It’s remarkable how many umbrella specialty stores Vancouver can keep in business. One of them is Caça on West Broadway, which carries a full range of stylish and even beautiful umbrellas to keep you dry. Some collapse into a very small purse umbrella and others are full-size affairs bursting with colour so that you won’t lose it. A nice touch that this store offers is to make a label with your name and phone number that stays attached to your umbrella in case it does manage to get lost — very thoughtful, indeed!

With a rainy season that can last between six and eight months(or, if we’re really unlucky, longer), Vancouverites need something to help brighten the seemingly endless stream of dreary grey days that constitute our winters. The solution: A really(and I mean REALLY) great umbrella. And I know just where you can get one. The store — called Caça(pronounced«casa,» meaning«umbrella» in Japanese) definitely doesn’t carry your average, run-of-the-mill, $ 5, collapsible number. What it does carry, however, are gorgeous, sometimes extraordinary, umbrellas — models printed with the works of Monet, van Gogh, and Degas, others with sequined flowers, silvery bamboo stalks, and glimmering silk gardens, and yet more in every animal-pattern imaginable. At Caça, you can get umbrellas of every size, shape, and colour. Chances are, you’ll find one that suits you to a tee. And, considering it may just be the one fashion accessory you end up using most, the umbrella you carry should probably be something you put a little extra thought and effort into.
