The Big Chill

This place is great for a local ice cream shop. I have only ever gotten their ice cream and milkshakes which are to die for! They are a little bit on the pricey side compared to Baskin Robins but definitely worth it if you are in the area and craving some dessert.

love love love this Ice Cream shop! Has the cutest décor ever and it’s attached to a hot dog place. What more could you want on a hot summer day?
I’m probably being selfish when I say this but I wish there were more dairy free options. A girl can’t eat raspberry ice for the rest of her life y’know? I do have to say I like the options that do have though. And also I love their waffles, even without the Ice Cream!
It is a tad bit expensive but you are paying for quality. (And the little Oreros they put on top of everything, which honestly are the best.)

amazing 80 – 90’s designed restaurant, gives you an old fashion vibe, costumer service is great, however they only take cash! Ice cream is delicious.

This establishment is a cute retro ice cream parlour with cow figurines lining each and every shelf and then some. There’s quite a bit of seating inside, but more is added outside in the summer months for the crowds. This is the perfect place to grab a sweet treat after a meal.
The one thing you absolutely need to get is their home made waffles. Give them about 4 minutes to prep that bad boy for you. It’s warm, fresh, fluffy, and you’ll smell it before you see it! Make sure you plan out your choice of ice cream, yes/​no to whip cream, toppings, and sauce. It’s ginormous (great for sharing!) and well worth $ 10.
Their banana splits are average. However, their ice cream is great! They offer samples so be sure to try a few before you commit. I’m a fan of the Ferrero Rocher, Skor, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, and Caribou Tracks. I still have yet to make my way through their whole selection.
Unfortunately, it’s Cash Only though so be sure you got those dolla dolla bills. Otherwise, run over to the BMO across the street before your ice cream melts.

Came here for an evening dessert, it always smells delicious when walking by. We got there before the line-​up got long.
I ordered an Oreo Salted Caramel ice cream in a waffle cone. I sit down and start eating my ice cream when I see a fly IN my cone. I take a closer look and it’s s full fly, completely intact, stuck in the waffle. I wait for the line to go down a bit then I talk to the guy who made my ice cream, asking if they could give me another cone or something. He goes, and I quote «there’s flies here so it’s bound to happen. I can put transfer it to a cup for you but that’s it». I’m sorry, we had bought a waffle cone ice cream, and there’s a fly and all you can say is that it’s bound to happen? What kind of response is that?
So I tell my boyfriend what they had said and he responded by saying that there was a fly in his milkshake… Fast forward a few moments later when I look at another part of the cone and there was a dead fly smeared all over it.
Tell me how it is sanitary to have dead flies in your waffle cones and say that it happens and there’s nothing you can do about it.
Once again, I will NEVER come back here, no matter how much I crave ice cream.

This place is great if you’ve just finished a meal or an evening in the immediate vicinity. Prices are high but the quality and atmosphere makes up for that. We ended up spending about 2 hours here without really being troubled by anyone, seating for groups larger than 4 is limited but can be found in the booth at the back.
I suppose they’re going for a classic malt shop vibe, it works well with the neighborhood and customers are always in and out. All in all I was pretty satisfied, it was a great middle of the road kind of place but the flavors weren’t as bold as some other places nearby and the price is a bit higher so it gets a good rating from me.

Line up at Bang Bang was too long so on a mission to satisfy an ice cream craving, bae and I stopped here.
I was more excited about my ice cream cone than the man behind the counter but I get it. It’s not that exciting when you have to serve a million people frozen treats all day and night. Whee!
Ordered the house made waffle cone and dark chocolate peanut butter ice cream. Of course I said yes to whipped cream on top — you must not know me: P Loved the baby oreo cookie topper! Bae got another peanut butter ice cream which was equally delicious.
I would visit again for sure!

This is my favourite ice cream parlour in Toronto by far for many reasons. Firstly, the big chill smells like HEAVEN! The continuous smell of freshly made waffle cones will seriously either have you glued to your chair not wanting to leave the parlour, or chasing the delicious smell outside from a mile away!
The ice cream selection is perfect. Just to name a few of my favourites: Black raspberry cheesecake, chocolate peanut butter, oreo salted caramel and Mickey’s birthday cake. They surely have all of your ice cream cravings covered at the big chill! For those nights where you are up for trying something different, they have a wide variety of specialities you can choose from, such as ice cream sandwiches, ice cream donut sundaes or Belgian waffles, just to name a few to get your mouth watering.
The retro theme inside the big chill is another thing I love! The colour schemes and overall cow theme within the parlour is cleverly thought out, and is something that I always look for and credit within any restaurant. Also, the adorable outside patio is sure to add a sweet end to any summer night! Do yourself a favor and go check out the big chill, I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed!

Tried their salted Oreo flavour and it was delicious! Scoops are very generous and staff were friendly. Cash only!

While the ice cream was decent the staff were great and very friendly/​patient. The 2 scooper is fairly priced given the amount of ice cream they give. Next time I’ll likely get an ice cream sandwich. What I liked best about this place is that it is open til midnight.

Great ice cream, but I find them, er, unclean?
I’ve been here twice and I think the euphoria of ice cream blinded me the first time. The second time — not so much.
Came here with a bunch of coworkers and we were all pretty excited for some ice cream at the late hour, however 2 things happened.
1. Using her bare hands, she grabbed the cone, wrapped a napkin around it, scooped ice cream onto the cone, used her fingers to press the oreo into it, then went to cash and took my money. So basically I’m eating some dirty money (and whatever else she touched before I ordered) ice cream — yay.
2. My friend’s ice cream had 2 thin and long pieces of plastic in them. She spit out the first one thinking it was a strand of hair. The second one she pulled directly out of her ice cream. Yepp. Gross.
I mean the ice cream is still good… But that experience was such a turn off.

The ice cream was great and the service was great. The cashier woman was lovely and this spot is family friendly and great for anyone with a sweet tooth. I got a scoop of cookies and cream ice cream and it was amazing. I certainly reccomend this spot for anyone.

Canadian ice cream is THE best, and this place does it pretty well. Thinking of the rum raisin still gives me palpitations. The cookie dough was good as well. They don’t seem to know how to properly dispense hot fudge onto the ice cream, but that’s neither here nor there because the ice cream speaks for itself. The late hours are also much appreciated.

I dropped in on the coldest day of the year and didn’t have the ice cream, but had a very good latte and a Montréal steamer hot dog from the Little Dog at the rear of the ice cream shop. The hot dog was great! Now that I’m aware of this neat little shoppe I’ll try some of the toppings for the hot dog (poutine as a topping?!) next as well as some of their ice cream. The place is wonderfully decorated and worth stopping in even to just have a look at the creativity.

Old and retro in style– The Big Chill is a fine option for Ice Cream in the neighborhood. I wouldn’t go anywhere else. With over 30 flavors to choose from, you’ll find one you will love and have the option to get it in a cup or waffle, plain, or sugar cones like usual. For 5 – 6 bucks, it’s not terrible!
There are a few seats outside and more inside. In the summer it gets busy, seats are scarce!
A sweet treat if you’re walking around, perusing Little Italy– it’s a go to if you’re looking for Ice Cream!

It’s pretty rare for me to get ice cream in anything other than a cup, but this place has me ordering a waffle cone every time. They’re made fresh so they come slightly warm and even a little chewy at the very tip. There’s endless ice cream options and I haven’t been disappointed yet. My favourite seems to be the chocolate peanut butter, though. It gets a little hectic in the evenings, but I find service pretty fast. And just fyi: it’s a cash only place, but there is a bank across the street (BMO).

I had to check through all of my reviews twice because I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed this place already. It’s my absolute favourite ice cream shop in Toronto.
The vibe: There is no city corner that smells better than Manning and College and that is all thanks to the FRESHLY MADE WAFFLE CONES at The Big Chill whose smells ooze into the city streets tempting everyone who passes by. I don’t know if I really need to say more than FRESHLY MADE WAFFLE CONES, but I will, just because I love this place so much. It’s an adorable, old school style ice cream shop with loads of outdoor seating to enjoy.
The food: ICE CREAM! SUNDAES! SPLITS! COOKIES! ICE CREAM SANDWICHES! MILKSHAKES! All of the really good things. All of the things that make me believe that heaven exists. There are so many flavours, and the waffle cones are a delight. Often, they’ll still be warm and soft. Does it get better than that?
My go to meal: Caribou tracks in a waffle cone. A vanilla based ice cream with little peanut butter cups.
Secret: Say yes to whipped cream & the little Oreo cookie on top, would ya? Also, cash only!

So many flavours of ice cream! One tip is to walk right into the store and look at their other dessert aside from ice cream. I’m definitely coming back once summer is underway!

My friend and I decided we wanted some ice cream after our phở today so we braved the horrible cold and made our way here, proving once and for all that it is never to cold for ice cream! She had been many times before but this was my first time there, and I loved it! This place has the coolest, most fun atmosphere of any ice cream place I’ve been in, and the sheer number of cow stuff they have lining the walls is incredibly impressive. What was also impressive was how insanely good it smelled, every time the heat would pick up there’d be such a strong warm breeze of the most wonderful smells– waffles, chocolate, and other delicious dessert-​y things. I had Ferraro Rocher ice cream, and it was actually as good as it sounds. I will certainly be making the place a regular spot come summer time!
