Welcome to The S.P.A.C.E. — The School of Performing Arts for the Community of East York! We’re a full performing arts centre focused on building self-esteem. We encourage students to dream, challenge them to develop determination & perseverance along with technique, and give them the confidence both to get up on stage & perform, and to believe in themselves. Founded in 2004, The S.P.A.C.E. provides students a chance to learn from industry professionals in a warm, supportive atmosphere. Whether you’re serious about pursuing the arts, or just want to learn something new, the experience of our staff of qualified, trained, professional actors, dancers, and singers offers a unique and exciting opportunity to you & your family — the chance to learn about the world of performing from actual working performers.
History
Established in 2004.
The S.P.A.C.E. is now established as THE studio in East York for students to learn to dance, sing, and act from industry professionals in a warm and supportive atmosphere. As a professional actor, dancer, and singer, Owner and Artistic Director Linette Doherty has had the opportunity to work with tap legends such as Savion Glover and the late Gregory Hines, and danced across Ontario with both Ballet Creole and Kalimba Kalimba. She has performed on stage; on film and television; on the radio — notably in the CBC Radio production of Rush Home Road; and on the Original Cast Recording of We Will Not Forget. It is this experience that she offers to families in East York — the chance to learn about the world of performing from actual working performers. Linette and her team of dedicated performers and teachers on staff at The S.P.A.C.E. encourage students to develop not only strong technique and performance skills, but also a genuine love for the arts.
