Took my ’08 328i to these guys after BMW said that it would cost $ 1400 to replace the entire shifter unit b/​c the transmission would not go into sport mode anymore. I figured it was a wiring issue b/​c some of the PRND LEDs were not going on. Anyhow, the guys at Fairview confirmed this was the case, soldered some wires, and sent me out the door for $ 250. Awesome, totally recommended.

I have a bit of an axe to grind about the proprietor because he dissuaded a prospective buyer from buying my BMW 323i. She took the car to Fairview for a mechanical inspection and he said the car needed several thousand in repairs. Lost sale! The prospective buyer said I should phone and find out his report. This is where my direct experience with the guy took a big nose-​dive!
He rattled off a depressing list of shortcomings, which I can’t dispute, because I’m not a mechanic, except to say that I had just spent $ 2,000 on servicing plus a detail job. I told him that my own mechanic had already serviced the car and claimed it was ready for selling.
The Fairview proprietor demanded to know who it was that serviced the car. I didn’t like the way he asked me, so I dodged the question and told him that he was a very «reputable mechanic» and I had been going to him for years. He asked me again for the name of the company, and I finally said I was not going to tell him. He then said, «If I were you, I’d look for another mechanic, because this guy is NOT reputable.»
This is not professional service. You can’t slag your competitors without any evidence, and even if there is evidence it is bad form to openly call down a company or professional. In my humble opinion.
Frankly, I felt insulted … the implication is that I’ve been a gullible consumer for the past 20 plus years, shelling out thousands on my vehicles for disreputable service. Moreover, my own mechanic IS reputable and trustworthy and I have no reason to switch because Fairview Auto says he is not.
The Fairview website says the proprietor’s mission is to restore clients’ trust in mechanics. In my experience, he shot himself in the foot and I wouldn’t trust this guy as far as I could throw him!
He may have been in business for years, he may be a decent mechanic, but this consumer won’t be using his services.

Brought my ’99 C280 into the shop for a rough idle with a general idea of the culprit, Peter diagnosed the issue to be the motor mounts within an hour, all said and done before the day’s end. The shop is clean which speaks volumes about the service. Additional warranty was given for the parts, which were OEM. No BS, no up-​selling, good location, the reviews are legit, except the 1 star which was apparently for the wrong shop. Highly recommended.

Once the warranty ran out on my c350 I started shopping around for an alternative to the Mercedes dealership for service. Positive Unilocal steered me to this place and I’ve been bringing my car here ever since. From the sounds of it, Mercedes was farming out non-​warranty service to this place anyway.
The owner, Peter, is awesome. I find I end up chatting with the guy every time I’m there. About his family, my family, cars… Bringing my car in is always an easy trip. Service is quick, reliable and cheaper than the dealership. I should have been bringing it here all a long.
Every summer the dashboard in my car tells me it’s time to take it in to the shop and feed it some money. It’s kind of a pain since the accumulated km’s don’t always justify it, but at least with Fairview Automotive I don’t begrudge the expense. I like supporting these guys.

I’ve been taking my BMWs here for many many years. Can’t say enough about the service and knowing that I never have to worry about looking after my car. Peter is everything you would dream for in a mechanic — passionate about cars, super knowledgeable, professional and gives you the straight goods.

At first I wasn’t sure about this shop. I took my car in for some basic maintenance and because it was making some bad sounds, and it turns out I needed a new mid-​muffler. When they called me back to tell me my car was ready (just hours after I had dropped it off) they also quoted me a high price for some of the additional work that needed to be done but said they would explain more when I came to pick up the car. I consulted my father (a mechanic that no longer lives nearby) and he suspected they were ripping me off. I figured it was because I’m a woman who looks fairly young, and decided not to have them do the work. However, when I went to pick up my car, Peter basically gave me the same lecture as my father — the quote they gave me was for original audi parts which aren’t really necessary given that it’s an older model and it was a job Midas could probably do cheaply. Peter also referred me to another shop that was a bit far away but according to him would do a better job for cheaper than Midas. Since I live very close to a Midas, I called them for a quote first, and they wanted to charge me an insane amount, basically the same as getting brand new audi parts. So I tried the shop Peter recommended and they quoted me a much more reasonable price. Peter not only helped me out by calling the shop and explaining what I needed to them so the quote would be accurate and everything could be done in one trip (much appreciated given it is further than I wanted to go to find a shop), but he also explained to me some of the questionable practices at Midas that result in them charging so much.
Overall, I felt that the service the give at this shop is the closest you’ll get to having a friend who’s a mechanic. The few services they did perform on my car were done quickly, and it was obvious to me that they pay attention to the details given that they spotted a nail in one of my tires and were able to fix it. Hopefully I won’t have to return anytime soon, but I would definitely use this shop again.

I love this place. If you have an import vehicle, I wouldn’t reccomend going anywhere else!
Peter is the sweetest, most trustworthy mechanic I have ever met. As a woman I find that I often feel uneasy when it comes to taking care of my car, I never knew where to take my vehicle for fear of being ripped off. Since finding Fairview, I never have to worry again!
It really feels like you’re taking your car to a family member to fix, he gives me the «fatherly approach» — reminding me that I should take proper care of my older civic without giving me a lecture (as someone who is a bit lacking in taking care of her car, its a nice approach). Last time I dropped it off, I couldn’t pick it up until the next morning so he kept it inside overnight just «so it would be nice and warm» for my drive to work.
The last problem I had found my car failing while I was in Richmond, I got it to the nearest Canadian Tire and they gave me a new battery, but they didn’t fix the problem. Peter not only squeezed me in the next day and sorted it out for me, but double checked my alternater at no charge because I didn’t trust Canadian Tire’s workmanship.
Saying that I love this place is an understatement.

These guys know their stuff! i found an older 87 bmw for sale for a cheap price, it wasnt running right. The owner had brought it over from japan and put a few thousand dollars into it, still didnt run right, i bargined the price down and closed the deal, I had the vehical towed to Peter and within an hour he called knowing the problem. It was an ECU, he sold a used rebuilt component for $ 270 (BMW wanted $ 1600 for new), my car runs fantastic and im a sold customer on Fairview Auto, thanks guys for your great service

I don’t know much about cars so it is always challenging finding a mechanic I trust. I had a great experience bringing my BMW here. Peter knew what he was talking about, and really explained things in-​depth to me. He even saved my old parts to show me exactly what he had done. i was really impressed. It is nice to have a place to take BMW’s other than the dealership.
