The first day I walked into Toronto General, I thought some huge exciting event must be happening in the lobby. There seemed to be people everywhere! Turns out it was the line for Tim Hortons. Every morning at around 8am they line up 10+ deep to get their hands on some Tim’s. The staff are actually really efficient and zip through the line very quickly. I took a while to understand the whole double-double etc and I now know that I like my coffee with half milk. The donuts are nice(but most donuts are) and the Timbits help to drag you through difficult work days.(Trying to drag my skirt past my thighs after them is a far less pleasurable experience however). The low rating is for the coffee. I believe Tim Hortons are practicing a form of beverage homeopathy. The liquid they serve may, at one point, have encountered a coffee bean; but little evidence of it remains. It’s like hot dishwater with a bit of milk. If somebody gives it to me free I’ll generally drink it-fluids are good-but I don’t buy it unless I’m desperate. Just as well there’s a Starbucks a few metres away!
