Tessie’s used to be a random destination on Dundas when you were out for a pub crawl, but since new management, owners and staff have moved in and renovated it’s become THE destination for my friends and I twice a week. The place has a laid-back vibe, with a jukebox and five flat-screen TVs playing sporting events or customer requests. They have daily specials for both food and drink and they are decent — if you are looking for something casual this is a good bet. Only lost a star since sometimes the staff get roped into conversation with what I assume are the regulars.

Come to Tessy’s for: — Watered down alcohol! Stay away from anything that is not in a can. — Roofies and coke! — Nightly fights on the patio! — Generic made from frozen food! — Padded bills and stolen wallets! There is nothing, and I mean nothing, positive about this place or my experience here. Better off going to 6th street or The Gate. Looking for a dive? Try Fox and Fiddle down the street.

Tessie’s is a gem. But you have to know what to expect. This isn’t a luxurious, chain pub in downtown Toronto. Tessie’s is a small little establishment, with old-looking booths/chairs and an eclectic mix of decorations on the wall. The clientele leans a bit older, but there’s a good selection of beers/hard alcohol, so if you’re there to have a few drinks and a good time, not immerse yourself in some hipster crowd, you should be set :) It’s a stones throw from where I live, and a lot of fun, so it is a regular destination.

This is a nice place to grab a beer and a bite in the Kipling/Bloor area. The staff is friendly and for it being a bar the food is not to bad. I suggest giving this place a try.
