Wagamama Pastries & Cafe

I enjoy the kale salad and Rooibos tea here. They seem to sell out of the corn bread early in the day.

Wagamama Pastries & café had a good reputation for their cheese cakes and I went there. They said they did not have the cheese cake anymore because they do not have the chef. It was disappointing. They did not have many kinds of pastries at that time. They had good coffee and there were many seat to relax.

They have a long list of amazing teas! Blueberry tea, I haven’t seen that too often.
This is a very little café, no wifi –which makes this place a coffee-​date-​only place. You won’t ever get the students hogging all the tables for hours!
Fresh pastries, latte, and abundance of tea flavours. Can’t go wrong :)
I wish they’d ask if we’re sitting or if we’re getting to-​go, because I’d hate to sit there with my paper cup. Less garbage = good!
(maybe they’re too lazy to wash the dishes? save water = equally good!)

Delicious baked goods, fresh baked bread for their sandwiches baked in house daily. Great coffee and lattes and such a warm and cozy environment. The owners are great, they chat with you when they can and are just friendly and kind people. They have a great Potatoe and leek soup on Tuesdays. You also have the option of ordering half a sandwich/​soup or just a combo of both.

Unlike many newer bakeries and patisseries that seem to follow the same, boring formula (i.e., either faux rustic or shiny modern), this shop feels genuine and authentic. It’s a breath of fresh air! The atmosphere is chill and the prices are very reasonable.
They make mouth-​watering croissants, as well as delicious homestyle soups and sandwiches. I used to be hooked on their ham and cheese brioche pinwheels but haven’t seen them lately… It might be because I’ve been sleeping in and they often sell out. They have a well-​deserved and very loyal following in the neighbourhood.

I live close to Wagamama and they have a nice following in the neighborhood — food good reason. This small and quaint pastry shop make one helluva croissant. Crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle, it’s sometimes the reason I get up early at all on the weekend, because one in a while their best one — the almond croissant — will sell out before 11am. They also offer plain, chocolate, and breakfast sandwiches as well.
The other item I get is the pecan cinnamon bun. Gooey, sticky and crunch at the same time, although they don’t make it regularly and when I do see it I grab it for my husband and I. I usually get one of the two with a cup of their homemade chai.
I’ve also had their cookies and their cakes (they have an early grey mousse), which are delicious as well. They offer gluten free muffins as well, although I have never tried. You can pre-​order and buy whole cakes from them, and the price is reasonable.
The reason I’m giving 4 stars is because it can be slow, and 50% of the time staff can be a little cold. It’s a small and busy shop, sometimes when I get there there’d be a 5 people lineup and 1 person working the register, drinks and food. Granted, I’ve never seen someone complain about it (as most people that go there are regulars), and once you get up there they give you their undivided attention. All in all I would still go back for their baked goods.
Update 2015 — They have since either changed their croissant recipe or got a new supplier, and it’s very disappointing. Instead of almond paste filling, it’s chocolate filling and the croissants are flat and oily. I don’t go there anymore. Sorry, Wagamama. You had a good thing and you missed the mark.

Nice little bakery/​café with outdoor seating for the summer. Independent, local company and am glad to support them versus a chain when we head out this way for coffee and baked goods.
We had the pecan cinnamon buns — AMAZING! So many pecans and so delicious. Coffee options were fantastic as well, so glad to have the option of a few different blends.
Staff were pleasant, helpful and continued to chat with us even once we received our order. So refreshing to be somewhere that you can tell the staff enjoy their job!
As a side note: I have worked in the service industry for years and I am glad to hear from another review that if you are not treating the staff with respect that they will let you know. Also, as they are such a small spot, I am also glad to hear that they are not handing out «free samples» as this helps to keep their operation costs low, which allows them to keep their spot open and/​or prices from skyrocketing.

I love this place.
The food is amazing, from the salads to the sandwiches and the delicious baked goods! The homemade soups are the best. A fresh one daily!
Prices are shocking as they are so reasonable.

Small and cute place. I walked in and saw a lineup of cookies. Sold! I tried one of every cookie they had, six at the time. They had green tea cookies, double chocolate and a few other out of the ordinary cookie flavours. These cookies were quite impressive! I will be back to sample more of their baked goods!

I love this place!!! It’s a very charming café with a great vibe! I’m going here every Sunday after my morning run to get a large soy latte, which is always very good. Also bought the homemade strawberry jam a couple of weeks ago and — omg — it’s amazingly delicious! Actually tastes like fruit instead of sugar!
I love that everything is homemade! They even have gluten free pastries like muffins and mini cupcakes. However, if you are gluten intolerant like I am, you might want to be careful about the pastry. It kind of depends on your level of sensitivity… the muffins are very good, but unfortunately not gluten free enough for me.
Still, definitely recommend Wagamama!

Wagamama has great baked goods! I was suckered into buying one of their Apple Crumble Muffins, after trying a sample they had left out. It was such a large and moist muffin — so delicious! I also had their matcha tea latte, which I admit does not taste nearly as good as Starbucks. Still, this café has a wide assortment of baked goods from more unique or healthy options.
They also serve a hardy sandwich. I really enjoyed their roast beef sandwich, which had stacks of roast beef (great generous portion) as well as a unique wasabi-​like sauce. Half of their sandwich made for a filling lunch. They also have daily soups, which nicely compliment their sandwiches.
I’d recommend Wagamama for a much needed pick-​me-​up!

As if there wasn’t enough to love about Wagamama they now have green smoothies! So delicious and refreshing. Awesome sandwiches and muffins. Well done.

We have been catering mainly deserts for work functions from Wagamama for close to a year now and are very happy with the quality of food and more importantly service being provided.
If you are in the king west area and want to support a local family owned business, it doesn’t get much better than Wagamama!!!

I went in for lunch with a friend, the food was reasonably priced and pretty decent. After finishing lunch, my friend and got a hot beverage on our way out and that’s where, much to my surprise, the person I assume was either the owner or the shift manager approached me and told me that I gave him attitude earlier (while paying for lunch) and that I shouldn’t do that. He was extremely verbally aggressive and told me to «piss off». I will personally never go back as this is no way to treat anyone, whether he felt justified to do so or not. Even more so when people bring in business. Worst customer service I have ever seen.
Update: here are not one, but two «compliments» I received from the same person (Bob’s Y.) in response to my review.

I pass Wagamama everyday on my way to work, and I’m so glad I randomly went in! Great, reasonably priced coffee in a hipster area without the hipster attitude. I hate when you get a latte and can only taste the milk. You don’t have to worry about that here.
Personally, I love the «Mom and Pop» shop feel to this place. Unpretentious and inviting. You can tell they have regulars and the café owner knows them by name and order. They also make all their baked goods from scratch. I’ve only had their cheese biscuits, but they were delicious warmed with a little butter. A great start to the day.

One of the best (if not the best) coffee shops in the area.
Coffee is good, pastries are great, staff is friendly and polite. I visit about once a week but wish I went more often. Croissants are always good, something I definitely recommend and I really dig their Americanos.

I have Wagamama bookmarked for the longest time, but never have a chance to pay a visit!
After my brunch at Beast. I walked past Wagamama without realizing. until I was waiting for the Streetcar which took forever to come then I thinking oh a Coffee shop. Wagamama? why it sounded so familiar?
Really simple and homey interior. Most of the patrons here seems like regulars on this rainy, snowy, windy Mid April.
All the pastries and sandwiches looked good. but I just could not take my eyes off the little mini cookies in the cookies jar. (BTW, they do resemble dog treats!)
Sesame/​Almond Chocolate Cookies for 30 cents each
— They are on the smallish size. but great as treats or if you are on a diet. and don’t want to over indulge

So if you still hungry after having brunch at Beast, Wagamama’s croissants and other pastries would definitely makes your Sunday complete!

I am and will always be a fan of King Street. Last summer I started exploring this street as it has a myriad of cafes and restaurants. Being a Japanese speaker, the name Wagamama caught my eye as it means «whiner, complainer etc.»
It’s hidden and the second time around I had to look closely to find it.
The pastries were delicious each time I went — especially the croissants. In addition, the lattes aren’t too bad. The staff are all quite pleasant and it’s a nice quiet place to do work or read a book. Although I have never gone during lunch, a friend of mine who works close by has. He has nothing but good things to say about their soups.
Quantity is limited so I would recommend coming here as early as possible. :]
