Was terrible, MUCH priceier than the other bubble waffle café’s, spent $ 38 on 2 combos that will cost less than $ 25 at the richmond or burnaby locations. One soup was too salty the other too bland, and barely any meat was given. There was HAIR on their chicken, and LOTS of it. for $ 5 extra? i think not. Bubble tea was the saddest, watered down and still clumps of visible powder, with tapioca pearls that were stuck together. Long wait time, bad service. Do not go, worth the extra 20 minutes transit to the richmond locations. AVOID this at all costs

If you are just going to buy bubble waffles to go, this would be 3 stars. However, the service is bad, and all food except bubble waffles are bad– just heated up frozen stuff that you buy from a Chinese supermarket. Their Hainanese chicken might have been okay, except it didn’t taste very fresh, so 1 star for eating in; 2 overall.

I liked the Bubble Waffle at Aberdeen Centre and thought this one would be good too. I was wrong. The food was very very average, and the bubble tea(original) was the worst I have ever tasted, sugary bubble water would be a more appropriate name than bubble tea. I cannot believe they actually sell this stuff! Sure, the place seems clean and has a nice patio, but perhaps the owner should also pay attention to the food and drink that are served. I hope this place will be replaced soon.

my request of bubble milk tea without ice which tastes really, really diluted. Mentioned to the server, and he just added syrup to make the bubble milk tea super sweet. Totally unacceptable. Would not recommend this place to anyone.

Went for a quick stop to get bubble waffle for a friend, was greeted quickly after I step into their store but the cashier got easily annoyed when I asked if I can use the same stamp card I got from their other locations, he couldn’t hear what I said at first and got annoyed, could have ask me to repeat my question in a way better tone but he did not. Totally turn off by the service, one bad experience and I am not going back there ever again.

Tried this place for the first time today. Ordered hainanese chicken with rice. It was fine, nothing great. I prefer our regular spots in Richmond for this dish. I had actually been to bubble waffle before when they were in Richmond on Westminster Hwy. Apparently it is the same brand but a different owner. Anyways, I give this 4-stars because the bubble waffle is good here and they are called bubble waffle café so at least it’s not misleading. I’m not an expert on the topic, but their bubble waffle is better than any other I’ve tried, including the ones at the night market, which often have a chewy but tasteless filling. I’m guessing its just a matter of more sugar or butter or whatever, but in any case I think it is yummier.

Newly opened bubble waffle café in Kerrisdale Area. Instead of the paper menus, they have the plastic menus which you mark on with erasable markers. Yay to being eco-friendly. Another thing I’ve noticed is that their menu is a bit limited opposed to the one I’ve been to at Aberdeen Mall and it seems to be a pricier as well. This time around I tried: –Satay soup with flat rice noodles, beef brisket and beef balls. Of course I had to add a side of bubble waffles(+$ 1.95) and I chose milktea for my drink(comes with combo). This combo came up to about $ 11.90 which I remember paying $ 8.95 approximately 2 months ago at the Aberdeen location. I guess for $ 3 more you get better ambiance(not food court) and your bowl of noodles is not served in takeout bowls and you get actual chopsticks and hard plastic spoons. I can’t really compare the soup noodle since it was different from what I had last time. The bubble waffles were definitely better in Aberdeen. The ones here weren’t consistently crispy on the outside. Some bubbles were soggy. The milktea was good but I still like my yingyang(coffee and milktea) more. So because it’s a bit of a stretch to get here and the limited choices, I’d stick to getting my bubble waffle fix in Richmond.

Small mom and pop style of franchise, specializing in chicken rice, Taiwanese bubble waffles and soup noodles. My boyfriend and I had the chicken rice and ordered the chocolate bubble waffle. The food came out within 10 minutes and was okay; the rice was lacking in flavour and a bit hard and my boyfriend was not used to the cold chicken. The chilli sauce also should have been slightly sour and spicy instead of the Thai sweet chilli one. Most off putting was that a staff member had his lunch break just a table down from us and, no joke, his food chewing and swallowing was loud enough to interrupt our conversation. At certain points he also felt the need to shout to the staff member behind the counter while he had food in his mouth, visible to my boyfriend in plain view. He didn’t finish his chicken rice after that.

The drinks are typical Asian ones, like bubble tea. Plus side it offered Taiwanese beverages but also Hong Kong style drinks, like Hong Kong milk tea and lemon tea. It’s somewhere to go to hang out with friends without breaking the bank. The inside is jammed with tables. Best part of this location is the patio — can’t wait to come back in the summer for this!

[Patio & Waffes] I was in need of a mid afternoon snack and Bubble Waffle Café was nearby. Their patio was setup and the sun made an unexpected apearance making it the perfect choice. The café occupies a charming spot on 41st in the heart of Kerrisdale. There’s ample seating for 20 people and another 10 on the patio. Ordering is done on small DIY whiteboard-type sheets complete with dry erase markers. Cute. Between the two of us, we ordered a HK tea, Honey lemon tea, green tea bubble waffles, and deep fried shrimp balls. Despite sitting in, all food and beverages were given to us in to-go containers. The bubble waffles were a tad on the softer side but tasty and hot nonetheless. They were acceptably good and curbed any waffle cravings I experienced earlier. The shrimp balls were tongue-scaldingly hot and while delicious, seemed more like something I’d expect at the Richmond night market. The beverages were well-made and not too sweet. Variety wasn’t huge but they do a god job on the teas and snacks they do offer. The total damage was $ 13 — pretty amazing considering we sat on a patio for an hour in the heart of Kerrisdale. Where else can you sip bubble tea and devour bubble waffles on a patio? I will most certainly be back.

This place has really good bubble tea and some of the snacks are decent however the noddles could be improved on. But the bubble tea is so damn good

Been to 2 other Bubble Waffle Cafes(Aberdeen Centre, Royal Centre) many times before, so I came to this Bubble Waffle Café knowing generally what to expect. We were greeted with friendly service & given menus to mark our order selections on. Like the other Bubble Waffle Cafes, there were lots of options for noodle soup combos with drinks and snacks. I decided to stick with my usual combo, original fish soup with luncheon meat & fish ball with tofu. It was tasty and the portion size was decent. My friend got the beef combo with Sichuan spicy soup. He enjoyed it but was sweating quite a bit by the time he was done with the spicy soup! Along with the noodle soup combo, we both got Hong Kong milk teas, which were filtered the old school«pantyhose» style. That resulted in the taste being really authentic. We also added on an Oreo bubble waffle to share. It was made fresh & came out piping hot — soooo good! Interestingly enough, a large number of «combo snacks» aren’t actually combo-discounted when ordered as a combo add-on. only some are. The flavoured bubble waffles were all the same price when ordered with or without combo. Overall, good service, tasty food, but slightly higher prices than the other Bubble Waffle Cafes. It’s understandable though, since this one is an actual standalone café rather than a food court stall like the others. Will be back again when I’m in the neighbourhood!

I’ve visited it for around four times in total since its opening — and thought it was alright. Until recently when I went with my family and gf on two separate days, and we ALL got diarrhea right after eating their food. Just unacceptable, can’t imagine what goes wrong in their kitchen. They also increase the price for their set noodles and rice meal just recently by $ 1 ~ 2. Would not recommend anyone to visit.

I live and grew up in this area and I’m glad there is a good option for HK style milk tea and bubble waffles, both which are done really well. My friends and I tried a number of things here and it seems some things aren’t as good as others. I feel I’m being generous with a 3 star for a place like this but they just opened and there’s not much else to choose from in Kerrisdale if you’re craving this type of food. Appetizers/Starters: Takoyaki — surprisingly good, tasty and looked the part! Curry fish ball — sloppy, inconsistent texture, and the curry was really bland. Nothing like the curry fish ball and pork skin you can get at Parker Place. Soup Noodles: Laksa is very bland, not a rich broth at all, go to Deer Garden if you want a good Laksa. Fish Soup was also kinda bland, again if you want a good one see Laksa… Original Chicken Soup was a well balanced broth and I quite enjoyed it. Fish tofu was really good, just the right texture and taste. Beef brisket however was very disappointing, kind of a chewy flavourless mess. Overall the soup noodles/toppings here are a 3⁄5 at best. Bubble Waffle: Only tried the original flavour egg bubble waffle but they were cooked perfectly, crispy on the outside with a bit of fluff on the inside. The portion is smaller than what I’m used to getting at Parker Place but for $ 1(if you order a combo) you can’t complain. Milk Tea: The one that comes with the combo is quite small, I opted to pay the 50c more to upsize it. It’s well prepared and you don’t get that nasty dry mouth feel you find at some lesser restaurants. Ambiance/Service: The layout is cramped and it’s hard for the server/customers to get through the area where the cash register is. Lots of seating but I’m not sure they have the staff to really run it if it was packed. Décor is nice but the door kept jamming open when I was there due to the floor mat getting wedged in, this made the place fairly cold(in the middle of January) and I did go out of my way to unwedge the door several times. I see potential here and hope that they will take some of the reviews seriously and make some changes to the food.

Agree with David L. — the chicken was fine. Hainan chicken is one of my favourite foods and the Bubble Waffle Café’s is passable. Not the best but passable enough that I would most certainly return, especially since there’s no other place in Kerrisdale that I know of that offers this dish. Also similar to David L., I experienced a pricing snafu, in that I ordered just the Hainan chicken(i.e., no rice and no drink), and $ 10.45 for a chicken thigh with a side of stank attitude is not what I consider good value. Overall, however, I’m happy to have this place rather than the horrible 41 West and its string of equally horrible predecessors. Just hope a nicer server will be working the counter next time!

First review! I may be biased because I like both(1) Hainan chicken rice and(2) waffles, and these are their specialties, but I thought this hit the spot. Good addition to the neighborhood. We came on a Sunday afternoon(busy, but 1 or 2 open tables) and tried both of the above(waffle comes in «Hong Kong Style» and«Hong Kong Bubble Style»); also tried the laksa Hainan chicken noodle soup(a spicy Singaporean dish). The Hainan chicken isn’t absolutely the best I’ve ever had, but good enough for the price and convenience. The combo deal is reasonably priced(milk tea and chicken combo, plus $ 1 option to add a waffle). The laksa was also fine. Eat-in orders involve filling out a sheet of paper. So why not 4 stars: They seemed a little short-staffed(one person waiting the tables) and got our order wrong(short an add-on waffle). After I pointed this out to the server, the error still made it onto our bill, and then they said it was too hard to give a refund on an order already paid by credit card-our only option they gave us was to wait for the missing waffle, so we did), so this review gets bumped down from 4 to 3 stars. We all understand that mistakes happen, especially when things get busy, but a 4-star review ought to mean a restaurant has to try a *little* harder than that to make things right when the restaurant itself makes an error. Will try this place again to see if they deserve the 4th. Bonus points: Free wifi. And does take credit cards, unlike a lot of other casual places like this.
