A 1 km running trail surrounding the park, 2 enormous fields, a cricket pitch that hosts the most amazing crickets games, a wading pool in the summer, a basketball court, a huge playground, Douglas Park Community Center on site, free Thursday night concerts for kids in the summer, massive, beautiful trees so there is always lots of shade… what’s not to love?

Douglas Park was once a logging camp back in the 1870s. It was also used for an area to graze elk. This tree-lined park is the size of four city blocks on the West Side of Vancouver. It’s between VGH and GF Strong Rehab Centre. This is a great park because it’s never really busy, especially during the weekdays. There is a flat trail which goes around the park which is great for jogging and walking. There are also four softball diamonds and a large enough grass field to play soccer for three different matches. If there weather is nice, bring a blanket, a book, and sit on the grass at this quiet little park. According to a co-worker of mine, there used to be a stream that runs through this park and through VGH and down to False Creek. It was a popular fishing spot for trout for those who worked in this area of Vancouver. The stream is now extinct.

Nice big park just east of Oak. I go here twice a week now for my bootcamp and am always amazed by how many people are using the park at once. First time I came by I think there were 4 separate soccer games plus a number of other people walking/running/exercising. There’s a community centre at the south side of the park, right in the middle. I just wish there was better bike parking — the only spot I’ve seen so far is right by the community centre, which is annoying if you’re across the park!
