Dunbar Vacuum

I own tons of vacuum cleaners from cheap $ 19 to Dyson $ 699 to central vacs. Probably spent thousands and still go back to my trusty old Kenmore upright. So, sad to see that it might be on it’s way to the landfill, considering my friends and co-​workers have yet to find a trustworthy repair shop that won’t charge more than a new vacuum cleaner or leave feeling scammed.
Then, I discovered Dunbar Vacuum on Unilocal.I was a bit skeptical of the 5 Star since all the reviews were written by people who have written very few to no reviews, especially since it was only 1 review per year.
I took my very old Falling Apart Kenmore upright vacuum cleaner for repairs
The kindly gentleman gave my vacuum a new life with new bag, new cord, etc… It’s good as new and he said it could last another 10 years. Paid $ 60. To me the repair was worth it consider that new vacuums on the market for under $ 300 are crap.
I hope he doesn’t retire! Totally recommended !!!

The owner here is so great, incredibly helpful.
He fixed my Voltage Transformer, which only needed a 5 second solder, for FREE! Needless to say that everywhere else I had tried in Vancouver (and beyond) wanted at least $ 40 or wouldn’t look at it at all.
Highly advised for easy small appliance repairs. I take everything to him now.

After nearly falling for a scam that would have cost me over $ 1000, Dunbar Vacuum cleaned out and serviced our central vacuum system for under $ 100. They are honest, experienced, professional and knowledgeable. The technician was fully aware of the scams that other companies are trying to pull and provided a lot of insight and information to dispute multiple lies I had been told two days prior. This is a company with a long history, a proven track record, a good reputation and loads of integrity. Dunbar Vacuum has my highest recommendation on every level.

If you are in need of anything Vacuum, this is the place. They are very helpful and knowledgeable and have tons of product for both repair and purchase.

WOW… was looking for a place to get my vacuum repaired. I checked out Dunbar Vacuum on Unilocal.Looked pretty good for reviews so thought I would take a chance. Oh man I AM SOOOOO happy with the results. $ 16 later I walked out with a new vacuum head and vacuum as good as new. Thanks to the owner. I am happy .OH YES I thoroughly recommend them. If you have any problems at all with your vacuum cleaner, go immediately to Dunbar Vacuum! They really know what they are doing. Very friendly and professional service and they certainly charge reasonably for their services.

I needed to get a vacuum but was reluctant to spend $ 300+ on a canister vacuum from Costco or Walmart… I read the reviews on here and decided to trek all the way over to Kits to see these guys, and it was very much worth it. They know their stuff! I ended up getting the cheapest one ther — $ 130 — and it’s perfect! So glad I went. :D

Dunbar Vacuum made our old Panasonic Vacuum new again and we can’t thank them enough for giving it another 50,000 miles. Nice work you guys!

Love this place, although I just found it. We are so lucky to have this here. I have an old (25+ years) compact vacuum which my old repair place in Burnaby said was excellent. I wanted a few things fixed on it, and feared DV would try to sell a new one to me … but no, told me mine vacuum was commercial grade, and did a beautiful job repairing loose screws, and a filter. Really good price too. Nice to find someone who actually knows alot about their field and aren’t sales obsessed.

I am usually reluctant to get appliances repaired since it sometimes cost just as much as replacing it with a new one, but after reading the reviews I thought I would give Dunbar Vacuum a try. I am glad I did. Not only were they able to repair my vacuum for a reasonable price they charged less then what they quoted. One less vacuum in the landfill. Thanks you Dunbar Vacuum!

Good quality vacuums at good prices. I shopped around at a few vacuum shops and Dunbar Vacuums had the best selection and prices. They had some vacuums at ¹⁄₃ of the price of other vacuum shops. I’m happy with the reconditioned vacuum I bought and I’m confident that this was the best place to get a good quality vacuum at a good price!

I am in a rental with a central vacuum that kept giving me problems. On my first call out they discovered it was a switch that should have been in the off position and it was a very easy fix. I was only charged $ 30 versus their usual $ 85 servicing because it was a small fix (he could have easily charged me the flat $ 85 rate).
A few weeks later our vacuum had no suction again. I called and he came right out (he was in the neighborhood). Our water heater had gone out and when it was repaired a tube for the central vac was disconnected in the crawl space. He quickly repaired the tube and did NOT charge us. Again, he could have easily charged us the $ 85 call out fee.
Stand up guy (I even offered him a bottle of wine and he declined, said «no trouble»)
In today’s world where everyone is nickel and diming you this was a breath of fresh air.

I called Dunbar Vacuum yesterday to discuss servicing my in-​wall vacuum.
Imagine my delight when, after explaining the problem, instead of booking a service call, the service guy diagnosed the issue and explained a very simple way for me to fix it myself (involving a toothbrush). «Try it» he said, «and if it doesn’t work, call me back».
Well wonder of wonders — it worked perfectly.
I can’t imagine any other service dept. diagnosing and fixing the issue all over the phone. Thank you Dunbar Vacuum — you DON’T suck !

Dunbar Vacuum Ltd. has occupied the same space on north Dunbar Street since it first opened in 1962. Now run by the original owner’s son and his wife (Brent and Jacquie Hawkins), the store sells and repairs machines of all makes and models, and offers many accessories, to boot.
I think this is another great way to go green — why not repair your «sucky» vacuum cleaner, rather than throw it out and buy a new one?!
