Toronto Animal Services South Shelter

Just adopted a stray from the TAS South Shelter and felt the whole process went smoothly and we got the best puppy around. He is happy and healthy and has been neutered and microchipped as well as had his first round of shots already. I saw him on the website and fell in love and, when I called, the woman on the phone gave me further information on our puppy. She even recommended we get down there soon because once people get off work there is a rush and he would be the first to go. Glad she told me that otherwise I would not have him today. So happy with him and highly recommend adopting from here. Other organizations can take weeks to finalize an adoption. Ours took very little time and we walked home with the sweetest puppy ever. Thanks for making it painless and enjoyable!

This place is fantastic.
When we first went to TAS back in November of last year, were super indecisive about which cat to bring home, and after our first visit, simply could not make up our minds. Although the staff were very patient with us bringing in our 5 year old daughter and wanting to see lots of kitties right around closing time– we just couldn’t pick one! All of our favourite cats were so sweet-​but also super obese! The staff were very straightforward about the extra vet costs of getting those older, overweight cats back to a good health, plus the additional dental work they would probably need, and encouraged us to take our time in deciding-​also saying a kitten would probably be a better choice for our daughter. Before a second visit, I spoke with a staff member on the phone, who personally went out of her way to find out if a kitten who was not even at the shelter anymore, and had been taken home temporarily by a volunteer, would be a good match for us.
In the end, we went back a second time a couple of weeks later, with my mom this time to help us bring a cat (we were determined to pick this time!) home. Again, we spent a very long time there, this time with a bunch of sprightly kittens, trying to pick our new family member out. As it turned out, he picked us, by being the only one who boldly climbed all over my daughter, wanting to be petted and loved.
Even then, as they were filling out the papers we had an ‘Oh wait… maybe this other one instead!” moment… they calmly started to redo the paperwork, before we decided… no, actually the first one again! God, just writing this all makes me wonder at these people’s tolerance… I even asked if such indecisiveness was normal and they frankly, but sweetly told me «no.» To top it all off, my mom decided to adopt the sister of our new little guy right then and there, even though she had had no prior thought of getting a cat herself. Well, all in all it worked out great. We both love our cats! They are the sweetest, most friendly and tolerant beings I’ve ever seen… So very trusting of humans and affectionate… it’s clear they must have been treated very well at the TAS.
As a bonus, they gave us little hand crocheted blankets to take home with our new cats. One thing… i recommend you bring your own cat carrier… They do give you cardboard ones, but on our drive home BOTH cats busted out of them and were loose in the car!

I love love love TAS-​South. I’ve always wanted a beagle, and so I kept looking at the website postings of dogs that they had at the shelter. A quick visit and one look at her and I knew I had to have her! We walked her around the Exhibition grounds and came back to the office to let them know we were definitely taking her.
The staff here is SO nice. Since we were dog newbies, they gave us some items to take home (a toy she played with, a blanket, and a crate since she was starting to crate train). And they really do care about their animals. I could tell the staff member we dealt with was a bit sad to see her go, but also happy to know that she had found her forever home.
Can’t say enough about this place. Adopt from shelters! Best dog ever.

We adopted our dog, Dottie, from TAS south and they were so friendly and thorough. Plus, TAS is such an essential service, they help people find their lost pets, take in surrenders, and help strays. This particular facility is really clean and lovely. They do amazing work. I gladly get my pets licensed each year knowing the money is going back to TAS and supporting such a great service!!!

After finally finding the shelter — lol — we not only had a wonderful experience in adopting our Charlie (the shelter had named her Carmen) but the staff were great. Very friendly and easygoing. I was an emotional mess when we were there because, if I could, I would take ALL the animals with us but my partner reminded me that we’re at least rescuing one… and she’s been an absolute joy.
Huge kudos to the staff at this shelter.

I just surrendered a very sick cat I found in a lane way over to the Toronto Animal Services South Region earlier this morning and was very impressed with how easy and professional the whole transaction was.
Other than trying to locate the place (had to get out and ask a CNE worker «which way to go?!?»), I have no complaints about Toronto Animal Services. I think they are doing GREAT work, and I don’t think I would be able to sleep at night without the help of them and other animal rescue centres.
The facilities were very clean (a caretaker was cleaning up the waiting room while I was there) and the staff were friendly. I did not visit any other part of the building, but based on the reception area’s cleanliness, I would assume that it was also clean and well taken care of.
I urge any and everybody who knows about a suffering or injured stray animal to surrender him or her to Toronto Animal Services so that it can have a second chance (or as a last resort, stop suffering).

I love toronto animal services!!! I just got my dog about 2 and a half months ago. They were easy to get along with, just fill out an application and I took my little babe home the same day. The facility was beautifully clean with a cat «bubble» for them to play in. The dogs are kept in the kennels in the back so you don’t have to force yourself down a narrow alley of jumping dogs (which personally, even as a dog lover, scares the crap outta me). The few staff I did meet were very kind, let me have alone time with my little guy before I took him home. Here’s the REAL KICKER! I got my little man for only $ 166.25 including taxes, for dog people you will know how much this means! This included neutering, vaccines, microchipping and a dog lisence. This would easily ring up a bill at the vets office of 400+ dollars, and I got it all done for the low-​low price of $ 170 bucks. They give you a short medical history of your pet so you can take it into the vet when your animal goes for a check up. I’m so happy with my little man he’s a great addition to our small family.

I visited this shelter to ‘browse’ and left with an adorable kitten. Note to self: impossible to browse kittens when you really want a kitten.
The staff here was helpful and the shelter was much cleaner and well maintained than others I have seen. They do adoptions for about 99 dollars, but mine was literally on sale for the month of june (!) and my kitten was a cool 30 bucks. They offer vouchers for spaying/​neutering and vaccines, and he was already dewormed, vaccinated, and surprisingly house-​trained at 9 weeks old. They provided a license, some wet and dry kitten food, and did this fabulously sci-​fi microchip implantation thing.
Bonus: they have dogs too, if you are into that sort of thing.
