Whoa, Caffe Brixton is vegetarian! This pub-like place isn’t in-your-face advertised as vegetarian, but if you look closely at the menu, it is. We dropped in tonight when it wasn’t super-busy, but they also didn’t have a lot of staff on the floor either, so getting water topped up only when we asked might have been a short-staffing issue more than an oversight. Still, for a place that is «seat yourself», I think staff need to be more alert. TIP: The very-discreetly-tucked-away washrooms are definitely worth a look. If you go into the bigger(handicap stall) one, look closely at the Star Wars wallpaper and you’ll notice a misspelling of «Leia». Tandoori Tofu Naan($ 10) caramelized onions, goat’s cheese, tandoori tofu, mango chutney, arugula –Totally not what I was expecting as they tofu-topped and toasted the naan into a crunchy-at-the-edges flatbread pizza. There’s no point calling this a naan anymore. –Very light dressing on the arugula. Just enough for you to notice something, without covering up the taste of the arugula itself. –Large chunks of mango in the«chutney» means even distribution is sort of tricky. This combined with tofu that tasted bland despite the clear amount of red spicing means many bites of this pizza turned out to be bland bites of tofu. –If you like tofu to start with, that probably won’t bug you at all. I need helpers for my tofu intake, and I had been hoping the tandoori part and the mango chutney part were going to really help. But nope. White Sangria($ 4.50) sake, white wine, stone’s green ginger wine, coconut juice, lychee, mandarin, aloe, lemongrass –I’m not a drinker, so I didn’t sample this. But price for portion is really hard to beat! No skimping by giving tons of ice, either! Porcini Bianco($ 13) porcini mushroom cream, thinly sliced potato, parmesan, mozzarella, truffle oil, cracked pepper –Truffle oil very uneven. Most of it was around the middle right slices. The left side had only unexpected whiffs of that whenever I detected any. In any case, not too strongly truffled, so you don’t have to worry about a too-rich aroma if you’re not so much into truffles. –I didn’t read the menu too clearly initially so most of the time I was disappointed by the distinct lack of mushrooms. But the menu does read«porcini mushroom CREAM». –Most of the flavour comes from the white cream and cheese, and it is actually tasty. –If you can get over the fact that this isn’t exactly a loaded pizza(the potato does give it a bit of «meat» /substance) price for portion is on par with something like a Neapolitan from Famoso, for example. Music is played pretty loud!

This place is great. Nice décor, good vibes, good lighting, decent food/drinks, usually good service. Servers are normally friendly; only one instance where a female server was less than friendly after many positive experiences. Not exactly rude, but seemed like she was ready to quit. Pizza is good. Nachos are good. Sangria is good, maybe a bit sweet.

Cool place. Good prices. Cool cats working. A+ people watching. Less pretentious than a lot of spots in the area. Bit gritty and unpolished. Nice beer on tap and $ 2 Phil and Sebastian drip. Bags of beans are cheaper than Revolver et al, if you’re into that kind of thing. Free wifi. Try it for coffee instead of matchstick sometimes. Service isn’t great, but great service isn’t great either, know what I mean?

Nice enough place, we came here for drinks after some dinner and were drawn in by the relaxed ambiance. I had the Dark & Stormy(a double) which was waaaay too sugary, and for a double I couldn’t taste any alcohol. A friend had some kind of float, which was pretty good. Service was fairly prompt and friendly.

The goods. Nice friendly café to hang out in, sip some loose leaf teas or nice tap beers, great selection of hot sauces with nightly drink and eating specials. Love love love the coffee. Phil & Sebastian or 49th Parallel are always rotating. They have Kambucha too! Staff are usually friendly. At 5 the lights come down low and the good music comes out. Has WiFi. Some seats are comfy, some seats aren’t as much. The bads. Staff is usually run ragged when a lot of people show up, which is usually after 5. This leads to long waits sometimes. However cooks are on their game. WiFi has a tendency to bark sometimes. Music can get stuck on repeat in the 80s. Listening to Morrissey on and on can make me get stabby Tables can get sticky, washrooms can make you not want to touch things.

Great service first off, second the food is amazing and if you just want a snack please try the beef sticks.(delicious and spicy). I would recommend this place to anyone that is a local or a visitor. They are bike friendly and in a great location. I’ve been here 3 times in the last 2 days and would suggest getting a coffee as well.

I saw this reviewed on the front page of Unilocal on July 29th and decided to book mark it for future reference. I’ve walked by this place many times thinking that this was a bar. Very woody inside, refreshing from the washed out other hipster joints. Had a London Fog which was less than $ 5 = very reasonable. Batista was nice. They were playing punk in the background but not the Colbolt version but art punk.

Nice choise of local and Canadian beers as well as some light snacks. The menu includes some fun ingredients like quinoa, hummus and naan bread and blends these in nicely with some classics with an edge like an eggplant parmigiana, a chilli and burgers.

go go, fabulous fabulous. Honestly, you won’t be disappointed. 1of the ‘original’ hipster coffee/restaurants to break open this history saturated district. Service, ambience, vibe… all good.

Good selection of rotating beers on tap and in bottles, but HORRIBLEHORRIBLE drinks and service. My friends and I came in after our dinner at Phnom Penh down the block(so so good, and highly recommended), we decided to check out Caffe Brixton. A few of us decided to try a Shot of Absinthe($ 8.50, ) since they seemed to have a few varieties to choose from, and even a little card explaining how to drink the absinthe: Step 1: Place absinthe spoon over glass. Place sugar cube on the spoon. Slowly trickle 4 to 6 oz water through sugar cube into glass. Step 2: Use the absinthe spoon to break up sugar and dissolve it. Step 3: Drink. However, out of the three choices, only one was actually available(I can no longer remember which one). It took them almost 15 minutes to get us our shots(after all of our other friends got their drinks), and our server didn’t even go over the instructions with us. None of us liked the absinthe. Our server was friendly, but wasn’t knowledgeable about any of the drinks the bar offered, and never bothered to check up on us. In addition, she would disappear for long periods of time, and the only time we ever got any service was when we flagged her down during the rare moments of re-appearance. The rest of the mixed drinks(Sangria, Dark & Stormy) were basically disgusting or made incorrectly, and all were super weak tasting. For the prices of their mixed drinks, it was definitely not worth it. I wouldn’t come back here, but if you end up here for some reason, stick to the beer!

In the time since my initial review I’ve been back to the Brixton a number of times and have been less and less happy with it. The food remains ok(the BLT on the lunch menu is good) but the service is terrible. I went with a friend for weekday breakfast the other day and they arrived 10 minutes ahead of me. In that time none of the staff acknowledged their presence and once I arrived the story was the same. I even made eye contact with the waitress and she smiled and then didn’t come over. I had to get up and ask her to come over. Once she did come over the service was quick but kinda frowny and resigned. All in all my experience here has gotten worse and worse over time to the point that I’ll probably not go back even though I now live in the neighbourhood.

If you’re looking for a place to chill and catch up over drinks with friends, DONOT come to this spot. Despite a tantalizing menu, the execution of the drinks was more than disappointing. All the drinks either had little alcohol, or none, even on the drinks we had doubled up on! One drink tasted of pure juice, while another drink(Dark ‘n’ Stormy) wasn’t even dark at all. Luckily, we knew what was missing, and asked for the rum that goes with the drink. The sangria tasted watered down, so we asked for a shot of vodka to give it a kick, and got half a shot instead. We are not heavy drinkers, but it sure left a bitter aftertaste after spending more than $ 130 to not feel anything.

Came in after another restaurant nearby had a long wait list to get in, you know who you are. Debated whether or not to give it a shot, kind of regret it now. Service was good though a bit inconsistent. We were greeted promptly and served drinks. The red wine sangria was very sweet and tasted alright. The food came after and the portions were decent. We ordered the French onion soup that was overkill with bread and cheese on top, veggie burger that had a very beany flavour and odd texture and the eggplant parmigiana which should have been called lumped spaghetti with a eggplant garnish. Verdict The good: cheap dishes with a unique ambiance. The bad: bland and underwhelming flavours. The ugly: not enough of an «it» factor to make me want to return.

Seriously, if you’re going to be a vegetarian restaurant at least buy the nice veggie patties or make your own. The veggie burger is that brown rubber your judge aunt buys to make all the vegetarians feel bad about their life choices at the summer BBQ. The bun was at least 3 days old. The quinoa balls were just scoops of overcooked quinoa on a plate. What the EFF are you guys doing? Not to mention the frowny hipster service.

Someone put moth balls on in my beer! I repeat moth balls! Over charged and under delivered. Total buzz kill on my Friday vibe. Was over charged on a basement keg beer, woof buzz’s girlfriend. I’ll tell you one thing Vancouver was cool… Until little pimple faced geeks try to open up grunge bars with the experience of a pre teen hitting 3rd base for the first time. Ciao,

Honesty wasn’t expecting much when We came across this place and wow was I surprised! Amazing brunch. The breakfast croissant was delicious and the braised short rib hash also delicious! Quiet little hipster joint. Served brunch till 2:30pm. Service was excellent they were on top of everything. The bathrooms were well kept and most importantly clean. Prices are reasonable especially for what you are getting. Pleasant experience overall and we will return.

I had the curried chicken with Brie and it was so tasty, and out of the ordinary sandwich. Mild and not overpowering curry is perfectly mixed with gooey Brie ! The bread baguette is soft, making it easy on every bite. Great beer selection, I went for the homey Blanche de Chambly.

The food is great. But the service is so, so, so bad. Such a shame. Bad service 3⁄3 times, I’m out. I expect very little! I don’t like asking for anything, I’m very easy to accommodate… But to be flat out ignored by the server?.. Come on. There’s a ton of other places nearby that have great food, and that’s where you’ll find me.

This is an interesting place. A coworker of mine tried this place during the day when they sell coffee and sandwiches i believe. It’s no different than any café around and their coffee isn’t exactly that special either. I came here with a few girl friends one night just to try it out cause we like the concept that it’s a coffee shop during the day and a pub at night. I was bit disappointed cause it was pretty dead and the ceiling was leaking. At 10pm on a Saturday, it was pretty dead for a pub. I believe it’s the location itself cause there is London pub that’s right next door and it’s like packed there. Food wise, I would say it’s pretty normal. I like their concept that everything is vegetarian. But… it wasn’t that great. We ordered a pizza, pasta and nachos. They all just kinda meh. Overall, I kinda wish the show«Bar Rescue» would come and help them out. This place has character but it needs some help.

I went for dinner and drinks here with some friends and was blown away by the standard of the food. For what feels like a nice pub, the food is what you might expect from a much fancier establishment. We devoured three separate dishes between us — my favourite being the porchini mushroom pizza — all of which were undeniably scrumptious! We also ordered white sangria which was not such a hit. It tastes very watered down and bland, which was a shame as it wasn’t the cheapest either! The décor of the place is very trendy, with dim lighting and cool graphics on the menu, but it doesn’t feel unwelcoming like some ‘hipster’ places do. Overall, I enjoyed my experience here and would most definitely return.

What a cute place — it’s pretty hipster/trendy, which is perfect since it’s a hop skip and a jump from gastown. The brick walls and industrial vibe is nice. We headed there for brunch, after checking the menu online and seeing a few yummy things we’d be up for trying. They have croissant sandwiches filled with scrambled eggs and goats cheese — that’s a good thing. The service was a little slower, but it was a Sunday brunch so we weren’t too bothered by it — there was, however, a little misunderstanding which is why they get 3 stars. I asked for the veggie-bacon as I don’t eat pork, and sure enough, real bacon arrived. No problem, they switched it up, but I had to wait for my plate while my boyfriend had to start without me so his meal didn’t get cold. The server offered to buy me a coffee by way of apology, but it was an honest mistake, she just didn’t hear me. I’d go again, it looks like a great place to sit and have a coffee and read a nice book.
