Amy’s Loonie-Toonie Town

I couldn’t find what I was looking for at the Dollar Tree, however, I found it here. Here is the problem… the item for a simple notebook was $ 6! I knew that for a store called «Dollar store with more» that it wasn’t going to be a true dollar store, however, get your head out of your a$$ $ 6 for a notebook really? I find a few things stupidly priced, however, most were reasonable within the $ 1 — $ 3 mark. I ended up spending 20 minutes in the dollar store buying card and scrap booking material. Customer service was awesome and helpful. 3 stars only ’cause of the over priced stuff.

Massive selection of cheap items. A dollar store as it should be. From the outside it looks like it’s a small and run down store, but it is surprisingly clean and organized.
Minimum of $ 5 to use debit/​credit. Surcharge of $ 0.25 if under $ 5.

Hey, kids! What’s this, you say? Why, it’s our somewhat unfriendly neighbourhood dollar store!
I don’t mean to say they are ALL unfriendly people. I just think there’s a language hurdle there that cannot be tackled at any time. I’m usually in and out of there when I need some little bathroom, kitchen or household accessory. They’re good for things that you don’t care to keep for long, things that won’t last long anyways (bathtub scrubbing brushes…) and of course, greeting cards.
Yes, I buy most of my greeting cards here. Most of them are only $ 1. And just in case you like to get really fancy with your greeting cards, they have the pop up or musical ones too for $ 1.50 or so. I enjoy getting these for children’s birthdays.
Basically, it’s no Dollarama. This one’s no good for browsing. Still, it’s pretty handy for most things. So far, I have found every little trinket I looked for at this dollar store.

It’s a standard dollar store, with standard dollar store items, priced at the standard ultra-​high prices that are far more than the dollar store category implies.
Craft supplies, fly swatters, christmas lights, soda pops, glassware, sewing kits, plungers, stationary, toys and games (no, not those ones you might usually associate with the West End) — Amy’s is some kind of weird hybrid dollar store. They carry flip flops (which should never be worn in public, even if you are on your way to the beach) and sun hats in the summer, and snow shovels and the like in the winter, so I suppose the place is useful, you know, under some circumstances. But why do all dollar stores have that weird smell?
I do know this: you best be bringing plenty of loonies and toonies if you want to buy something from here, ‘cuz there be no exchanges, no refunds.

first, i get it, it’s a dollar store, but service is service to me.
im checking off stuff on a list of things i need to bring overseas to my parents. i had checked a couple places and found that the bags i needed were expensive, couldn’t find fly swatters so i hit the dollar store. bags and fly swatters obtained. although the bags were more expensive [by $ 2.00] i was able to get the fly swatters in the same place, so i bought them.
then i happened by the bags at another location for $ 1.79 for 100 when i had paid $ 7.00+ for 120 bags. i also received an email from my parents saying they had received a crap load of fly swatters in the post.
i read the receipt which clearly states: no refund, exchange only within 7 days with original receipt and unopened package
call me crazy, but i remember a day when you were roped into making an exchange that you were at least entitled to keep your change.
i picked an item that with tax would have come to over half of my receipt and was refused my change and told it would be credited. but this is also a DOLLAR STORE, not Betsey Johnson, seriously you can’t give me my less than $ 5.00 in change when im following your policy and making an exchange?
nope, apparently not.
then, they wouldn’t even let me exchange my stuff for what i wanted, they took it tossed it behind the counter, took the stuff i wanted to exchange and wrote the full CREDIT on the back of the receipt.
i explained to them that if they wanted to give me a credit it had better well say it on the receipt next time because i had CLEARLY followed their policy. [granted, there won’t be a next time]
now, i have nothing off my list and a useless credit for a dollar store.

Not open as early as I’d like on a Sunday (11am) but full to the rafters with inexpensive and handy merchandise. Be sure to check out their huge craft paints and sewing notions!
