I am using uber for all my hospital appointments. Yesterday I was supposed to go to Princess Margaret on Mutual St in Toronto. What a mess. Uber picks me up and drops me at Mount Sinai instead of Princess Margaret. I can only walk a few steps and use a cane. I had to walk from Mount Sinai to Princess Margaret. Then on the way home, the Uber driver again does not come to Princess Margaret but goes to Mount Sinai. Since I was not there he cancels the run. I get charged over $5 for his mistake. Then he comes to Princess Margaret and takes me home after I enter the pick up again. Mount Sinai is 600 Mutual. Princess Margaret is 60 Mutual. Maybe the drivers should follow proper directions? I don't know but I might switch back to taxi.

My Über drive got lost 4 times, He couldn’t even find me to pick me up… that should have been the first and last sign. should have cancelled right then… but I didn’t. He took me to the air cargo area of the Toronto airport instead of the terminal. I told him that he was going the wrong way and he insisted on using the GPS. Once he finally turned around, he insisted on using his GPS again and missed the airport exit! He turned off the freeway looking for a way back and got lost again. He finally found another sign for the airport. This 29 minute ride turned into 55 minutes. Had he just followed the HUGE airport signs I would have made my flight. This mistake cost me a $ 200 flight change and a $ 157.07 hotel charge. Not to mention I was suppose to be at work this morning in Dallas. I use Über all the time and I am usually very happy with the service. Very surprised that one of your drivers doesn’t know how to get to a major airport or know how to read simple street signs.

Über is a great way to get around! Very professional and friendly drivers! Also like the option to share my ride with others, so it’s cheaper!

I don’t really know why Über, a hugely-​successful $ 68 billion valuation company, really needs a Unilocal review, but I got some time to kill so here’s my opinion of it.
I was first introduced to Über two years ago in San Francisco and absolutely fell in love. It is the most convenient service for tourists especially because you don’t necessarily know where you are at all times and a cab might be hard to hail down — not to mention you might be in a sketchy neighbourhood. I’ve had so many bad experienced with cab drivers — from purposely taking longer routes, constantly talking on their Bluetooth headphone, never wanting to accept credit card, adding an illegal surcharge when there’s a big crowd — that I just got fed up with them. When I saw the Über app pop up in Toronto I immediately got on board and told all my friends to get it.
Initially Toronto only offered an Über Taxi service which are basically Taxi drivers who use über to get customers. It is about 10% more to use than just hailing a cab but the MOST important aspect of Über for me wasn’t the price, it was that I could give feedback. If the cab driver took the long route, I could file a complaint through the app and it would often get responded to in less than 1 hour, with Über always taking my side. I’ll also never get paired with the driver again, so the system will filter out all the bad drivers away from me, and if the driver dips below a certain threshold, will be banned from the system for being a lousy driver.
That kind of monitoring system doesn’t happen among cab drivers. I filed a formal complaint against them and the city official called me to ask me if I wanted to go to court for it. That’s a lot of work for me to file a complaint, I just want the taxi driver to not be an asshole, but I have to go through the long and arduous legal system for that? I’ll just use Über.
UberX came along which cheapened the prices of car service (only $ 35 from downtown core to airport by cab!!) but at the same time the system did get filled with terrible drivers trying to make quick bucks. Make sure you give bad ratings to bad drivers — do everyone a favour. Über drivers should know their major routes, if they don’t know Yonge St. or Bay St., they need to familiarize themselves with the major roads in Toronto before signing on to becoming a driver in the city. Yes they have a navigation system, but they also should know their basic roads in case the GPS doesn’t function properly. File a complaint if the car is dirty, or if the car is old, or if the license plate on the app doesn’t match the car — we need to work together as a team to weed out the bad drivers to make sure we are only left with the good ones.
Because UberX is fairly new to Toronto (~1−2 years), the system still needs time to filter bad drivers out. Give it some time and then you’ll get your good-​quality über drivers that you typically will always get in San Francisco or New York, which have had Über for a longer period. While I’ve had my fair share of poor UberX drivers, I’ve had way more bad encounters with cab drivers. I also know that bad drivers will eventually fall out of the Über system but bad cab drivers will likely continue on with no repercussions. For these reasons, I fully support Über and hope to continue to see them persevere and overcome their legal battles all over the world. With $ 68 billion dollars, I’m sure they can do it.

This review is only for their delivery. When I visited the restaurant, the food was great. Tonight I ordered delivery through UberEats, and what a disappointment! Delivery was late (30 mins!), And the food was cold, soggy and the portions tiny. $ 13 + tax + delivery. When I visited I got double this. Sticking to lunch & UberX.

I was never disappointed by Über. I love the fact that you can see a fare estimate even before you order your ride. I mean, I heard so many times before «you will have to pay what the meter say, I cannot give you an estimate.» I also like that you can choose the car and even review the ratings for your driver. And, unlike the taxi drivers, all the über drivers I met so far were nice and friendly. I also like that the ride is quiet, I could not find anything negative for Über yet.

I’ve only rode an Über in San Fran and it was a pretty awesome experience because we literally were able to call a cab from our phones and have it at the door within 15 seconds. I come from Hong Kong, where there are plenty of taxis on the street already and I understand how annoying it is to stand on the curb and wait for a taxi to come close to you, in addition to having the impolite people who run and try to steal your taxi even though you were already waiting for one for a good fifteen minutes.
In San Fran, we were able to compare the Über prices with another company called Lyft, so the Surge prices didn’t really affect us, because when it was Surge, we would just revert to Lyft. The Über app was pretty useful, because you can see where and who the driver is and see the route that the driver is taking to your destination, making sure that he or she is not driving you in circles if you are new to the area to earn more money as some taxi drivers do. In addition, the estimation for Über app is really accurate, out of all the times we took it, it has never been out of the range.
Of course, there’s always the issue with insurance and whatnot and obviously that’s something the government should decide; to take out the insurance fee for all taxi drivers or enforce the insurance fee for all Über drivers. I don’t want to take a standpoint on this topic, but I definitely recommend trying out Über because of all the reasons I have listed.

We weren’t sure what to expect from our first Über ride. My employer registered and told employees to use the service for work functions and I’m glad we did.
Car was immaculate and driver was very friendly. He explained the service and I asked a number of questions which he answered very promptly.
Paying with the app is so easy. Ordering the car and Driver was also simple and he arrived on time in 4 minutes.
We will use this service again. Thanks Über for a worry free ride in an awesome vehicle with a driver that is happy to chat.

For our end of the year celebration with friends, we decided to leave the car at home and Über it for the first time.
The app was easy to download and use and the drivers showed up right on time when they said they would. Both rides to and from home were very pleasant in clean cars with drivers who were polite and willing to engage in small talk.
I was a bit concerned about the availability of cars as we live out in the Suburbs and that proved to be a non-​issue. When we ordered our car for pick up from our home, the driver arrived in 5 minutes flat. Very impressive. On the way home, it was 6 minutes for the driver to get us from Woodbine & 14^th at 3 a.m. Very impressive indeed.
We used the UberX which was the most economical option and to get us from the edge of Scarborough/​Pickering up to Markham (Woodbine and Steeles) cost us just under $ 30 for one way.
Our first Über experience was a very good one and we would definitely use Über again! I hope they stay around for a long time.

I sometimes forget that you can literally review anything on Unilocal!UBER is one of the most amazing transportation services I have ever used and continue to use it whenever I can.
I find it interesting from reading all the different reviews, as they range from worst to best, but I find it hard to believe some of the one star reviews, as none of my experiences were like that…
Now, in reality, I don’t use UBER all that much considering I live in the suburbs and have my own car. However, I like using it whenever I head downtown, as I don’t have to drive, find parking, and pay a lot of a cab. I usually take an UBER from the subway station to my location if it isn’t directly on the subway line.
All the drivers have been super nice and friendly. I haven’t had any bad experienced with UBER. Even when some of the drivers weren’t the greatest at driving, UBER themselves quickly resolved the issue with excellent customer service. I only gave feedback on one trip when I felt the driver went way slower than was necessary, and they gave me back some money. Now if that’s not good customer service, I don’t know what is!
Most of the drivers also do this as extra cash on the side, so I find they are usually in better moods that cab drivers. With the rating system, you can always drop a trip if you want a better driver too.
UBER has an excellent array of services too. I know they do the lunch delivery if you’re in the downtown core, and even some special events for occasions. The ride prices may hike up at peak hours, but they always give you a warning beforehand, and give you the option of notifying you when the peak hours die down. FYI: if you aren’t in a hurry, just wait!
I love UBER, and always use it whenever I’m in the downtown area to help me get around. Of course, I also use it with a group of friends to increase safety, so maybe keep that in mind when you use the service.

I’m reading all these one star reviews (even the not recommended ones!) and honestly, I’m like. boooo, suck it up! OF COURSE there’s surge pricing in times of need! It’s a basic business concept of when demand is high, prices get higher. OF COURSE some drivers are unsafe– I’m sure we all have been at one point. But to give it a 1 star for this amazing service? You’ve got to be kidding me.
I really enjoy über, definitely over taxis anyday. The start rate is cheap and they always give you a fare estimate before you go– if it’s not in your budget, then don’t get in! Simple. I cannot even begin to stress how many times a taxi driver has left me feeling uncomfortable, has left me stranded OR has the nerve to overcharge me 3x of what they promised before I got in. I cannot stand taxis and I will never take one as long as über is around. Have you never driven downtown on a narrow street just to have a taxi cut you off last minute, creating an abundance of swear words bursting from your mouth? Because same. 90% of the ubers I’ve been in have been safe, or relatively safe, considering where we are driving. Never have I felt like my life was in danger. the worst I’ve ever felt was «oh shit, he’s gonna scratch his mirror if he inches any closer to that other car” — which is not my problem, because it’s his insurance. For the person who said the über driver was lying to him about using his personal insurance, he’s NOT. Über contracts drivers, with a clean driving record & insurance and all they do is pay them– everything else is up to the driver. Learn your facts before giving a service/​company a low rating.
Ubers are cheap, especially if you need to get places downtown (hell nah, I am NOT sticking myself in those sardines-​in-​a-​can ttc busses) If you have a bunch of people, a ride is literally $ 2 – 4 each from one side of downtown to the other. They’re reliable and it’s great how they show you on the GPS where the driver is coming from + the license plate/​model of the car so you can easily locate your driver. They also have different options like über black, über XL, über eats, über carpool and now über WAV (which is wheelchair accessible vehicles!)

Über has saved me sooooo many times without denting my wallet it’s not even funny.

Open a ticket with their support and they will do the best they can, there is a thing called fare review and they would actually return you money if the driver took a longer route than he was supposed to.
Cars and Drivers:
The car can’t be older than 10 year, most of them are fairly new cars. Apart from only one bad driver that I have had (He was already at 3 stars, pretty sure he was terminated by über after my ratings), all the rest were really really good. Cars are usually very clean as they go through inspections every two week as I was told by an über driver.
They usually have water bottle for you and some even go as far as to have juices for their passengers. One driver even offered me to use his Aux cable (yay).
Conveniece (most important)
This is where über shines the most, just take out your cellphone, turn your gps on, open the app and request an über.
You can see the exact location where your über is, know the time it will get to you, see the photo of the driver, name of the car and have their number plate in case you need help recognizing the car. Once you’re in, put your destination address and THATS IT, nothing more needed from you, payment will go through your credit card.
This is unlike cabs, where i had to wait for 10 – 15 minutes sometime without any ETA on when will they show up.
PRICE:
MUCH CHEAPER than cabs, I used to pay $ 20 (with toll distance of 8km) on über, and with cab the same distance (without toll) would cost at least $ 27, talk about a fare difference.

Über is all over the news. It’s about time that I wrote a review for it.
OK I have to be honest, I always had my doubts. Getting in the car of a random person does not sound like a good idea. All that changed when a friend of mine sent me an invite for a free Über ride.
It was a late night. All bus routes are closed. I was about to do the unthinkable and call a cab, but my friend sent me an invite for Über. I downloaded the app and filled up my info. It was quick & easy. The app shows you all the available drivers around. One tap and within 2 minutes a super friendly human being (and I emphasize on human being!) arrived. He picked me up and dropped me off in a clean, fairly new car that did not smell like taxi. We had a great conversation throughout the ride. Total was around $ 10 which is pretty sweet but since this was my first ride it was FREE!
I would also like to add that Über saves me lots of money when I travel outside Toronto. I don’t have to deal with taxi drivers who seem to love taking advantage of tourists. Nor do I have to pay a hefty price for a car rental. I don’t have to worry about payment as it all happens online. I don’t have to carry cash with me when I’m in the hoods of Chicago or Atlanta.
Thank you Über for making our life so much better. I’m never taking a taxi or renting a car again, ever!

As a traveller from Calgary, I’ve used Über for all of my travel needs while in Toronto.
Honestly, it is so ridiculously painless to use the service (book a ride with the app, be able to see where your ride is and how far away, getting in and out without having to fumble around with cards or cash, being able to easy contact your driver) that I would gladly pay extra to ride with Über. Despite this, it is CONSIDERABLY cheaper to ride with Über than take a taxi! On top of that there is no awkward request for a trip when the driver did nothing except drive you to your destination (which is their job). What could be better?! These days it’s a no brainer to go with Über… it’s better in so many ways.

This is more a review of cabs, than Über. It’s like when you’ve been eating Hershey Chocolate all your life, and then you get a chance to try Lindt. It’s like, OHHHH wait Hershey chocolate is shit! You sort of realize, but you don’t fully realize…
I was a big defender of cabs. I was like, it’s so easy to just flag one down! And who wants to be in the back seat of a stranger’s car, that’s so creeeeepy!
But then, you start to think — instead of improving their services, why are cabbies just trying to get Über to abide by their rules? They should be thinking, isn’t it weird that people are willing to jump into unlicensed, unmarked cars versus taking a cab? Because if cabs stepped up their game — if this made them become friendlier, more efficient, have better route knowledge, have GPSes, clean their backseats — then I’d go back to them in a second. Hell, carry some bottled water or gum or something and I’m sure people would come back to you! But you just whine. You just whine and whine and whine. And I’ve taken three cabs in the past 3 months since I’ve started using Über. And they’ve all been terrible experiences, where the driver takes a shitty route, is too slow, won’t listen to my route suggestions, and does dangerous and stupid driving.
Is Über unsafe? I feel more safe in an Über ride than in a Taxi. There’s a record of me ordering the car, and if someone else orders me a car, they can watch the route I’m on home. Since you get to rate the driver at the end, you do get to actually give feedback about your experience (so far I’ve never had a bad experience, so I’ve had nothing to really comment on). When you flag a cab and jump in, there’s no record of you ever getting into that car — the other day I was in a cab, and the cabbie said he wasn’t even the driver, he was just taking over for his brother-​in-​law because he was away. We’ve all been there — cabbies no longer show their photo ID/​license, and you have no idea who it is driving you around.
Some additional comments: if your ride is surging, wait a few minutes and try again — don’t accept over 1.6 surge charge. The tracking system is basically crap, so don’t really go by where it says the car is in relation to you. Would be SO MUCH MORE HELPFUL if it told you the colour of the car — «honda civic» isn’t helpful! Especially when you don’t know cars, it’ll say a car to me and I’ll have NO idea what I’m looking for — keep in mind driver’s dont have your picture! so they dont know what you look like!

I’ve been using Über for awhile now, usually with friends, going home after a night on the town or going to an event. But in the last month I think I’ve used Über 5 times, which is a significant increase in use for me.
I avoid taxis like the plague. In fact I hate taxis. They are overpriced, the drivers are sketchy and rude and I never feel safe in them. When über came along, all that changed. The prices are so reasonable. The drivers are a bit chatty, especially the new ones, but they are extremely nice. And I have never felt uncomfortable or unsafe.
This service is a godsend. I do wish they offered more promos but even without, it’s nice to just request a vehicle, hop in when it arrives and hop out at the destination without the miserable struggle of finding cash or pulling out the card the machine accepts (debit/​credit) ESPECIALLY when you’re in a hurry!

I’ve never liked taking a cab in Toronto. They are over priced, dirty and rude would be the best description I could give.
Über has changed the game. It has never been a more pleasant experience to hire a car/​ride. Sometimes I will send an Über to pick up a client and have them brought to me. The client doesn’t have to pay, it gets charged directly to my credit card and the cars have always been quick, on time and respectable.
The last time I took a cab was just after the last huge fare increase a few years back. In conversation with the taxi driver he stated «we don’t care about you» now we make $ 100 or $ 200 real quick, half a tank of gas and we go home with a nice profit (real conversation, word for word). Arrogant and rude. I would like to meet that driver again and say «HA! Got cha back»! «We don’t care about you either».
Why the city is trying to block Über is beyond me. The people are voting with their dollars, leave this elite yet affordable service alone. We the people like this service. I know for City Counselors like Kristyn Wong-​Tam, she relies on votes from the unions to get elected. Gawd knows the people in her riding would never elect her and therefore she will never have the people interest at heart. She only supports the unions for votes. Like taxis, hopefully her days are number too… Lets stop putting these small minded thinking people in office.

After using Über the past few months my opinion has improved to give them another star.
I have been impressed with how many times I have requested an UberX (lowest price ride) and an Über Black premium car has showed up, since they have the choice to accept or decline UberX calls.
Also, hubby and I are in the market for a new car and while it is from the backseat and from driver reviews it has been a unique way to test drive cars we are interested in.
I know the city is trying to shut Über down but the Mayor is all for it… when friends ask me if I am worried about the drivers, I can honestly say on average they are much better than cabs and how often do you get into a taxi and the face on the license doesn’t match the driver?
The only reason I can’t give them 5 stars is sometime you get a driver that you can’t believe was screened, and their app sends drivers on routes that don’t take into account no left turns, lanes that aren’t really roads, etc, but as someone who drives, i know the route I would take and give the driver directions.

(@Uber_TOR) UBER has become an integral part of my life. The convenience of the service and the fact that I never have to stand outside waiting for a taxi is incredible. From my condo, on average, if I order and Über while in my unit, by the time I get to my lobby the Über is almost always already there and waiting.
What I also love is the variety of services. Most times I simply just use the taxi service, but when I want to make my dollars stretch a little I’ll try the UberX option which is pretty much just a regular Joe like you or I, who has been screened by Über and approved to accept fares.
For special occasions, there is nothing better than the feeling of ordering an Über Black car or Über SUV. The drivers treat you like a celebrity and many have little extras like candies, and water bottles to make your trip more enjoyable.
I think some people contemplate driving after a few drinks when it’s late at night because it can be so difficult to catch a cab. With Über you can order one and relax, you have your cars specific number, you see a picture of your driver and they see a picture of you. When your cab arrives, no one else can take your cab.
Lastly with regards to customer service, I have to say that the few times I’ve had a less than exceptional experience, or felt that the driver didn’t take an optimal route, I’ve sent an email to their customer response team and they’ve always been quick to respond and make amends for any issues — at the very least they’re quick to respond and acknowledge that something is up.

Used the car service two times in one night. Good and reliable experience both times. We had a bit issue locating our car. That was our very first time using Über and we did not know what a black car should look like. The second driver’s service was impressively outstanding. We were like riding a limousine! The driver came out and opened our doors and he was super friendly:) He gave me his name card. I should post his name card here if I find it!
The Über app let us see when our car was coming over near our location. My bf received a welcome credit when he registered for his Über account. Both drivers let us use our credit without hassle.
The Über customer service is prompt and I am very impressed. I am going to use my $ 30 first ride next time, and am happy to keep using Über whenever necessary. So far, I am very happy with the service!
