The food here is always solid, however the food always comes with a side of Attitude from the wait staff. It’s as if they don’t want to be there. The three stars I’ve given is solely for the food. If I were to give stars based on service … I’d give 1 star only. Restaurant cleanliness is lacking. Try not to sit near the back where the bathrooms are or you’ll get a strong waft of bathroom deodorizer every time someone opens the bathroom door! **dry heave**!! One thing that really bothers me is that they never ring in the sales when you pay by cash. If you ask for a receipt … depending on who you ask … they’ll either say no or give you a hand written one. Like I said though … the food is solid …

Service was poor — our party of four received our dishes at intervals, and mine arrived a good 20 minutes after everyone else’s. My chicken curry soup was fairly good. Standard Vietnamese.

This is my fiancé and mines favourite phở place!!! The broth is to die for and the rare beef phở is the best ever. I love their salad rolls, best ones from a phở restaurant and their service is quick most of the time. Never too packed which is great :) highly suggest it!

Came for dinner a few nights ago. We have walked and driven by a number of times and always see the place packed so we took that to mean that it was worth checking out. As it happens they had a full house the night we visited. The place is on the smaller side, diner-esque with only about a dozen tables inside and two outside. Though it was a bit cold out, we felt like some air and elbow-room and so we kept our coats on and sat just outside the front door. The menus we were given were literally falling apart — the laminate was coming off. We had some attitude from our young server, who either wasn’t interested in our questions, didn’t know the answers or had a language barrier. As a result, we went with the beef phở which is our stalwart and almost always hits the spot. It didn’t take long for the food to arrive, and I must say the broth was phenomenal. Better than our usual place which is almost always solid(Phở Long, near Fraser & Kingsway). I didn’t care for the cuts of beef, and some of the carrots were undercooked, so we mostly just sipped the broth. The noodles were fine, and they provide us with some bean sprouts and thai basil on the side. I usually like to add a little hot sauce to give the phở some zing, but there wasn’t any at the table. They also neglected to provide us with any cutlery or napkins, which was annoying as we had to go get these ourselves from inside, and there was a steady stream of customers coming in and out. We did not see our server again until we went up to pay. Given the plethora of phở places, I wouldn’t hurry back here despite the amazing broth. They certainly didn’t win us over with their service.

For some reason, this restaurant is open 24 hours. I can’t think of a reason why I’d need Phở at 3 am but it’s nice to know that I have the option none the less. Two of us came here for dinner the other day. The place was packed, so we ended up sitting outside. They brought us hot tea quickly, which made being outside on an autumn evening bearable. As it was my first time to this restaurant, I had some questions about what was in some of the dishes however the server was not able to answer them. I’m not sure if she didn’t know or didn’t understand me but she appeared annoyed about being questioned so I gave up and just ordered. We got a large bowl of beef soup with rice noodles. It turned out to be more than enough for 2 people, we actually had about ¼ of the bowl left over. The broth was rich with flavour and came with a side plate of bean sprouts and Thai basil to add to the soup. It was very affordable and the perfect dinner for a chilly evening. Despite every table in the place being full, we still got our food promptly. Mind you, the food didn’t come with any utensils to eat it with, I had to go looking for those myself. The restaurant itself is small with not much room to move around. Pretty much anytime anyone stands up or tries to move, it turns into a traffic jam. It’s probably not the ideal location if you’re looking for a relaxing environment to chat over dinner. I’ll be back for some more beef soup but Phở sure I’ll be getting it to go.

Love the staff here. The food is great, good price, lots of value. The only annoying thing is the smokers that smoke near the front entrance all the time. It’s disgusting. Then the smoke comes into the restaurant. They really should do something about that. When they fix this problem I will give them 5 stars. Perfect rating. Great that they open 24 hours too.

I have always seen this spot, but never took the time to eat there. I have always seen the neon 24hr sign. Our service wasn’t that bad. It was actually fast, about 15 mins. Parking lot gets full, but you can find something. Menu offers a good amount of choices. Place does seem small, but it wasn’t too bad. I ordered cooked beef and tripe phở and the fresh spring rolls. I found both dishes to be pretty good. $ 8 for a small bowl and $ 4 for the spring rolls. decent

The service was crappy. The restaurant was extremely cold and food was slow and sort of disgusting. We ordered a 3 bean shaved ice drink, which is something I get often from other restaurants ever since I was a little child. The beans were actually BURNT! First time I’ve had burnt beans in my drink. It was small portion and took forever. The spring rolls and the shrimp rolls were decent. The rice paper shrimp rolls contained a type of mint– which added a little bit of flavour but was overpowering. The deep fried rolls were decent but tiny. The house special noodle soup wasn’t that good. The noodles were all at the bottom and sticky and cold. Like someone had left them there in the bowl before adding other ingredients and soup. The rice bowl with pork and chicken we ordered was too much food so we got it Togo. It was horrible. We had to ask 4 times just for 1box and 1 sauce container and 1 chopstick and a bag. We put it instantly in the fridge and the next day it I tried to eat it, I could only eat a few bites. It smelled like onion and old moldy salad dressing. Horrible. I think they even charged us extra since the bill didn’t add up. Would not even recommend this to my worst enemy.

This place is always packed weekend nights. So this might just be me. The restaurant smells like cat piss. The phở broth is weak. The soft tendon was not cooked properly and was tough. Also my room mate and I felt pretty ill the next day. I love phở, work nights and this place is 3 blocks from home but I can’t go back. Sucks…

This place is open 24hrs, is small, and the service is lack luster — but the food is decent! It’s your standard phở place so if you want to get fancy, you probably shouldn’t be going out for phở. I always get the rare beef and it’s always been good — the shrimp salad rolls are good too — the peanut sauce dip is thick and dips well — you get a big cup with your order! Be careful when you call in an order to go — they may not start making it til you get there — which is understandable as they probably get a lot of drunk late night orders that end up in a no show haha

This Vietnamese Phở house is very popular and is always busy. There are frequent lineups and late at night when the streets are quiet this place rocks. The wife and I stopped by mid afternoon to give this place a once over. The wife ordered a soup bowl while I ordered a rice dish. The Food was very good and the prices were very reasonable. We both look forward to returning. The restaurant is much smaller than we expected. The décor is eclectic Vietnamese. The service was quick and unpretentious. This place is definitely worth a visit and I look forward to visiting during the very busy hours late at night.

Was my favorite place to go until one bad experience that forever ruined it for me. I ordered the number 2 phở and their was a visible black short hair in my food. I completely lost my appetite and told the server that I didn’t like it and he asked me if I wanted a new one and I said no. He then brought me another one and said I won’t eat it and when I was leaving the lasdt wanted me to pay for the whole thing! I yelled and flipped out because as a person that works in a restaurant when a customer is unhappy you should take care of it especially when it’s the restaurants fault. Never going back again!

If you enjoy listening to rap(with profanity) and hip hop music at a loud enough volume where it can be almost mistaken for a nightclub, this is the restaurant for you. I come here typically overnight to get my phở fix, which these 24 hour phở restaurants seem to be a dying breed in Vancouver these days. I have never been here during the day as I frequent other phở places that make me feel more welcome than this place. This restaurant is lit up in 95% neon lighting both inside and out. Music is bopping out with plenty of thumping bass at what I would deem mid-volume, so any conversation you have would have to be spoken at a louder than usual volume. The service is nearly non-existant. Upon arrival, they’ll tell you to pick a table. They bring you a menu and a cup of hot tea. You place your order, and minutes later the food is brought out to you. After that, you won’t see the server again. They don’t check on the food to ensure it’s okay, nor check to see if your drinking glass is empty. They don’t even bring you your bill. You have to go up to the counter to ask for it. But at this stage I’ve decided since I’m up there to get the bill, I’ll just pay it now too. What saves this place, and why I keep coming back is it’s phở. It’s actually pretty good, even for a 24 hour place. Noodles are cooked thoroughly, and are not mushy. The soup is flavourful, and the meat is tasty. At the end of the day, it was the food that counted for me, even though I do sometimes feel like I’m clubbing and eating at the same time…

Open 24 hours, which bump this from 2.5 to 3 stars Located inside a strip mall where London Drugs is, lots of parking. The restaurant is smaller than what it looks like, it holds about 10 tables. We ordered No 2– rare beef with beef balls phở, the broth is blend, beef on the side was sinewy and chewy, beef balls were good. No 51– grilled lemon grass chicken with fried rice, again lacking in flavor in the marinated chicken, over grilled so meat is a little tough, the garlic flakes on top has no garlic flavor at all, fried rice was ok And a side order of Vietnamese Spring Rolls — over fried, nice ingredient inside but nothing special. On a Tuesday nit at dinner time, the tables turn fast. The staff works really hard and the food orders come out fast but with so many choices around the neighbourhood, it will be tough to come back. MAJORMSG, so if you are allergic, this place is not for you.

I almost wrote this review, if you can call this a review. To me, they are more of the a real long ass tweet. — on the different Gold Train Vietnamese restaurant page? I had to make sure this is the spot I have frequent to looking through the pictures that other Unilocal users uploaded. This means that all these times I was coming here, I didn’t know the name of the restaurant. I just know it as «That Phở place on Kingsway. The one opens pretty late.» Haha. It works for me, but when I tried to find this restaurant name, I kind of felt my ignorance. I have only once came here during the day. About two years ago, after I slept over at my friend’s place that was close to this restaurant. I hardly eat Phở for lunch but at that day the combination of hungover-ness and knowledge that I could go have a bowl of Phở within 5 min. brought me here rather quickly, I think. The point is that the restaurant’s interior never bothered me none which some of my friends think is real tacky. But in my opinion, who cares? As long as they serve great Phở and Banh mi? Well, I don’t. The cleanness-wise, yeah… sometimes this pace can feel a bit toward … yucky as a friend of min with bloody OCD puts it, but I don’t it comes from … how the restaurant’s owner operates. This is a very, very busy restaurant at night(I cannot testify for daytime to that, sorry.). When it’s way too busy for the staff, tabletop cleanness can be out of hand. It shouldn’t. But it happens. Yes, this restaurant needs to try harder to improve on the cleanness department. The food-wise, Phở(especially #4 large with extra Thai basil) and #84(Sorry I cannot remember the name although I have had that dish more that 100 times.) are so good! The soup is real good and that is why I come here instead of going to the other one on Kingsway. #84 is the noodle dish that you consume Spring Rolls, stir-fried prawns & Vietnamese Ham, and lots of vegetables(mainly thinly sliced cucumber) on top of Vietnamese Rice vermicelli. I normally go easy with the fish sauce they serve this one with. They are so good! Hahaa. They are great midnight snacks and great cure for hung-over. Although time-to-time the neighbourhood feels flimsy but as long as this guys in the business, I won’t stop coming here.

I love coming to Gold Train. For a $ 7 bowl of piping hot Phở, this is pretty much all you can ask for. It’s not the newest or shiniest place but it’s cozy. It’s always my go to at night, as is their phở #2(rare steak and beef balls). They’ve got a good quality soup that often leaves my boyfriend slurping after the noodles are gone. Staff is relatively friendly for working so late. Definitely give them a chance; it’ll become your go to quickly as well :)

Sh*ttiest sh*thole ever. I hate the food, I hate how they’ve consistently ignore my request when ordering, and I hate how my bf keeps taking me back to this tragically terrible crap of a dumphole. The server has been kind about me hating the food. But c’mon!!! I’ve ordered 3 different dishes(phở, spring rolls, bahnmi) over a span of 1.5 years, and each time it’s been DOUSED with CILANTRO. I hate cilantro, I always ask and even BEG to not add it. and it comes out with a crap dump of it like they’re taunting me with it. Yes yes I know what you reader might be thinking, «If you don’t like cilantro don’t effing eat at phở!» Well you know what? I’ve eaten at so many phở places in Vancouver/Burnaby/Coquitlam each one NEVER forgetting to not add it. Hate this place… just hate it.

I would actually rate this as a 2.5 star joint, if I had the option. As many others have stated, the service is not spectacular, nor is the phở. However, this place is 24 hours and where else can you get your drunk ass some Phở at 2AM when stumbling back to a friend’s house from Karaōke on Kingsway or the Skytrain? I have found myself here on numerous occasions as a couple of good friends live around the corner and while the experience is never an overwhelming ‘oh my god, so good,’ it hits the spot when you are in need of some late night Vietnamese.

Let’s start with the fact I’m not a huge Vietnamese food fan… not sure what it is… but it just doesn’t jive with my likes. This place is open 24 hours… I’m running out of good things now to say… ok things… I have a few things like that to report… and bad… a few as well. The food was so so… I had a shredded pork salad roll. I wasn’t super hungry… everyone else was having meals… so I socially ate. There wasn’t a lot of flavour going on… thank goodness they had Sriracha on the table… that lit the thing up like no tomorrow. :) Didn’t taste the sauce with it because there was an almost 90% chance it was vinegar and fish sauce. Me and fish anything don’t really go so well together… so didn’t risk it. The place is a little grungy looking… I asked my wife later if she would have ventured to the bathrooms… and from the look around the place… she just shuddered remembering it and said«No way!». Cleanliness was definitely not a priority there… Would I go back… probably not. I’d have to be hella hungry with an empty fridge and no pizza place was still open… then I’d probably still make roads to some other 24 hour place before I’d hit this one up…
