I LOVETHISPLACE. I’ve come across malls that have Beard Pap’s, but I never purchased anything. Yesterday and today, I finally bought some vanilla puffs and I was very pleased with it. You must eat it the day of. The creamy custard really makes the puff taste good. Their chocolate flavoured puffs are good too — tastes like chocolate pudding but it’s actually made with real chocolate. Vanilla puffs are $ 1.75 each or 6 for $ 9.50 and the other special flavours are $ 1.95 or 6 for $ 10.50. The owner of Beard Papa’s was really nice today and allowed me to try a cheesecake stick. It was nice and creamy — and it wasn’t sweet so it really allowed you to taste the cream cheese of cheesecake. The next time I see Beard Papa’s, I’ll definitely buy more puffs!

I’ve had chicken feet, glutenous rice, Japa dogs with shaved radish(see my review somewhere on Unilocal), but nothing sounds more un-appetizing than beard papas. Oh, they sound innocuous enough. .. what’s that you’re eating? an old man’s beard. Hmmm, yes, the man sired off-spring, hence the«papa,» and yes, he has a thick and luscious beard. What self respecting dude is going to say he cupped an older gentleman in his hands and gently sucked out the creamy and buttery goodness from within this«papa»? I certainly wo. .. well, truth be told. .. I did it. I’m not ashamed of it anymore. I did it and I loved it. Yes, I am a Beard Papa nut. The sweet cream and butter filling that, I assume make up the beard part of the beard papa, will stop your heart by clogging up the arteries in your ticker. .. but damn what a way to go. The light pastry casing, which I’ll assume is the«papa» portion, is gentle on your tongue and taste buds. It’s the filling, or beard, that hooked me, and all of my friends I try to turn onto this dessert. Yes, the name is really, really silly in my humble and ignorant opinion, but«beard papa» probably has a totally bitchin’ meaning in Japanese. So, make like a baby and head down to one of the 3 or 4 beard papa locations, try to look past the name(read = understand whatever the hell it means, or try not to be fooled by the name because who would ever think that it’s a Japanese éclair) and try one. .. or six of these in one sitting. .. yeah a friend of mine did it once. Just once.

I’m a huge fan of their green tea cream puffs but they don’t make it everyday so you have to double check their schedule before heading down to grab some daily special flavours. :)

This is the 4th Canadian location of this extremely popular Japanese cream puff chain.(Some have called it the Krispy Kreme of Japan.) The first location is in the Aberdeen Centre down in Richmond, and they have a location in Crystal Mall out in Burnaby as well as on diabetic alley(Denman St.) in the West End. The cream puffs have been written about lots of places, and are quite good. The product here does taste similar to the ones I have had in Japan and other countries, although perhaps a slight bit sweeter. This particular location is in a greasy food court. They really are going mainstream now, eh? Conveniently it is downstairs from Kirin Seafood for those after dim sum crème puff urges.
