What an awesome reataurant! Deep fried– good! Seafood — good! French fries — good Lots of choices in the menu and quick too. Cant complain with his kind of service. I got the calamari and chips. Boy it was crispy, seasoned and plenty. Cant wait to go back!

I am rating only the clam chower and wow was it a turn off! There was more clam shell than anything, I did not finish the bowl which I waited long time for. I was happy with the peach juice/drink. No smiling people behind the counter either. It’s too bad because its a great location for a place like this.

Long story short, mediocre and greasy fish and chips. Celine’s was my first F&C and I couldn’t understand the hype behind the dish itself until I had better ones elsewhere. The plus about Celine’s are that the fried fish piece was huge and fries came in generous portion, so if you aren’t picky and your fish and chips, maybe this will be a steal for you.

In spite of the luke warm reviews, I walked by this place on April 27th and book marked it for future reference. I am all about the grease and I had a massive craving for it. I will agree with one reviewer that it was more batter than fish. The batter was fluffy, however, felt as though I was paying more for batter and fries than actual fish even though the price was reasonably fair. It is a medium sized establishment, therefore, do not get intimated by the line-ups as they do move fast. The only issue is that you may not have anywhere to sit, however, there is a lot of places to sit on Granville Island especially on a nice sunny day. Customer service was good.

This place was just alright for me. The fish wasn’t anything special, but it wasn’t bad either. They did use just the right amount of batter and made it so that it didn’t completely mask the taste of the fish itself(one of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to fried fish). The fries… I wasn’t a fan of. They were so oily! Every bite you took you could feel little droplets of oil squirting out. I couldn’t bring myself to finish the fries. I thought they were on the salty side, too. So all in all, I’m not that big of a fan of this place, but the fish was A-OK.

2.5÷5 The lineup at Celine’s was massive when I was there, so I took a look at this stall to see what could be the attraction. I looked at the options, and the clam chowder stood out, as I figured the west coast would be famous for seafood. Also, for the price I imagined it would be one of the more popular menu choices. The clam chowder was actually of good quantity for $ 6, but it was definitely not worth $ 6 in terms of quality. There was a lot of cream in the soup, but not a lot of clam chowder itself… or even potatoes for that matter. For a stall in a place that attracts mainly tourists I suppose it would survive, but I’ve certainly had better clam chowders elsewhere. For the tourist-y/hype mindset, Celine’s does its job. However if you want actual food quality, I would definitely skip this place.

A pretty good place for fish and chips in Granville Public Market, but not mindblowing, and quite honestly I was expecting a lot more given that Vancouver is by the coast and has great seafood and blah blah blah all of that stuff. Honestly to me it just tasted like regular fish and chips, the fish was pretty good, the batter was not overwhelming, it wasn’t overly greasy, the portion was sufficiently large, the price point was average. Not a bad option in the Market, but not a standout.

We arrived just before they closed, but there was still a line up to order. Coming from Alberta I can’t really compare great haddock to our haddock in the prairies, but I thought it was delicious. The chips were just chips and the tartar sauce was alright but the fish was good. All in all I enjoyed it and the price was right.

My salmon burger was tasty, and my fries were fresh. They make your order once you’ve ordered. No old product. It was a little better than what I expected from a food stall. My salmon was battered, which I wasn’t expecting, and had too much batter on it for me, but my bun was nicely toasted and warm. I probably wouldn’t come here again, instead I would check out the other stalls. But if I was at Granville Island with someone who wanted a quick bite of fish and chips I would send them here. I am comparing this experience with my fish food stall experience I had at Buster’s Seacove at Toronto’s St. Lawrence Market. The food from Celine’s was hugely better.

I was expecting better. It’s quite pricey for food fair/low service fish & chips, but it’s on Granville Island so I’m guessing rent’s high and you expect to pay more. But the fish doesn’t match the price, it tastes the same as or maybe slightly better than grub pub. The fish was sizable, but I wasn’t going after seconds. If I were here again, I’d try another place.

I would give solid 4 stars to this place. Fresh make it right when you order it and they make it to the perfection, at list when we have ordered it. House Tartar sauce was good but nothing special just old school simple sauce. Would recommend it and would buy it again when around.

Celine’s Fish and Chips is one of the many food stands available at the Granville island Public Market in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Tried their Fish and Chips and another seafood entrée. Although neither one tasted bad, both entrees left us unimpressed. We felt that we overpaid for mediocre food. Not worth the price you pay. Would try one of the many other places available here before returning to Celine’s.

I come here every time I brave the crowds at Granville, and it’s one of the very few places I allow myself a seafood treat! Always seem to order the 6 prawns with chips. The prawns are a decent size, battered nicely, and are super crunchy! The fries are ok, but seem like the kind that come standard with most low-scale restaurants. The line can be daunting on weekends around lunch time, but moves at a decent pace. Excellent for bringing outside to enjoy the lovely downtown Vancouver views, or to listen to outdoor music. Maybe I’ll try something different the next time I’m there, but the prawns do not disappoint!

No, Celine’s, you do not raise your prices like that! I won’t feel the same way about you anymore! It is now $ 9.53 for 1 piece Cod! I took a good look at the 1 piece Cod orders(placed by customers ahead of me) and I don’t see a difference. The size and portion looked the same as before. Celine’s is no longer the cheapest or the best Fish & Chips on the Island. I wouldn’t say that the quality has dropped, because I wouldn’t know. The minute I saw that the prices had gone up, I took a hike and tried another Fish & Chips shop on the Island.

The fries are good. The fish is good. But the batter… it tastes funny(like something from a box) and there’s way too much of it. Plus everything is just a little bit too soggy. And expensive. I find myself scraping the batter off and eating the fish by itself… which is like the complete opposite point of fish and chips! If you really feel like fish and chips when touring around Granville Island(which tends to happen, it must be the market and the being-next-to-the-sea thing), it works to fill that craving. But there is so much room for improvement — I’ve had so much better in so many other places. The fish and chips are just so lacking in anything special or memorable. Why not serve in the traditional newspaper cones instead of paper plates? Or do something else that makes customers really remember their experience here? Sigh. So much wasted potential.

* Not bad at all for tourist trap fast food fare* After a busy afternoon at the kids’ market my little guy was hungry. Not wanting to give in to his gelato craving, I decided to order him a halibut burger and fries instead($ 10.95). As I waited for our order, a man delivered a whole fish and handed it over to the cook. A good sign. The fish did taste fresh, but I was disappointed by the fact that it was mostly batter. At least it wasn’t overly greasy like other fast food fish places. It was light and flaky and there was a generous amount of tartar sauce. Both the bun and the lettuce were really fresh too. The fries didn’t impress me at all, but they had a little sweetness to them that suggested that they weren’t frozen. It wasn’t something a little ketchup and seasoning salt couldn’t fix. Not good value for the money, but it was still tasty enough and service was fast and friendly. We still ended up getting the gelato after our meal. Yeah, I’m a pushover sometimes:)

The Public Market is a busy, busy place. First you have to make it to the food stalls, which means navigating through skinny corridors of meats, cheeses, veggies, and local crafts — easy enough if you’re alone, but quite a challenge with a family in tow. Once you get to the food, then you have to fight for a table. Hover nearby anyone who has empty plates or with kids that look restless. Stay away from the folks drinking a coffee with five empty chairs, oblivious to everyone else. When a table looks like it’s about to open up, then pounce! You’re not the only one hunting for this table, beware. Now you’ve finally got your table and it’s time to find something to eat. So many options, and you feel rushed and a bit stressed. You’ve got a whole family to feed, and somehow need to keep your newly acquired table but carry back multiple plates of food with only two hands. This is going to be tricky. So what do you do? You get some filling, hearty, snack food — how about fish and chips? That’s sure to please everyone. Never mind that all the tables nearby are eating what looks like fantastic soup in a mug with a baked on puff pastry, you don’t have time to figure out where they bought that. Get the fish and chips, and feed the ravenous family. Oh. This is disappointing. Almost $ 20 for a two piece of cod with chips and a drink. The cod is OK and the batter is crispy, but the fries are sadly dull and lifeless. Also where’s the lemon juice? I think we need to go and find Beaver Tails… Back into the jungle…

We got fried calamari, fried cod, and fried french fries for $ 17. Of course, everything is fried, but that’s why you come to this sort of joint, right? So this won’t be a criticism of the healthfulness. I’m straight-out comparing it to other fish and chips I’ve had. And as for that, it was okay. Everything was fresh enough, no fishiness and no poisoning, to be sure. But the best I can say was that it sufficed in providing me with macronutrients. I believe that the fish had been pre-cooked to some extent, and is just finished off in the fryer when you order. This might be why the cod batter was crispy on the outside but doughy on the inside. «Celine’s Fish and Chips: We Won’t Kill You!»

You’d think located on Granville Island, you would have clear passage to good fish and chips, and that anyone who opened up shop in the public market should be serving up some rock solid kick ass food, especially the likes of this simple dish, well I guess not in this case. Fooled are we, when it comes to everything that should be good when it comes to that perception we have, with price, and location. Granville Island should be a bedlum of quality, with all the tourist you get year round, the bustle of the market, and the happiness of the people who come here, but sometimes you get a mediocre experience. The fish, was more batter than fish, but that was ok, as I was in an open food court, I can take this, but waiting for fish and chips, and having the fries limp, warm and no crunch when knowing that it just came out(came out of where, a microwave) is definitely something I cannot stomach happily. It’s no wonder the competitor who is located outside of the market is so busy, how hard it is to find a good simple dish like fish and chips…

Sometimes I just get me a hankering for some fish and chips. This weekend, that hankering needed to be fulfilled so I hauled my cookies all the way out to Granville Island to get some. Jazz Fest was on, the sun was shining, the ocean was beautiful — it was lovely. The Fish and Chip’s here at Celine’s was… okay. Well let me rephrase — the fish was good, the chips — not so much. I got the salmon and it was very fresh and yummy — though really, what isn’t better when its deep fried? The chips were pretty greasy and bland. Not my favourite. When you’re on the island, this is okay, but I’m sure there are better options.
