World Salon

I adore Johanna. She’s been my hair person for ages. Unlike most hair-​stylists, she actually really listens and gives you what you ask for. She can advise if you ask her to, or simply take your request and make it fabulous. I appreciate the fact that World is environmentally conscious. Would recommend in a heartbeat.

So glad to find this salon! I travel a fair amount, and in Toronto about twice a year. I just needed a blow out. I read a lot of reviews from different sources and these guys looked the most promising. My hair is naturally very frizzy, curly and hard for me to do — not very attractive. When I get blow outs away from home, it seems to get frizzy after a day. This time it was great and stayed that way — even without using a bunch of products in it. Also, they could not be any nicer. I’m very happy!

Had an appointment and the staff member who was supposed to open the store was half and hour late. The hairdresser that did my hair was very nice and did a good job. The prices are ridiculously expensive though! There was nothing special about my blowout that was different from other salons I’ve been to for the price I paid here. For a wash, cut and blowout, it’s over $ 200+.
I wouldn’t come here again due to their overpriced services.
On a side note, it’s hard to tell you’re staring at a salon if you’re across the street or not too far away. The sign in the front could do with a lot of improvements. It was hard to tell

The energetic staff are very skilled and gifted artists without being presumptuous or elitist.
Gary cut my hair and it looked great and was easy to care for after the fact, loads of compliments followed me for weeks. Gary suggested the worldOCEAN spray to help hold my hair without harsh chemicals, it works great, I’m a believer!
Brian runs the place and is a committed eco leader, the place and the products are great!

I highly recommend Emily Stiebel at worldSALON. I keep my hair short and am always looking to do something new and edgy, and she is an absolute perfectionist when it comes to giving me a look that’s polished and sophisticated. Her prices are great ($ 40 for a cut!), and she’s very flexible when it comes to accomodating my schedule.

Love this salon! Gary consistently gives me a great cut every time and the staff in general are very helpful and friendly. Love that it’s an eco friendly salon on top of it.

My hairdresser Micah Terry just moved to this salon. Micah is an excellent colorist and stylist which is a rare combination. I will follow him anywhere he goes but I think this salon is a perfect fit for him. I had my first appointment this weekend. The vibe is relaxed and as previously commented by others, unpretentious. It was the owner’s birthday and the staff brought out cake which was nice to see. For those looking for a hairdresser, go see Micah. No one else is allowed to touch my hair.

It’s time for me to give this place the review it deserves!
This place has a great eco vibe to it. Unpretentious, woodsy, and natural. The owner is always there, and even though I don’t get him to cut my hair, I can tell he really cares about the work he does.
I get my hair cut with Emily who is a great stylist who really strives to do her best work each time. She’s very down to earth and easy to talk to. The last time she cut my hair, she did a dry cut that lasted forever. That is how I rate my haircuts, by how long they last, and this was the longest lasting haircut I ever had. I also got random compliments on it from both friends and people I barely knew. Very happy with her!
Another thing that keeps me coming back to this place is the World Salon brand shampoo they sell. I am the kind of person that wishes she could buy $ 5 shampoo and move on with my life, but I just can’t. If I buy drug store shampoo, after about a week of using it I look like I haven’t showered for weeks. It’s greasy and clumpy and the more I wash it, the worse it gets. Fortunately I have found World Salon shampoo because they cut all the garbage our of the shampoo and just leave the stuff that cleans your hair.
I have trouble with shampoo because it either is loaded with chemicals that build up in my hair, or I got to a health food place to get natural shampoo but it has tons of oils in it that are supposed to make it nice, but really just make it oily. World Salon shampoo has no parabens, sulphates, phthalates, fragrance, palm oil or gluten. Plus it doesn’t have all those «natural oils» that you seem to find in the health store shampoos that weigh it down.
You can also add different scents to it, or leave it unscented. My favourite one is the orange citrus. It’s about $ 28 fro 360mL and if you bring back your old bottle they knock a few dollars off the price.

I had my haircut done by Gary. They were doing a Studio 54 night & everyone was dressed up in costume & disco music was playing. I never had so much fun getting my haircut! I love that World Salon uses bullfrog power (eco-​friendly) & uses non-​toxic hair products (they have their own brand!). Plus the prices for a woman’s hair cut is reasonable. Of course if you want the magic fingers of head honcho Brian Phillips to touch your hair he is more pricey. :-) Though totally worth it I’m sure.

I contacted World Salon a year ago to make an appointment and no one ever got back to me so I ended up going somewhere else. Then a couple weeks ago I tried again to make an appointment (it’s so close to my house that I wanted to give it another shot). But again no one picked up the phone or returned my message. I guess they don’t want new customers. Not impressed.

The hair cut was good but $ 80 for a men’s haircut is ludicrous. For that price it’d have to be a fantastic cut, which it was not. Not recommended.

We’ve now begun to dye my hair funky colours and I couldn’t be happier with the results and the price. Tip: get a Live Green Toronto card and get 15% off your services at World!

I got a haircut with Yuka several weeks ago, though the process was pretty short for the whole wash, cut and style she was a pro.
Right away she pointed out that my hair was texturized and asked if I wanted it repeated. She then proceeded to give me a few pointers for shortening the blow dry process at home. This was super useful, as I’m trying to reduce the damage made on my hair on a regular basis. While I was pretty happy about my haircut, I’m wondering if the visit is worth repeating, compared to some other salons (see: Chura).
I loved that they are environmentally friendly through their sourcing of energy for water and electricity and that they use paraben-​free hair products.

I had my hair cut and styled here on a Friday evening with Yuka, who came recommended by a friend. I had a Groupon, and although my hair is not usually somewhere where I scrimp, World has a reputation of being a good salon. I have a bit of chemical sensitivity, meaning salons and nail places usually have me in fits after a while, and I was interested in World because of the commitment to avoid chemicals and fragrances etc. It was fantastic.
I have long and slightly wavy hair and Yuka did a fabulous job. She was polite, friendly and extremely talented. My cut is amazing, and I am really happy with it. Plus the location is great, right across from St. James cathedral.
My only issue was that they were 45 min behind schedule and I had to wait. I would have loved a call for a heads up. I was 10 min early so I had to wait almost an hour. Also no one called me in the days before my appointment for a reminder. That’s it, everything else was great.
I would definitely recommend Yuka.

World Salon is doing their part for the environment in a totally stylish way…
The great part about World Salon is that a girl never feels like she has just visited her mother’s small town 1950’s beauty parlor… after you leave you feel natural and beautiful but not at the expense of the planet! The salon goes the distance both in their commitment to the environment and their commitment to you!
(They heat their water with solar panels!) Pretty awesome by my standards.
If you have straight long hair like I do than Yuka Iwaseko should be your hair stylist. She is a wiz with the shears and doesn’t miss a thing. You will never end up at home with a strand longer than the rest!
