down the street.

The comfort food is better than its sushi. Try the katsu donburi it is very good, I think the cooks they have used over the years were from street food and noodle stalls not sushi restaurants so they need the auto mould to make sushi but put together a perfect katsu don..

This place used to be my favourite quick stop and go sushi craving-fixer. no more. even their spicy tuna(which used to be my favourite) has just gotten icky. The quality has just gotten works over the years and the prices have consistently gone up. At 3.75 a maki roll I’d much MUCH rather go to a restaurant– the price is comparable, if not cheaper, and the quality is much better than what this place has become. Don’t bother going here– EVEN if you are in the area– try Ebisu across the street(near the bread garden). It’s the best in the broadway cambie/oak area.

This place is going downhill. I wouldn’t even bother going here unless you work close to this place and you’re too lazy to find another place. Their California rolls are their best creations and the rest are just blah. I wouldn’t eat their cooked dishes because they are again blah — lack flavour, small portions except the rice — go figure and burnt potstickers to the point they’re almost black. I ain’t eating tar. They should be kinda embarassing because exactly across the street is Tojo’s.
