Business Owner

Our Expert, Brian Grant Duff, began collecting stamps at age 7. He ran his first stamp approval business at 14, and by age 18 was working full time for EATON & SON’S in both Vancouver and Toronto. With over 25 years experience buying, selling, and auctioning Canadian and Worldwide Stamps, Collections, and Postal History, Brian assists all levels of collectors in pursuing their collecting passions. Brian lives in Vancouver with his wife, Sarah, and their son Thor and daughter Sheila. He currently collects vintage postcards featuring stamps and coins.

The store looks like an episode of hoarders. I am surprised that the owner even knows what he has in stock. I came here on recommendation by my best friend since I collect cartoon stamps from Europe. He was unsure of his own collection and I can see why with lots of unlabeled boxes. The don’t carry anything new. Meaning if it’s from 1980 to present = he does not have it. I was looking for something specific which was a 1999 Pingu stamp from Switzerland.

I did not experience good service here and left feeling hesitant to go back. I have a family collection looking to downsize, where I had questions about appraising and selling. The older man who I dealt with seemed annoyed at my questions and kept saying «you have to pay me for a detailed appraisal and to look at it. I can have a quick look only and see if anything pops out.» I had to ask about options like the auctions and how they work. Place was cramped and not tidy. At one point he got frustrated when he needed to rephrase an answer when I asked for clarification on something I did not understand. Not a welcoming place to me. The only reason I’m giving two stars is because of the auctions option to get something rather than nothing if you are looking for cash.

It’s time to part with that stamp collection I’ve been keeping in boxes every time I move.
Super friendly and honest owners who were helpful with my questions and gave information regarding my stamp collection. Not surprising, a lot of it was old common junk, but they did make a reasonable offer based on what they could get at auction for it.

While traveling recently, I stopped by this shop and found a great old-fashioned storefront coin shop. The proprietor was friendly and helpful. The selection was good — he was able to provide a good number of possiblities for each request I made at multiple price points. I was looking for Canadian and better world coins and had a good experience here.
