Low profile place with high quality food. Not a place to go if you wanna pig out… quality over quantity here for sure. Service was ok. Overall there is something missing here, I just can’t put my finger on it. Recommend it for something different.

Such a fun date night! We scored a same-evening Saturday reservation due to a cancellation, and enjoyed the service, atmosphere, and all the food. Standouts included the amazing charred winter beet salad and the parsnip latkes.

Went to Burdock for brunch today with five friends. Was quite excited about the varied fare on offer on their brunch menu. We were a seated and served by one waitress who took a drink order for us. Fifteen minutes later a different waitress came over with our drinks. This was the start of the rather poor experience with service. We ordered our food and the waitress did not write down the order. She came back to confirm one of the meals after leaving(she had it incorrect). The food didn’t take too long to come out, but when she brought it out she had gotten one order wrong. My friend ordered the French toast but received fried chicken. She went to have it remade, however this still did take about ten mins or so. She comped the meal which is great, but still frustrating. My friend and I asked for some of their house made chili sauce and waited for over five minutes. She came back to the table to fill coffee and she had totally forgotten. By this point my food was getting a bit cold. The food itself was pretty good. I had the fried chicken which was on mashed potatoes with a dill pickle«sauce»(more just pieces of pickles). Two of my friends had the baked tomatoes and seemed to like it. The portions were a little small however, and we all left a little hungry still. The service overall was pretty poor. Not very attentive, and she did not have an excessive amount of tables. They were very well staffed so no excuse really. Wouldn’t really recommend this place until they improve their issues with service. Customers aren’t «impressed» when a waiter or waitress don’t write down the orders. If you have trouble remembering just take a pen and paper around with you.

I always have a pleasant time at Burdock & Co. Even if the wait is a little long, I’ve always been given a free glass of champagne while I wait. It’s civilized, and the waiters are all knowledgeable and super friendly. They used to have cured egg yolks with one of their meals, and I was so into the yolk that they came over and gave me a piece of toast with an extra yolk on it! One of my favourite dinner places in Vancouver, hands down!

I like the cabbage side salad and the fact that they take reservations, and it was easy to get in for brunch on a Sunday at 12 p.m.. Unfortunately most of the main dishes we had were overpriced and uninspiring. We had the kanji which I thought was quite bland, tomato and egg which was also rather boring, and the best item any entrée category was the French toast which had some nice butter covered in honey comb. That said for the price it was not the greatest and places like Medina are far superior. I probably won’t go back. Again one more mention, the cabbage side salad was excellent, far overshadowing the mains. Service was pretty good

We were met with terrible service. The hostess Julie needs to realize that customers equals sales. More customers equals more sales.

We went to Burdock with friends who highly recommended it. I don’t know if it was an off day, but we were super disappointed. First, we got there and the place was completely empty, but we were told it would be a 45 minute wait because all the tables were reserved. They should have kept a few tables free for people who walk in. The menu is small but sounds great. I got the eggs Benny. When it came, it was quite a small portion. The hash browns consisted of 3 small pieces of potato. Why bother having them? The eggs were overcooked, and the scone it comes on was not only dry, the bottom was completely burnt. I asked for ketchup to try and mask the burnt taste but got a look and was told they don’t carry ketchup. The place was pretentious and expensive. All that would be ok if the food tasted good, but it really didn’t. Also, coffee was $ 3. It was hard to get a refill and they didn’t even bring me a spoon to stir in cream or sugar. I know a lot of that sounds like nitpicking, but put all together it was a bad experience and we won’t bother going back.

I came here for brunch and had the fried eggs, bacon and baguette. It was yummy but felt lacking for a weekend brunch, both in terms of portion size and options.

Nice neighborhood spot with good ambience, interesting menu, and nicely-done exciting. Bar is always a favourite place to sit.(Wine list could use a bit more depth and diversity.)

If you want a great small plate to look at but the taste is just ok then you are in for a treat. A friend suggested this place for dinner so the four of us hopped on a bus and arrived on a sunny Saturday evening. We were greeted nicely by our server and I particularly liked her choice of outfit and makeup. We were seated close to the entrance but the matte glass wall was a good divider to give us some privacy from the hustle and bustle of the door. This place is quite small but nicely decorated, I was drawn to their choice of spider lights and cute vintage cutlery and serving dishes. As for the food, each dish was nicely presented but none of them left a good impression on me and the portion sizes were quite small. I suggest you save your money and appetite for the many other tapas joints in this neighbourhood that’ll leave you full and satisfied.

Very chic Sunday brunch place~ they also have dinner but coming here for Sunday brunch is an awesome choice ;) getting bored of Benny and poached eggs all the time? This is the place you want to give it a try and make your reservation. Food was bit of a wait after we placed our order, but the taste made it up. It was delicious: D we enjoyed the food as well as the friendly service ! Would come again!

Came for brunch in the springtime with 3 others. Was quite surprised by the variety of the menu, it offered a great deal more selection than one would’ve thought from seeing the place on the outside. The space itself is super with lots of coat racks and room to breathe… and ceilings are cool! Ordered the ramen. It was okay, nothing spectacular. Flavour was a bit too light, noodles were too chewy… but the pork was pretty well done. Hmmm… wouldn’t order it again though given the numerous other ramen options in Vancouver. Heard others say the vegetable-centric dishes were good though… :) Server was pretty fun and good about refilling coffee often, but wasn’t able to answer a number of the questions we had about the menu and the restaurant. Strange no? Probably wouldn’t come back until a ton of positive reviews come about. Too many other options that are much better in all areas.

My family and I go out to brunch at a(usually new) spot every Sunday in Vancouver. Today we tried Burdock & Co, and I was so embarrassed at my recommendation after our meal that I was compelled to write this review. Our server was distant and aloof, checking her phone at the back while we waited for coffee refills. My dad and I ordered the squash dumplings and my sister ordered their take on an eggs benny over a gluten free scone. When our food arrived it was BEAUTIFUL, but the other reviews were right in saying come hungry, leave hungry. I would expect small, expensive portions to be filled with wonderful flavor, but it was potentially the worst tasting brunch I’ve tried. Almost no seasoning, oily dumplings and simply didn’t taste good. Would not go again, it was not enjoyable — I guess I shouldn’t have let the trendy exterior fool me!

I can’t comment on the food here, because the host was so rude and snotty that we decided to leave as soon as we were seated. The menu and vibe is mildly pretentious, but I had heard some good things, and decided to give it a try. A very Main Street bearded host«greeted» us with unmistakeable annoyance and, without so much as a hello, gestured towards our table. He then left us there, without offering so much as a glass of water, where we sat for 10 minutes. We finally just left. I won’t be going back to try the food.

I personally had a wonderful experience here, the waiters were so gracious and made sure we were well taken care of all meal. We sat at the bar where the chefs were preparing the dishes, so I saw that the most popular item was the Burdock Chicken(fried chicken atop kim chee, smelled strongly of garlic), at least for that night. Boyfriend loved the crispy pork belly ramen! It is a fusion dish, with chili oil soup base. The pork was definitely melting on my tongue. We also had a Salmon dish served with a fig cake, which was my favorite. They had an item that was a spin off the Japanese okonomiyaki. It’s a corn/napa cabbage fritter topped off with sauces. I liked it much better than what I’ve had at Japanese places, since it isn’t overpowering katsu-sauced. But this was the forgettable dish, since the other two was just so amazing. The dessert was remarkable, the most delicious and expensive s’more I have ever had. Also had a cheesecake, which was very fluffy.

I really, really, really wanted to love this place, and in the end, well, it disappointed in royal fashion. Our CEO had an amazing dinner here in September of 2014 and insisted that we rent the place out for our Christmas party. Please be conscious that cost was of no issue in our reservation. Our company is fairly small and we had plenty of room before hitting the imposed minimum. We also wanted to put on a good show as we had invited some of our clients, because we have amazing clients. Of the group of 28 people, the overwhelming consensus was that the servings were too small, and we mostly left hungry. The food was served tapas style, arriving at your table throughout the evening. The portions were negligibly small, particularly when shared between 3 – 4 people, and while the menu made them out to be drool worthy, they were rather uninspiring. As one person put it, the portions were precious. One of the older guest later remarked that the quality of food was so poor that she wouldn’t dare serve it to a guest, and that she was amazed that a restaurant serving such poor quality food was still in business. I thought that the food as OK, but nothing special. The drinks were the highlight of the evening. This simple fact kept my review from being a 1 star.

Always just ok. It has fairly limited seatings and though the plates and decorations are lovely, I just don’t think the food is amazing. The portions are small and the flavors are mediocre to me. Service is also lacking genuineness both during dining and greeting.

The customer service was amazing. The food was ok. I played it safe by ordering the fried chicken, but i didn’t really like the flavour. I was looking for something a bit more classic. The biscuits were a nice touch though. Dessert was yummy but small and pricey. I would reccomend the apple crumble for sure. I don’t really see myself going back to be honest.

Immediately, the grilled beef brisket ramen caught my eye and it proved a fairly satisfying and flavourfully comforting dish. Also, the roasted squash and barley miso ramen was intriguing despite some blandness. To drink, I recommend the burdock boilermaker for its refreshing nature. I found the Marina di Chioggia squash dumplings quite scrumptious for snacking on. The heritage pork and burdock sausage was solid in its simplicity and flavour. The nicely constructed poached egg on toast with sun root humous, wild mushroom, and baby cabbage sauté was refreshing and tasty. Definitely a standout, the slow roasted bison ribs was moist, tasty, and perfectly cooked. For dessert, the pear and frangipane tart was understated and delightful. As for the salted caramel apple crisp, it was delicious in its hot apple without being too sweet. However, my highlight was the devilishly delicious chocolate pots de crème full of dark sweetness. I definitely enjoyed all the interesting dishes and options made of locally sourced ingredients. Clearly the neighbourhood agreed as the eatery was packed on a Monday night.
