Best Chocolate croissant in the city. A staple on St. Clair West

I’d like to leave a zero rating if I could. This place has always been terrible. The food, coffee and the fat lady who owns it. I remember back during the major blackout in 2003 while people were hungry because they couldn’t cook food at home, world class bakers owners set up a propane BBQ in front of there store and sold tiny souvlaki skewers for $ 10 each! a major city emergency and they chose to exploit the situation and take advantage of people in need. Disgusting!

World Class… not so much. Toronto Class? Probably still too generous. St. Clair class? Maybe? Not really even the best bakery in a few block radius.
I came here for coffee when it was a cold and rainy day on my bike, and I’d been foiled by several full coffee shops/​bakeries nearby. I quickly learned why this one had free tables.
Coffee is on par with Tim’s/gas stations. You’re given a mug for self-​serve fill-​ups, but oddly enough refills cost the same as an original coffee and the mug isn’t that big. The staff couldn’t be bothered that several of the non-​flavoured coffee options were empty.
The bakery side is a miss as well… I think these must all come from some factory bakery somewhere. It’s definitely not made in house. My almond croissant tasted strongly of yeast, which is quite odd since croissants are made from puff pasty that contains no yeast. That’s always why there’s not that lovely buttery flavour that you expect from croissants… they used yeast instead. And yet it was oddly expensive… over $ 3 for one of the worst croissants I’ve ever had.
So, no, don’t go here gentle Unilocal reader. Mabel’s down the street will be much better. Even McDonald’s has better coffee.

World Class Bakers is very appealing shop as a bakery. It is a beautiful good looking bakery. I do not think they have tasty either pastries or coffee. Their latte is not good at all even though it is $ 2.00. However, the loaf of egg bread is pretty decent. It is not that expensive. They have comfortable seats and tables. The staff is pleasant. The bathroom is always clean. Overall it is a nice café to relax and chat. Regardless of taste of coffee and pastries, I like this place.

I moved to the neighbourhood just over three years ago and immediately tried WCB for a sandwich. Wrong move. The ham and tomato sandwich was too salty and inedible. So, I decided not again but opted for the baked goods which are over priced and rather ho hum. They do make an excellent Spanakopita although it can be very greasy.
I now buy their breads. I have them sliced but noticed, three years ago, that not all of the loaves were sliced leaving chunks four or five slices thick. I pointed this out to the owner who said they had tried everything to fix it. This has been going on for three years
Today, I bought a whole wheat loaf and had it sliced and again there were large chunks. Again I pointed it out to the owner who asked me why I always complain and tried to take the loaf out of my hands. She is quick to become angry and verbally abusive. She wanted to know why I kept coming back and I replied that in spite of her negative customer service, I still like the bread! She told me to have a nice day in a very sarcastic manner.
Do you have a horror story to tell about this woman?

If you love cheesecake, this is the place to go. I am very picky about my cheesecake and the last place I had decent cheesecake was in Brooklyn, so to find a place in Toronto puts a smile on my face. I like cheesecake rich, dense and flavourful with a good crust and you will get this here, also the strawberries on top are always fresh and are not coated in too much sugar and the piece itself is a very good, large portion. Their chocolate cheesecake is super delicious too, but be aware, it sells out fast. I have not tried anything else here, this is strictly a cheesecake rating!

I thought I would try this place because there’s always people in the window and because I read the reviews and found them too comical not to see for myself what this so called ogre lady is like. Well the two stars is for the classical music they play and the nice people watching through the large windows and it’s nice and bright. The meal was the classic breakfast. For those who like baby potatoes it’s a dream. The eggs were so greasy I guess I can’t complain because I hear it helps after a night of drinking gin. I asked for tomatoes instead of home fries which he majority of places doing including all small town places I’ve been but the lady gave me a hard side eye and a stiff lip and told the girl she should know they don’t modify. Poor girl gave me a sad sympathetic look. It was me giving her the look later. The lady who is the owner everyone talks about was yelling at staff and talking about how she needs alcohol to get through her days. He pastries don’t look all that special and they have pastries sitting uncovered next to the cash register which seems unsanitary and people coughing onto them. Baguette with the breakfast was delicious and overly buttery which was fine by me. It seems like a great deal that you get lattes for $ 2 everyday compared to the almost $ 4 at pain perdu down the street. Also you must pay at cash register first then go pick your order up when she shouts your name. Remember CASH ONLY for payment and I have no idea where an ATM is. They are told to have free wifi but wasn’t working for me. Lady of course told me to figure it out like I’m new to the connecting to wifi business. Anywho the breads look great !

My friends and I used to come to this place once in a while for an afternoon coffee and a slice of pie. Well, we wouldn’t be returning, as the owner’s rude behaviour made us feel unwelcome there. The owner (or, perhaps, the manager, as her position was difficult to ascertain) keeps company with the noisy ill-​mannered types that appear to frequent this café, allows them to disturb other customers, and acts protectively and outright rudely when they express dissatisfaction. Too bad for this person and her establishment; there are plenty of other decent cafes in the vicinity.

Food is decent BUT very over priced for the minuscule portion you receive. Staff was not friendly at all.

Had a comfy coffee and snack here after a run. Surprisingly not busy on a Sunday although it was rainy out. The best part of my experience was Kate who provided a very friendly experience even when I had shown up with only a debit card (they only take cash) — she allowed me to enjoy my coffee now before going to a nearby bank to take out some cash. I hear a lot of grumbling in the other reviews about the lack of credit and debit Terminal here and the exploitative no-​name ATM; it seems to have prompted the management and employees to be a bit more accommodating when people show up with only plastic and no cash.
Because of the good service I’ll be back to try more foods.

I would’ve given two stars but the owner is so horrible that I took a star off.
Food is decent, the bakery selection are only so-​so (croissants are doughy and greasy) but the cash-​only policy is ridiculous and makes me not want to patronize them. The nail in the coffin is that horrible woman. Anyone who hasn’t found her offensive is hearing-​impaired, or has had the good fortune to be there when she’s not. She is so rude and miserable.
If you don’t take debit than don’t make a profit off the ATM machine you so conveniently provide for $ 1.50 per transaction. How about just charging $.25 at the till like millions of other stores?

Sorry but the dessert here are pretty bad. I got a cheesecake dessert and a coffee dessert. Both were small but tasted horrible. They weren’t cheap either. This place only takes cash too. Bakeries are a plenty in this neighbourhood. Don’t make the same mistake I did. Go elsewhere.

Good little spot to grab a coffee or pastry. World class bakers is located across the Starbucks on St Clair and also claims to have Seattle’s best coffee which is pretty funny. The place itself is rather large and they offer lots of different pastries, desserts, and beverages. They even have about table in the back of you’re hungry.
I just got the caramel latte while my buddy got a lemon tart and iced coffee. Nothing too spectacular but it is a nice spot to relax and grab drinks. They have homemade lemonade and gelato too if you’re looking to cool down. Especially in this heat.

Cute place to grab a casual quick bite in… tried their tiramisu cake as well as their apple tart. They weren’t bad, but definitely not the best. But for the price, it was fine. They had tons of cookies and cake varieties!

I have lived in the neighbourhood and I work in the are as well. I wanted to have something to eat and get some work done before I start work in a few hours. I brought my own tea bag into the restaurant and I some eggs to eat for brunch, and the owner (I’m guessing) happen to see me reusing the tea bag that i brought from outside. She snapped and asked me to throw it away, and if not just to take my business somewhere else! aha!
I am the type of person who likes to support local businesses, I just happen to bring my reused tea bag from Tim hortons, (I don’t need to buy another tea, if I do not need to) Regardless, of the tea and my $ 6.75 dollar purchase of the eggs, she wanted me to go!
I found very absurd hearing this from the owner, she told me there’s no outside beverages allowed, but I didn’t see the sign posted on the wall or anything. I feel really sad for the owner, she should not be in this industry with that kind of attitude and service she gave me today.
Good food, and pastries. The girl at the cash was very friendly though. However, awful experience coming the (I’m guessing) owner (n) :/​veryyyyy baddddddd

I was craving a croissant and wandered into World Class Bakers.
It was a Saturday afternoon and the place was busy with customers having lunch.
They have hot meals and offer breakfast as well.
The croissants are rumored to be baked hourly!
It was crispy, not as buttery, but indeed fresh.
They had a large selection of cakes and treats.
The large cakes looked fabulous and one covered with fresh strawberries caught my eye.
If you are looking for tarts, cakelets, and squares, they have some gluten-​free options as well.
Next time, I will have to pop in for a meal… and maybe one of the tarts. :)

I stopped coming here a while ago because the coffee and the service was lousy. I stopped in for breakfast. Not very good.
The bacon is terrible, i didn’t eat it, which is extremely rare that i leave any of piggy behind. How the hell you screw up bacon, i don’t know. Potatoes are super salty. I was served two tiny pieces of toast, which is strange considering this is a bakery. Coffee is still terrible. They may be a good bakery, but the food is served cafeteria style, and not very good.
I’ve eaten breakfasts across the city, and this is one of the worst. Service was a little more pleasant this time.

I have been going to this spot, on and off, over the last four years I have lived in this neighbourhood.
The ladies behind the counter can be a bit brisk in their customer service but I believe this is just due to the fact they are very busy.
Monday to Thursday (I believe) they do an early bird special for breakfast, which I have always found to be tasty.
Their coffee is awesome, freshly brewed and fair trade — I love the vanilla kind.
Last time I went with my boyfriend, I couldn’t decide on which treat so I ordered us an almond croissant, jam filled sugar cookie with a star on top, and a Smarties cookie to share. Everything was very tasty and it was an enjoyable time.
They also have a hot table as well, everything always looks so tasty! You can even order large cakes and pick up breads of various kinds here too.
Cash only y’all but there is an ATM inside.

This spot has a nice hot table with a surprisingly good veal sandwich. Surprising, since I think that’s more of a lunch spot and this was 6pm. They also have free wifi and the prices were quite good.

The pastries are definitely good. The atmosphere is alright, but not quite as cozy as I’d like for it to be a regular café for me. Nice to get away from the usual Starbucks so it was different and a good experience, but it’s not that warm and cozy.
The prices are fine, there’s wifi and a big window, which is nice. Over all it was a good experience.
