Aarm Dental Group on Hornby

I use Dr D’Alfonso and she is great, as are her Hygienists. Great location and nice office with TVs on the ceiling to pass the time.

I just had my 4^th visit today, and I can easily say that Dr. Flunkert and his staff are just amazing. Lori the receptionist is always super helpful with scheduling and insurance questions, and she is very friendly.
The office is modern and clean and comfortable. They have tv’s in the roof so you can put on headphones and zone out. Love this feature.
Dr. Flunkert himself is a true professional. I hadn’t seen a dentist for about 6 years, and I knew I had a lot of work to get through. I also told him I was working with a budget, and he was more than happy to construct a list of priorities for my dental work. I completely trust his opinion, and I also feel like he respects the budget I want to stick to. He is very gentle, and always makes sure to freeze me from here to high heavens so I don’t feel a thing. I highly recommend him to all you babies out there that are scared of the dentist. I never thought I would say this, but I have actually fallen asleep in his chair.

If you have an irrational fear of dentists, this place may change your mind.
It had been way too long since I have been to a dentist. I had just found a new one in Lethbridge before I moved here, and so then a mix of probationary period waiting on insurance to kick in, traveling, and of course, procrastinating and an irrational fear of the dentist prevented me from going. It had been like…4 years?
But I walk by this trendy lil dentist every day and finally decided to bite the bullet and make an appointment.
So I did. and I was amazed.
Dr. Charmaine Fong was my dentist and she had a great «bedside manner,» chatting away with me and at the same time telling me what she was seeing. They’re technologically up to speed, and I got to view my dental x rays on a little screen in front of me. She explained them thoroughly to me and what they look for (which I seriously find way too interesting). She even explained to me the bumps forming in my mouth (tori/​torus) and what they are instead of my last dentist’s explanation of «that’s normal for some people.» Cool.
All in all I was in and out of there in an hour with NO CAVITIES! (win!) and a gained trust of dentists. She was upfront about where and how I could improve on my dental hygiene, and where and how I was doing a great job. I definitely understand how this place has earned «Best of Vancouver.» It’s well deserved.

I am new to Vancouver and went to this clinic based on fellow Unilocaler reviews. I went as I noticed my front tooth was loose and there was a swollen bump above it. I went in and the dentist said sometimes teeth become loose and the bump looked like a canker sore. I’ve never had any issues with loose teeth and this tooth had a root canal done in the past. He told me to leave it for a week and I made a follow up appointment to finish my cleaning. That week the bump became really swollen and it turned out to be an abscess which is really dangerous if I didn’t get antibiotics. Good thing I went to a walk in clinic before our next appointment or I could have gotten very sick. When I returned the next week he took my loose tooth more seriously and sent me to a root canal specialist. Turns out my root canal had failed and he had to perform an emergency root canal that same day. Good for general cleanings and such but I would not trust going to them for anything other than that.

I’m now ready to admit that I hadn’t been to the dentist in about 5 years. It was the combination of having moved here from another province and not knowing anyone who had good things to say about their local dentist that kept me from finding a dentist of my own. I walk past Aarm on Hornby all the time since it’s right near my apartment, and it looked… welcoming? as welcoming as a dental clinic could look, so I decided this would be the one. Five years is way too long and I was worried I might have to have a lot of work done.
The reception staff is very friendly and also very helpful. They took my insurance information and they deal directly with the insurance company, which means I don’t have to pay the whole cost up front and then wait to be reimbursed. The office is very comfortable, everything looks brand new and up-​to-​date, with video screens everywhere and very comfortable furniture.
Dr. Alfonso was really great. She is very friendly and personable. At no time did I feel even for one second like Dr. Alfonso or any of the other staff were pressuring me to get any extra procedures. There just seems generally to be a high level of professionalism here, and combined with an overall friendly attitude from everyone I felt very much at ease the whole time.
And the good news: no cavities.

When I moved back to Vancouver 5 years ago I realized I only had until the end of the month (3 days) before my dental plan ran out. I called around and Aarm Dental on Hornby was the only place that would take me last minute. I have never looked back. All the the staff here are wonderful. The receptionist is a doll and is always so nice in a genuine way. Not to mention all the hygienists and my dentist are all top notch professionals. They have been very good to me. The office moved last year to a nice modern renovated space. I love the new décor.

I recently received dental coverage again and had to deal with a cracked tooth. I was really wary of dental work as it had been too long since I had been.
After searching online for dentists downtown, I came across Aarm Dental Group. A few coworkers of mine go to their Yaletown location so I thought I’d check it out! I was unable to book an appointment with the Yaletown location as it was closed for renovations so I made an appointment with the Hornby (at Drake) location. I told the receptionist that I had a cracked tooth and they fit me in right away.
Their location is very easy to get to and is ground level. When I first arrived, the very friendly staff welcomed me while I sat in their stylish waiting area. My appointment was on time and very efficient! As I had no preference on my dentist, I was scheduled with Dr. D’Alfonso. She was fantastic! She kept me calm and involved while she discussed options. A very friendly dentist that won’t give you guilt trips or lectures. She assesses, discusses, then treats. All with a smile!
Unfortunately, I did need to have a root canal for my cracked tooth but the procedure was very quick. I sat back and watched a movie while they went to work. My whole appointment for the canal was two hours. That included freezing time, midway x-​rays, and the entire procedure. I’m waiting for my provider to approve the crown I need to receive but Aarm Dental submitted everything for me!
I’d recommend them to anyone needing a new dentist.
