Book Warehouse

Samantha is the most knowledgable book store employee you could ever hope to meet. All of the staff are friendly and helpful and, of course, the store’s prices are reasonable. If you need help buying a book as a gift, I heartily recommend the Book Warehouse on Broadway. The one on Main Street may be just as good but I have not been to that one.

Update: Since Book Warehouse changed hands a few years ago and is now a part of Black Bond Books, I’ve noticed that this location’s selection of poetry has dropped in quantity. I find it easy to judge a bookstore based on its poetry shelves but, ah, that’s me!
The staff, however, are friendly as ever and happy to order books in for me whenever I ask. There seems to be less bargains, and instead it feels more like a regular bookstore – although of course it’s local and independent and still superior to box chains like Chapters. I’m grateful to have a local bookstore in my neighbourhood!

i miss the range of independent bookstores we used to have in the city, and so on occasion whence my wandering feet chance to take me in the vicinity of what is perhaps the last holdout from the big chains, I oblige the urge to allow my mind to touch the corners of nearly every book on the shelves, to allow my imagination to guess at the content within.
At last I choose from their selection– today it was Plato’s politics, but who knows what my next journey might bring?
I just wish there were more of these mystical realms to which my feet might find me.

Solid 3.5 stars. Convenient location in fairview, smaller store than Chapters obviously but less hassle.
Do have a few wooden chairs to sit and browse in the back.
Cooking and autobiographies on the right.
Greeting cards available too right in front.
Too bad they don’t accept Amex her, lost a sale.

This is a great story for new and remaindered books. It’s a charming store; the card selection is great too.

Another great book store soon to be bellied up due to the culture that we live in and the large book stores, however, amazingly I am thankful for this store with each passing month. I used to come here a lot for books and awesome discount prices, however, lately there seems to be a disappointment in selection as it’s slimmed down considerably. I come in here to browse and walk out with something every one in a while. Customer service has always been decent with me.

Fantastic service, attitude and selection of books at discount price, I bought 3 books for 30 $ that would have cost more than60 $ at other stores. The staffs were friendly and helpful, one greeted me with a wave when I walked in. Would recommend this store over chapters.

I was so sad when this store nearly went out of business last year and am glad it was saved, even if it isn’t quite as good as it used to be. I love browsing through here and rarely leave empty handed. You never quite know what you will find here and it’s a good alternative to that big book chain that seems to be taking over our country.

Hey ladies, men don’t love big boobs; we love big brains. I’m gay, I would know.
The size isn’t mega-​huge, but I find it a good and moderate size to enjoy. It isn’t overwhelming, and after an hour, I feel pretty satisfied. I personally find quality to be much more important than quantity; the staff is very accommodating to my needs and is quick to make suggestions. The variety is rich and there is something suitable for everyone.
¹⁰⁄₁₀ would bang again.

Good selection and okay prices. (Not as low as before, but maybe that’s why the previous owner went out of business! Now it’s a subsidiary of Black Bond Books and apparently follows their corporate practices.)
Service is quite spotty. Watch out for being charged a higher «Canadian» price on books even when only a lower price is written on the book; likewise for one clerk stamping a box on your frequent buyer card off-​centre, and then the next clerk stamping the same box again. Hmph. (The particularly surprising thing about the first situation was that they did not refund the difference when I pointed out that the price they charged was different from any listed on the book. Very, very odd. Needless to say, I returned the book and got a full refund instead.)
Anyway, it is worth a visit, but caveat emptor.

Book Warehouse was going to go out of business but this one location was saved. It’s still got decent service that’s eager to help, but the prices seem higher than before. Discounts aren’t uniformly listed but they seem to have a much wider selection of specific goods.
Some special sales seem to be more easily apparent nowadays, and those are quite pronounced on their new prices. I’m quite pleased with being able to pick up a French instruction set and the Araxi cookbook for under $ 30.

Stop by tonight on the way and over the new owners cleaned up the updated the lighting and got ride of the stale stock. It a book store check it out and buy something if you think you might like reading it.

Glad this place is staying open (although I was appreciative of the going-​out-​of-​business sale earlier this summer).
It’s a very good alt to Chapters @ Granville & Broadway and there’s something about being able to flip through books rather than click around online. Let’s call it nostalgia?!
Although not as vast as other places, this place still has a good selection of books and the staff make really good reco’s if you tell them the kinds of books you’re looking for. It is also a good hidden gem to grab your Lonely Planet travel books as I think they’re a few bucks cheaper than what you’d get at Chapters. They sometimes also have deeper discounts a select few.

Sadly, it’s going out of business, and nothing much is left! But «survival of the fittest» as they say, and more often than not, I have been disappointed with Book Warehouse over the years. Still, I like to go in and browse, and I usually leave with a small purchase (although admittedly, it is not always a book!)
I was there recently and didn’t see too much. Some of the greeting cards that were left were quite cute if you are a sentimental card person.
The cashier on the «right» was so helpful and nice. Some people are naturally warm, and I was surprised at how informative she was. I wish that I had asked for her name. She even offered to bring in a book for me that she said staff was permitted to «borrow» before selling. I guess that’s one benefit of working at a discount book store?
The other cashier on the left was quite rude and short with me when I asked her any questions. Honestly, I would never go in there again if I had only dealt with this lady. If she is like this with everyone, then I could see why this place is shutting down, even though I’m certain that was not the case. I wonder how such people can be in customer service? Baffling. But perhaps she was just having a bad day, after all.
Three stars for the cashier on the right! Go check it out for yourself before it’s too late.

So the other day my doctor recommended a book that normally I would have to order online as it’s not usually available in a book store. However, I decided to try this place out as it was right across the street. I was pleasantly surprised as they had EXACTLY what I was looking for.
The staff were polite overall if a little bit slow but that wasn’t an issue for me that day. I was in the wandering mood and not in a rush to skytrain back home.
What I really liked was that the store was well organized and it was super easy to find what I was looking for. The prices didn’t hurt my wallet either. Saved about $ 5 on the purchase price. I like me some savings :)!
The only downside was that I wasn’t able to locate some mindfulness books that included the CDs for meditation. I am more of an auditory person when it comes to these things and am still on the hunt for this.
I will definitely be back to look for more books I need/​want.

I love that this place has a decent selection of everything, the staff are quite knowledgable about the selection in the store. I was randomly looking around and I happened to find #3,4 & 5 for a set of manga I never had the time to finish collecting. (for $ 3/​piece!) Manga’s are usually more like $ 20+/book.
GIve this place a shot before you wander over to Chapters!

Never had the chance to actually enter this store till now, and I was surprised at the selection. The place does not look that big on the outside, and when you think of the word «Warehouse» you think of outdated, old books, and nothing near new. Well, take that thought out of your skull, this place has some new stuff, and pretty current. I came in here just to take a stroll around the neighborhood, and was stuck in here for a good 30 minutes thinking of what to buy, I did leave with a travel book, this year’s edition of New York, for a good friend.
The people in this store are helpful, and the selection is nicely catagorized and spread out. Expect to pay 20% less for newer titles, and much more for older ones. Always out for a good bargain, and next time even if you are not in store to buy anything, take a walk in, you will waste some good time.

This book store is awesome! The prices are a few dollars cheaper than what you’d pay at Chapters and other bookstores, which is a great deal. The selection isn’t as large as Chapters, but it’s pretty great for a smaller book store. It reminds me a lot of the used book stores in the United States, but the books are in much better condition.
The store organization is great. It’s really easy to find the section you’re looking for. If you’re having problems finding something, the staff are really friendly and more than willing to help.

Buy your books here, if you can find them. That is, the books are cheaper than at say Chapters/​Indigo, but the selection is small.
They do have a great section of greeting cards that outdoes its big name nemesis and I would check the place out for mainly this.
