Our clinic is a shared family practice that offers comprehensive primary medical care to all walks of life, from the newborn to the elderly. Some of the services we provide include prenatal care, breastfeeding expertise, pediatric care, chronic disease management, counseling for mental health issues, dermatology expertise, and minor skin procedures. Our focus is on preventative medicine with a patient-centred approach. Our goal is to protect, promote, and maintain health and well-being with you as a team.

We are not currently accepting new patients.

History

Established in 2009.

Opened by Dr. Janet Ip in August 2009, this practice has grown into a shared family practice with the addition of six family physicians: Dr. Kara Jansen, Dr. Jennifer Lorne, Dr. Laura Hume, Dr. Lorna Hruby, Dr. Wilson Marhin, and Dr. Serena Verma.

Business Owner

Originally from Winnipeg, Dr. Janet Ip completed her Medicine and Family Practice training at the University of British Columbia. She is a Clinical Instructor with the UBC Department of Family Practice and has been involved in the selection of UBC Family Practice residents as well as the CCFP license examination for graduating residents nationwide. She practices family medicine with a special interest in dermatology. Her passion for public health and media has led her to film two documentaries as well as participate in public skin cancer screening clinics held by the Canadian Dermatology Association. She is currently a medical consultant for various publications including Canadian Health, Today’s Parent, and Parents Canada.

I have had nothing but exceptional experiences with this practice. The office staff are friendly and the office is modern and pristinely clean. I have never had trouble getting an appointment within a reasonable time frame and the appointments that I have had never felt rushed. I feel lucky to have landed in the care of Dr. Hume, who has been very thorough, kind, and made wonderful referrals. If they are ever accepting new patients, I highly recommend this practice.

Having searched for a consistent family doctor in Vancouver for five years, I was relieved to find this office. I was first a patient of Dr. Merriman who was excellent. She has since moved, but now I’m in the care of Dr. Loren, who is thorough, conscientious, and informative. I must also comment on the front desk staff, who have handled my various requests and needs professionally and efficiently. They have gone the extra mile on more than a couple of occasions. I’m very happy with the quality of care I’ve received here so far.

I started coming to Dr. Janet Ip’s practice about 6 years ago when my family physician switched to gerontology. My experiences there (about twice a year) are always the same:
–I show up for appointments 5 minutes early, only to be seen about half an hour past my scheduled time
–it is like a roulette game when it comes to which doctor I will be seeing
–receptionists are curt and unwelcoming
BUT
–when I do get to see Dr. Ip, I quite enjoy my experience. She is friendly, polite, and offers ample and relevant advice during appointments.
As a business, I don’t think it is run well but I do enjoy Dr. Ip as a person/doctor.

Wow yet again Dr Ip’s office has managed to mess up. This place is so poorly managed. They Make appointment with specialist that are hard to get but don’t tell you the date or if the appointment was actually made. And again going to a walk in clinic is a better option. The receptionist do not do there jobs properly and could really careless about the patients.

Have been with Dr. Ip since she opened. Have only seen her 3 times in 5 years & not for lack of trying. She’s on her 2^nd maternity leave & I’ve seen her once in that time. it takes an average 2 weeks to get an afternoon apt. & most Dr’s only avail. 2.5 days/week each. by which time my medical needs would have gone unattended. So, instead I’ve gone with whichever Dr is avail. Most have been ok, but there’s no continuity of care. By the time I’ve repeated the same issues to each, it leaves about 3 min. of consultation time. My advice is to research possible ailments & solutions, then ask Dr. for best options. Avoid Dr. Ruchika SHUKLA — she started prescribing pain killers without asking if I wanted them & was out the door, walking to the front desk while answering a question about my medical issue. Discretion? Confidentiality?

I am an Architect who moved to Vancouver on Oct 2012. When I got here I searched all reviews to find «the best family doctor «because I had excellent doctors in my native country (Brazil). Dr Janet Ip had excellent reviews here on Unilocal and in another website. I called her office but she was not taking any new patients. The secretary informed me that Dr Sarah Merriman (same office) was accepting new patients. I chose her and I couldn’t be happier. She is absolutely great, very professional although friendly and super competent. The office is modern with a friendly and professional staff. I am happy because Dr Merriman is much younger than me, so I know I have found someone who will be responsible for my health till I get at least 97 years old!
I highly recommend Dr. Sarah Merriman as a family doctor and my husband is very happy with her as well.

Dr Ip has been our family doctor for several years. We’ve come to know her and her receptionist very well and have come to trust them with our medical care. Dr Ip is professional, frank and honest and has never steered us wrong. This is a shared practice, so it’s not unusual to see a different physician now and again — but they have all been great.

Having recently moved to downtown Vancouver I was in desperate need of a good family doctor nearby. One of my coworkers suggested to visit Dr. Ip’s practice as she was taking in new patients.
I called the next day to make an appointment and the receptionist was curteous and professional. She booked me in for an appointment approximately 2 weeks afterwards. When I came in to the clinic I was very impressed by the cleanliness and the modern décor.
Being a gay married man I was looking for a doctor who would be non-judgmental and approachable. Dr. Ip was exactly that. She interviewed both my husband and I in a very friendly manner. She was thorough and I didn’t feel rushed as we were talking to her. She listened carefully to our concerns and noted them on her computer. She also gave us a couple of referrals — the whole process was very smooth.
I am looking forward to having Dr. Ip as my family doctor for many years to come.
