Woof & Shloof is an eco-friendly, grooming, daycare and dog training company located at Bathurst & St. Clair in Toronto. Our 2,200 square foot, first class facility is cage free and architected entirely from the dog’s point of view. We’re unique because we focus on connecting to dogs with simple, non-verbal methods that every creature in the animal kingdom understands.

History

Established in 2010.

I used to think it sounded silly to ‘follow your heart’… so isn’t it funny that I’m the one who now dishes this advice out as often as I can.

18 months ago I arrived at work only to discover that RIM had bought our company. It was bitter sweet because I had played a supporting role in building it from the beginning, but suddenly it was now time to pack up and move on. While I was waiting to catch the subway home that day I realized that the next chapter in my life needed to be something that would bring me joy. It would be purposeful. It would draw from the unique talents that only I have, and it would allow me to serve my community.

By the time I got off the subway I had already conceptualized Woof & Shloof.

I spent the next few months sketching out the rough ideas and putting those ideas into action. I promised myself to stay open minded to suggestions from my family, community and my customers. All of this has allowed Woof & Shloof to evolve into what it is today.

Business Owner

Jesse was practically raised by a sheep dog from the moment he was brought into this world. Growing up, he was surrounded by dogs and cats… he even spent a few summers working closely with horses.

Jesse believes firmly in the principles of present moment living and non-harming, and he incorporates them into his philosophy of training and caring for dogs. He’s skillful at connecting to dogs through energy, touch and non-verbal communication signals.

Got my phone number wrong even after confirming it on the phone and upon arrival. Had to call back several times before I got a answer to find out what was going on. The cut was fine but when they handed my puppy to me, they hadn’t brushed out the fur they cut so I had huge globs of fur all over me. Similarly, my dogs nails are clear and very easy to cut; they hit the quick on two nails. The entire point of the appointment was to find out how she did with a groomer and other dogs, but I had to probe for any information at all from the front desk to find out how she had done. I will not be returning!

This was the worst dog grooming experience ever my dog is now traumatized and is afraid of getting groomed thanks to this business!
The first time I was lead to believe my dog was in good hands but they cut my poor Maltese’s ear to the point that she would yell with fear and pain because she was suffering.
I was NEVER told of this incident most of the time if the dog is moving or not cooperating the groomer will tell you of the accident which had occurred but I was lead to believe all was good and dandy. I was wrong.
Then I thought to myself, perhaps it’s a one time thing and sometimes with many dogs it’s easily overlooked but this is not the case.
I gave this business the benefit of the doubt, and took my dog back after two years.
The experience was even WORSE! My dogs nails were clipped so close to the flesh there was blood everywhere and she was limping in pain!
I will NEVER return to this place until they find real professionals who know what they are doing and who ACTUALLY care about my pets well being!

The owner is a very nice man. That is the only reason I’m giving 2 stars. Unfortunately being nice doesn’t translate into a good grooming experience. We can all imagine the possible horrors that our pets may go through behind closed doors when we aren’t there. Establishments like this perpetuate those fears.
We got a recommendation from a friend to go to woof and shloof because they had a good experience. Apparently there is more than one groomer employed at this establishment and they must be polar opposites.
We brought our dog here to have a spring cut. They told us he needed to be shaved. We accepted that.
4 hours later when we returned we found our dog to be traumatized. He had been shaved so short that u could see his skin clearly. It was patchy and uneven. He had cuts all over his body in particular in his arm pits that were bloody and raw. He also had an entire toe nail ripped off while they were being clipped. They had forcefully pulled the hair out of his ears and demonstrated this for us when we came to pick him up to our horror. His ears were so raw and red that he couldn’t lay down and sleep on his side like he always does for days.
When we got home and realized our dog was actually hurt we complained. They offered to reimburse the cost of the grooming and never did.
This is all evidence of a rushed and careless job that took 4 hours? I would not recommend you take your dog here if you care about their well being.

Meh, I’ve tried twice to be a customer here. Both times, I’ve been left with a bad taste in my mouth. The first time was a year ago to seek out some training for my dog. I didn’t like it the moment I went in. The guy I spoke with seemed a little greasy yet not so knowledgeable about my training concerns. I left without signing up for anything. Recently, wanting to support a local business, I tried calling in to get an estimate for a dog groom. I got the somewhat high estimate, (to be fair, this was a sight-unseen estimate) and when I said ok thanks, the guy I spoke with actually snorted into the phone and laughed. Wtf? What Can I say? Weird vibe… seems like a Mickey mouse operation to me. I won’t go back.

Just another hoax «trainer» with no education or certification. Claims to be a positive trainer, but jabs dogs in the neck a la Cesar Millan (see YouTube videos), thinks that «energy» heals and rehabilitates dogs.
No intelligent, educated, certified trainer would take on aggression cases and put the following into a contract: «I further realize that the energy that I project will directly influence my leadership ability over my dog.»
No positive trainer would focus on leadership/dominance or even use the word «discipline». He learned everything he knows from a couple TV shows.
I wouldn’t trust my pet rock here. I used them once for daycare and grooming and found that the experience was horrible and perfectly in-line with my colleague’s experience except that I didn’t get the wrong dog back at the end of the daycare day, luckily. My dog was intimidated a few too many times by the owner so I leashed her up and left, wishing I hadn’t spent my money there.
Anyone with a background in psychology, animal behaviour or learning theory would know that this guy is just another hoax. If someone is going to train my dog, it’s going to be someone who has actual education in the field. I’m not hiring a self-made lawyer or doctor so why would I trust a self-made «trainer» with my best friend?
Anyone can hang a sign that says «trainer» and it goes to show. No trainer would ever throw food to a group of dogs like they’re chickens (see YouTube videos) as they would have studied the dangers of food possessiveness and know the likelihood of a fight.
Before you try this place out, ask what formal education he has and then follow up with those sources to make sure it’s true. My trainer has certification and a degree in animal behaviour and I can only hope that others will research the profession. It’s not enough to *love* dogs and to have passion. «Energy» just doesn’t cut it. Show me science.

I have to say Woof & Shloof is definitely a 5 tails waggin’ spot. I have had dogs for years and dealt with various groomers and pet care people and Woof & Shloof has them all beat hands down. I found them after a clipping disaster with my English Cocker and they were able to make Oliver a handsome pup again. You know you’ve found a great place to bring your canine companion when you are greeted by a band of wagging tails and a smiling face. These people love dogs and it shows. Even after you have come and picked up your furry friend, you find yourself hanging around and chatting with Jesse. He is always helpful and full of great advise. They offer day care, grooming, at very competitive rates and have a great series of training videos on Youtube to help you when you get your dog home. I have nothing but praise for Woof & Shloof and I know Oliver can’t wait for me to drop him off again.
