Coastal Church is a non-denominational church that meets in the heart of downtown Vancouver, in Strathcona and in Pitt Meadows. Pastors Dave and Cheryl Koop are the senior and founding pastors of Coastal. This church is a collection of individuals from all walks of life, and together we’re embarking on life’s greatest journey — following Jesus Christ. We’re not a collection of perfect people and we’re certainly not the perfect church, but we’re passionate about growing closer to God!

History

Established in 1994.

In October of 1993, Pastor Dave Koop led a group of Bible school students to begin praying and exploring the possibility of planting a church in the Westend of Vancouver.

This initiative soon led to a small group in the area. From the beginning, life group meetings were used as an opportunity to meet new people and grow in Christ. This has become the backbone of the church today.

After prayer and preparation, an outreach service began on the night of Friday April 15, 1994 at the Landmark Hotel on Robson Street. Official Sunday services began on September 11, 1994 with a group of forty committed believers.

Since then Coastal Church has grown from being that small, start-up church meeting at The Landmark Hotel on Robson Street, to who we are today with a variety of nationalities and backgrounds in multiple locations.

God has been faithful through every season. We give Him all of the glory for what He has done and we praise Him for what He will do.

Meet the Manager

Pastors Dave and Cheryl K.

Manager

Dave and Cheryl met in 1977 while attending Columbia Bible College in Clearbrook, BC. After being married in 1978, they spent the next ten years pursuing further education, careers and raising a young family. During these years they experienced several divine occasions where God would call them to pastoral work, so in 1988 Dave left a successful career in the oil industry to take a position as assistant pastor in Regina, Saskatchewan. Over the next four years they ministered together before answering a call from the Lord to start a new church in the heart of downtown Vancouver in 1994.

Together they share the duties of pastoring a busy city church. Besides her role as a wife and mother, Cheryl serves at Coastal as a pastor overseeing a number of areas. In addition to his role as a husband, father and pastor, David serves on a number of church and para-church boards. He recently completed his doctoral studies at Bakke Graduate University.
