Solid 3.5 stars. Great option for Vietnamese in Kits. Better than Gold Train on 10th. Good phở with nice broth. Good rice dishes. Very tasty curry dish. Female servers are good to very good. Male server is all right, maybe a little surly one time. Clean interiors, plenty of seating. Used to serve bowl of soup broth with rice dishes, but not any more. Wish they would bring back the soup!

I like the beef phở, shrimp salad rolls, and Vietnamese chicken subs from here — cheap and tasty. Make sure to put the red and brown sauces in the soup and on the sub.

Excellent springrolls and vermicelli for a great price

Worst Vietnamese food ever. I feel that I offended my taste buds by eating here. Viet ice coffee was stale and completely wrong, spring rolls didn’t even have the right ingredients in them and were over fried. And when does a vermicelli dish come on a plate and not in a bowl?

Simply put, don’t bother. I called for a take-out order only to arrive and find out they completely forgot to make the order. Worse, they were unapologetic and had no reason to explain for the mistake because the restaurant was empty. I ordered from this restaurant only because of the location and I was passing by after work. I see no reason to bother trying again given all the other places in Vancouver for good vietnamese.

Service was quick and food was delicious. Prices also extremely fair, a meal for 2 under $ 20 and barely can finish the bowl. Boyfriend loves phở and says its the best place he’s been to so we come here all the time.

Got some Phở(11) and a sandwhich to go. The broth was bland and i had to add a lot of sauces to make it taste like anything. Decent amount of meat, nothing spectacular.

This place is literally outside my apartment. I’m here quite a bit. The food’s good and the prices are cheap. There’s better phở in Vancouver, but it’s convenient. Cash only can be a bit of a pain. I usually get take out, and they’ll often still serve me green tea while I wait. One thing I’ll mention is that everything, and I mean EVERYTHING on this menu is ready within 7 minutes. Usually quicker. Phở is one thing, but my lemon grass pork meal is boxed, bagged and ready to go in 5 minutes? Pretty sure it’s precooked and they just warm it up. Somethings not right here, but I’ll be damned– it tastes good and I’ve never gotten sick.

Phở was tasty but soup a little greasy. Rice, pork chop, lemon grass and fried egg combo no. 60 was delicious. Prices were good as well compared to other Phở places. Only negative was my clothes, had that greasy smell after we left.

Cash only! Really tasty phở, fast service and a clean, fairly spacious environment. First time I’ve gone out and ordered phở on my own! I always go with a Vietnamese friend, who glances at the menu and kindly informs me, «You like #7»(or whichever number corresponds to «plain ordinary white-girl special»). Which I truly appreciate … I’m not a particularly adventurous eater, especially when it comes to meats(lean muscle tissue *only*, please) so the finer points of phở are utterly lost on me, but I sure do enjoy my lean rare beef phở anyway! It’s pretty standard and hard to mess up the basic components, but my fave(#4 on this menu) was quite well-executed here. Hearty, flavourful broth, tender thin beef just cooked by the heat of the broth, and rice noodles, with add-ins: basil, bean sprouts and a squeeze of lime. No chili peppers on the little plate but I’m not attached to that so I enjoyed it quite as much without(I only put them in for a little while anyway — see above under«white girl»!). Hot green tea comes automatically, in a regular-sized mug which was a nice change from tiny cups that need constant refilling. Today I was feeling indecisive about my beverage options, so I asked my friendly server for her recommendation between several shake options, and she instantly recommended the coconut shake. It took a little while as it was blended up to order, but it was well worth it! So fresh-coconutty tasting, and not at all cloyingly sweet. A great and conveniently located spot for yummy Cambodian-Vietnamese food. Next time, I’ll further expand my repertoire by trying one of the other features besides phở. Ordering it on my own was enough of a challenge for New Year’s morning. I mean afternoon.

I recommend the 62, 64 and 66. The Phở is excellent as well!

This place is my absolute go to if I wanna grab some filling and cheap food with friends. Sometimes you have to be a bit assertive to get what you want(ie. when I ask for a can of coke with the meal it is sometimes forgotten) but I always leave happy. Highly recommend it to all my friends.

I rushed in here tonight to get a quick meal because my hands were really cold. The service was hospitable enough, saying that they were closing at 11. I assured them I would eat really fast and they decided to let me stay instead of forcing me to take out. I had some of their spring rolls and from their recommendation, their large spicy Hue noodles. The spring rolls were crispy but the vegetables not very flavorful nor sweet. It was kind of a let down to have that as the beginning. The sauce was fresh, at least. The Hue noodles were more of a disappointment! I was thinking I’d get a spicy bowl of soup, either thick or clear, which would at least have a good hearty broth feel to it since Hue is in central Vietnam and kind of more pastoral from what friends have told me. Nope. This Hue noodle was very artificial tasting and peppery — more instant noodles than Mr. Noodles! The spring rolls were $ 3.50(a decent price for 2 rolls) and the large noodles was $ 6.99(a ripoff given that they seem to have only thrown in more soup and not even noodles — in fact, for the first few spoonfuls I dug deep and only got a few noodles). All in all, the experience was not that positive. Though I left feeling warmer. I do think that eating fast probably had more to do with it, though.

Yum. Just like it’s big brother up on 10th, this is a reliable joint. Satay beef noodle soups are the best and can’t get it anywhere else in the city like that! My friend has stated that it’s not nearly as tacky enough without all the neon signs, but oh believe me, there’s enough of it.

I’ve been to Gold Train Express II a few times, both for eat-in and take-out, but haven’t yet written a review of my experiences. I’ve never ordered something here that I didn’t like, and last night was no different. My friend and I each ordered a ‘small’ bowl of curry(I had the beef vermicelli and she had the chicken), prawn salad rolls and Vietnamese spring rolls. The flavours of everything were delicious(the curry beef was fabulously tender, the broth perfectly spiced), and everything was beautifully presented. I especially loved one of the plates used and hope I can find one similar for my own use at home! The service was friendly and quick, our tea pot was refilled twice and we were given fortune cookies and fresh orange to end our meal. We weren’t rushed out the door like at some restaurants, and when our bill came it was only $ 22 for what was an extremely filling(and delicious!!) meal.

I have been here on a couple occasions, the last probably the least favorite — only because i swear they reduced the meat they put in their sandwiches! I used to think their sandwiches were the best around, and at only $ 3.50 — but i will have to take that back and try again because last time was not very good. They do have a good selection of phở, and other soups, noodle, and rice dishes — and they are really fast for take out. Warning though, when doing take out — and if your order phở — or the other soup dishes. they give you one bowl with the soup, and you put the meat & beans, etc in the soup bowl — almost everytime it will overflow. so either dump out some soup — or put it all in a seperate bowl! How embarrassing on a first date spilling soup all over your date!(not that that happened to me. really it didnt) Oh ya, and cash only — no airmiles here!

First and foremost, the service was excellent! The lovely staff at Gold Train Express did this hungry traveler a great favor this last week, and are currently tops in my book. Easily accessible from 4th Street, Gold Train Express II is tucked into one of the strip-malls lining Broadway. The restaurant is unassuming and utilitarian, and when I stepped in for dinner it was pretty quiet. Don’t let the simplicity warn you off, though! I sat down, and was immediately presented with a pot of Jasmine tea, and a menu. I ordered the #70, which had grilled beef and marinated pork on a bed of sweet-sauced noodles and sprouts with a Vietnamese spring roll(those are usually deep-fried, unlike the Thai, which are fresh), a julienned Korean cucumber, and some lettuce and carrot. I also(because I forgot the spring roll came with) ordered an extra spring roll. Wow, were both good. The beef and pork were excellently seasoned, and the noodle sauce was light and fresh and a perfect compliment to the vegetables, noodles, and meat. I did not get the chance to try their phở, but if the dish I did get was any indication, I’m sure it’s super good. Thank you, again, to the lovely staff! And FYI, this place is cash-only, so make sure to visit one of the several ATM’s nearby.

There’s another Gold Train on 10th ave but I prefer this location way more because of the presentation of the food. Hot Summer Day: #70 Cold Winter Day: #4 Also tried their subs today, very tasty.
