Elite Event @ Wallflower Modern Diner

All I can say is… veggie corn dogs! Aaaaaaah!
Where else? Seriously, where else in the universe can you possibly find this? Nowhere, that’s where.
Also, the jell-​o shooters were fantastic. My personal fave was the green means go, but I am a sucker for green tea.
And the staff — they should give lessons on how to be waitresses to all the other wait staff in the world.

What a great event! I was so please to be invited and had a fabulous time taking in the adorable décor of the Wallflower Modern Diner! The food was a delicious take on classic menu items and the 1950’s theme brought the entire night together! It was great to meet some Unilocalers and I look forward to another chance to chat with a few more! Chrystal and Lisa were delightful hosts and all in all it was a great introduction to this cute concept diner and to so many fun Unilocalers!

As music from the Dirty Dancing soundtrack plays in the background… the pin-​curled hair up-​dos compliment their swishy skirted owners… interesting and friendly Unilocalers in every direction… the jello shots come out, gracefully announced… I sample each jello creation, food samples, and free malibu-​infused drinks with a smile on my face.
The first jello shot rocked my world. Putting coconut milk in a shot was a brilliant idea that brought my taste buds far beyond where I believed they could go from a jello concoction in a small cup.
Lisa, Miss. Wallflower herself, was a fabulous, energetic and lovely hostess… a quaint little place that I will undoubtedly find myself sitting happily in the near future. I am very happy to have been introduced to this place. The little veggie corndogs and even specially made veggie mini-​burgers were just what I needed. And served with a smile.
A thoroughly enjoyable and lively evening… Wallflower, I am sweet on you.
And creative and thoughtful organizing… Crystal H., nobody puts you in the corner.

Yet another fantabulous Elite Event — and Wallflower was quite an ideal venue!
As I followed the red Unilocal balloons and found myself in the restaurant, I was greeted by vibrant colors and some definite 50’s glam-​style happening! Crystal stole the show when she exclaimed, «take a picture of me now, I’m holding a tray!»
The 5 different jello shooters were super yummy (mine included!), and the food always came out at the right time! Lisa, our other host, was awesome in announcing which jello shooters we were tasting, along with some other spur of the moment humor!

A fabulous night of yummy, happy, delightful, retro fun! The turn out was fantastic and I met a lot of really awesome people while slurping (gracefully) on Jello shots and munching on mini burgers and veggie corn dogs. Crystal was a gorgeous and effervescent host along with the charming Lisa. Everyone had a blast and I will definitely be back to this fabulous, quaint lounge. The whole evening had the perfect vibe and it was cool to see how many took the effort of back comb their hair and wear swooshy skirts!

If I was a building and could have little building babies, this place would be one of them…
Last night’s event at THE WALLFLOWER couldn’t have been better. From being greeted by our two lovely hosts, Crystal and Ligaya, with the first J-​ello shots of the evening; to the mini-​burgers (mit bacon!), the corndogs (I do forgive you THE WALLFLOWER, for not sacrificing animals for those tasty little morsels, but it’s only because I love you). To the saucy waitress in the green and polka dot dress, Lisa, you will always be my Food Mistress (sorry T, but she keeps me in the middle of deliciousness).
I hope all of you that made it last night have taken away something magical from the evening (The J-​Lo, The Redneck or the Catholic Priest), I know I have.
Now I have to go before this gets all messy and emotional.

The night started off great with my fabulous 50’s curls (which stayed in nicely while I slept without a hairnet BTW!) from the lovely ladies at the East Vanity Parlour.
We headed over to the Wallflower and it was a great atmosphere. Loved the hair and those who dressed up. The jello shots were great and so were the drinks (thanks Malibu rum!), Cute bites to eat — mini burgers, veggie corn dogs and beef wellington! Hubby and I also ordered some additional food including their crispy onion rings (totally recommend this) and hubby was happy with his jalepeno burger.
Glad to learn of a new resto on Main — we’ll definitely be back. Great to meet new Unilocalers and catch up with the others!

Cutest place ever! I’ve passed by the Wallflower a few times, and I’ve always been intrigued by their logo a flower with a fork cutout. Inside, one wall is covered in a flower mural– great touch: flowers on the wall at the wallflower. Ah, it all makes sense! The other wall is a wooden façade with local art. I will be back to examine the rest of the space thoroughly, and when I do, I’ll write a review…
Now I’ll attempt to recap the night in chronological order
1) Hair Do: the ladies at East Vanity Parlor fixed me up with an awesome stylish ‘do. It took a bit of hairspray but it stayed all night!
2) Choice of 3 Malibu cocktails at the bar. The mirage was my favorite– as I love anything lime. Thanks Malibu!
3) Jello Shots. They were all wonderful. I still need to learn how to easily get them out of those plastic containers! And– I’m super excited that my recipe took first place. Yay, nice way to wrap up the evening!
4) Food: Lisa kept coming around with little bites of her classic recipes. I remember a meatloaf with a pastry crust, a veggie corn dog, and sliders. Good stuff.
5) The music was great all night, I enjoyed the 50s classics. But at the end of the night, I loved the newer mix of Bloc Party and Vampire Weekend.

Crystal H. and Unilocal really know how to throw an event. The Wallflower provided the perfect back drop to this intimate and sassy event. The swag/​shwag was perfect! Buttons, lipbalm, emery boards were all over the tables. Five jello-​shots were being judged and there were plenty to go around. Three different Malibu cocktails were generously poured at no charge. Tasty snacks of meatloaf wellington, corn dogs (100 times better than the ones you get at the fair) and mini burgers kept everyone satiated. Lisa (owner of the Wallflower) was lively and very welcoming. The bartender was fast and friendly (I hope everyone tipped her well for all those free drinks). Unilocalers were mingling and as social as you would expect and many guests dressed with a ‘50s flair. Upon leaving, Unilocal totes were given out with cute little shot glasses and promotional cards for a couple of restaurants. All this was packed smoothly into two entertaining hours. Thanks so much for the invite! I am looking forward to visiting The Wallflower again soon. Naturally, I’ll be ‘yelping’ all about it.

Not knowing much about Unilocal!myself, I was absolutely delighted to be invited to this event through a friend. I loved the atmosphere of The Wallflower. It is a quaint, lovely, adorable little bar. I had the chance to meet Lisa (I think she’s the owner), and she made my little visit SO much fun. Not to mention the Jello Shooters were FANTASTIC!
It was a great evening and it has turned me on to Unilocal!I think I’ve been missing out for sometime now!

I’ll be out Unilocal’n about that… but not now, I’ve got a JellO shooters hangover. Or maybe was just the dark sun glasses I was wearing.

I wish I was psychic — then I could make sure I plan around upcoming Unilocal events and never have to miss any of them… and how I’ve missed too many in the last couple months. the fun that I see and boy was I glad I made sure I got my butt out (hm. I just remembered the photo I took with Ainsley tonight where we had to pose like J-​LO. they may be posted. stay tuned).
… anyways it was not a surprise that as I walked into Wallflower, the place was busting with Unilocalers, colourful clothing, hair-​sprayed updos and plenty of smiles. Meeting lots of interesting people and Lisa was definitely a joy. The bartender was quick on her feet /​hands and very courteous. Food and jello-​shooters came out at good intervals and the drinks offered were «malibued.»
Congrats to Megan, Raymond and Barry… and Katie and Anita — you ladies are still super awesome.
I’ll miss you at Revel Room (since I am not psychic and have made other plans)… but I know that you’ll have a great time.
