Specialties

ArtStarts in Schools provides innovative arts programs for young people, practical resources for teachers and artists, and leadership in advocacy for arts in education.

Founded in 1996, ArtStarts is a not-for-profit organization that brings professional artists into BC schools for performances, workshops, residencies and exhibitions.

The ArtStarts Gallery, located at 808 Richards Street in downtown Vancouver, is the first in Canada devoted exclusively to young people’s art. Since the gallery opened in 2006, our exhibitions have celebrated the exciting artwork that emerges when students, educators and professional artists work together to deepen learning, creativity and community connections.

One Saturday each month at the Gallery, ArtStarts is pleased to offer free arts-based weekend activities and workshops for kids and families. These events feature 45-minute, multidisciplinary, culturally diverse workshops with some of the best children’s artists.

ArtStarts offers 3 distinct spaces available to rent for meetings, staff retreats, brainstorming, fundraising events, board meetings, workshops and more: the ArtStarts Gallery, Lab and Cherniavsky Boardroom.
