Sweetgrass Spa at Verity

I had a day at this spa bought for me by my husband.
My day started off with a very friendly greeting at the door. I was then escorted after signing health forms to the pool/​hot tub/​sauna area. It was very nice but the sauna was a small one person room with clear doors that offered no privacy and you could not enter with a wet bathing suit. Medicore «hydrotherapy» section.
I was then escorted to my massage. 1hr. Very professional. Nice facility. And then to the champagne lunch which was included. The portion was very small but was good. Nothing extraordinary.
The manicure pedicure were average. But the service was excellent. The lounge and changing areas are also very comfortable. With robe and towel service.
All in all excellent day.

Ok this is a lousy spa with bad service. It feels like you are in a dungeon. Seems old and dated. Front desk was not welcoming at all and massage was not great. Lunch was way over priced for what is was. We all agreed we would never go back. Just overall it left a really bad impression. I have owned a spa for many years and this place does not measure up in customer service or quality. I cannot believe it has any good reviews at all

Sweetgrass is my go-​to spa when I want to splurge on myself (or more likely, got a gift card for my birthday/​xmas as I generally always ask for one). It’s far from perfect, but I find the pros outweigh the cons, and I always feel so relaxed sitting by their pool area after my treatments.
Some of the pros:
Beautiful pool/​hot tub/​sauna area that looks sort of lagoon-​like.
High quality treatments and services.
Really nice staff, who don’t push expensive products on you (aside from this one time, but I ended up buying the product so I guess she was just a good saleswoman).
The changing room/​shower area is nice and clean.
It has never been too crowded — I almost always get ready in an empty changing room.

It’s women only, so can’t do a couples massage or anything (well, this may be a con to some ppl — I actually enjoy the women only atmosphere).
No convenient parking nearby.

I have never written a review before and felt so strongly about my experience at sweetgrass that I had to let others know. I am so relieved to have found this spa! Normally I don’t like trying new places but this time it really paid off. I have found my go to spot. The staff was very helpful and friendly answering all my questions. I was greeted and taken into a beautiful locker room to get changed into my robe for the relaxation to begin. They brought me into a beautiful room with candles, vintage furniture and fresh flowers to relax have a tea and fill out my health form. When I had finished they offered their pool and sauna services which I suggest you bring your suit for, which I regret not doing so once I had seen the pool. I drank my tea and was greeted by Belona who was going to perform my facial, mani and pedi. She led me into a dimly lit room with great smelling candles for my facial. She was very knowledgeable and explained the service before starting. she asked me what my main concerns were and if she should focus on a certain area I would prefer. The facial was the best I have had. I didn’t want it to end! Then I was led to another room for my mani and pedi which was in another cute little room. The manicure was pretty basic for the package I chose but the pedicure was flawless. Normally I am very picky about getting the polish just right and Belona did an amazing job. I then was encouraged to relax in the main room and have a nap or a beverage while my nails dried. She even sent me home with a sample of the lotion she used as I was concerned about moisturizer and breaking out. You really couldn’t ask for a more relaxed and professional environment. The prices are reasonable and I didn’t’t feel at all that I wasn’t’t getting my money’s worth. I will definitely be back many more times and can’t wait to book a day in with my girlfriend’s. Thank you for the great service.

Update:
I visited a second time to redeem the third service on my voucher, and the experience was much better. The front desk girl (short black hair) was welcoming, friendly and helpful. I was late, and they were still able to squeeze me in for my full service which made me really happy. Much better– rating upgraded to ⁴⁄₅.
Previous Review:
As with my previous review of a different spa, this was listed on a couple website as being one of the better downtown spas.
I wasn’t able to make an appointment over the phone, the line kept going to voicemail. They were quick to respond to my online request, though. In person, the concierge was professional but unfriendy. When I’m spending $ 160 on a non-​RMT massage, I expect a little love at reception.
The reception area is also a storefront and the waiting room/​lounge is connected by a wide doorway. It’s not relaxing being in a robe in full view of the reception area/​store. The waiting room décor was confused. There were clumps of chairs around a dining table.
My massage was as good, but not great.
I was very aware of the members versus non-​members divide, because I saw a couple rooms marked «members only». It kind of made me feel like a second-​class spa citizen. That’s just my personal feeling, of course.
On the plus side, for those of you who like water, the pool looked very nice. Waaaaay better than Elmwood, which sucks.
With six or seven comparably priced and rated spas in the areas to try, I think I’ll go somewhere else next time.

Product/​service: I got a massage, facial and polish change ($ 200 before tax and tip).
Facilities: Everything was clean, neat and well-​kept. This isn’t a super luxurious spa (and the prices reflect that), but it had nice touches here and there, and it was obvious that there was a lot of care put into the facilities. The washrooms were well-​lit and seemed to be regularly checked for spills and messes. The only negative was that I found the nail area to be quite small and claustrophobic, especially once the smell of nail polish starts flooding the small, poorly ventilated room.
Customer Service: I enjoyed my massage and facial quite a lot, the lady didn’t try to push product onto me although they also didn’t give me any samples as I’ve gotten from other comparable spas. Everyone was quick to ask if I wanted water or snacks (fruit) and generally there was a high standard of professionalism being met. The nails were probably the weakest link. I can do my nails better than the girl who did my nails — she slathered on the polish in two thick layers (causing them to chip very easily the next day). She also wasn’t very professional in the way she talked to me or my friend and was in a rush to finish. Since it was the last service of the day, it really ruined my relaxed mood. There was no follow up to see if the nails had dried properly like other places. They also don’t seem to have any drying facilities like a light or a fan, so you just have to sit and wait using drying drops (once again, I could do this at home). One nail smudged and three chipped within a day.
Overall, although the actual service cannot be faulted and I was pleased overall, I only found the facial lady to be friendly and no one else stood out. To me, the service is what makes or breaks a spa once it’s at a certain level of skill– and sweetgrass didn’t impress me enough for me to be back any time soon. I might try it one more time because I did enjoy the facial, but it would really have to overcome a lukewarm first impression. I prefer the elmwood spa at this price point and would recommend that to anyone looking for a spa visit without breaking the bank.

Went here for a spa day with a friend and we booked a package that was a massage, lunch and mani/​pedi combo. The massage and mani/​pedi were fine.
The atmosphere and feel of this place is really nice way more relaxing and chill than body blitz. And I will definitely return. Staff are very friendly and professional.
Especially for a higher end place, the following revisions/​changes would make this a 5 star location for me:
1. They offer generic crap teas (the same kind that my office stocks — from some big supplier… bleh). I go to the spa to get away from my office not be be reminded of it.
2. One of the nice things about this spa are the water therapies that they offer, it would ever MORE nice if they offered you a plastic bag for your wet bathing suit afterwards. (its the little things you know, that show you are thinking of my whole experience there, from arriving to leaving).
3. In the change rooms they have 2 hairdryers, but the wiring is such that they can’t both be used at the same time (unfortunately we saw the sign too late). *light bulb* moment… if 2 hairdryers can not be used at the same time, do not provide 2 hairdryers. Logic please!

I got the «All About You» spa package as a special treat (thanks D). I thoroughly enjoyed my day at the spa, totally floppy now. All staff were friendly. The place is clean with a relaxing atmosphere.
Massage — you know a massage is going to be good when you get a hot towel cleanse of your feet. My Swedish massage with aromatherapy oil was excellent. I wish it did not have to end.
Facial — who doesn’t love a scalp massage? You also get your arms massaged. I enjoyed that too.
Mani & Pedi — more massages go along with these. This room is just off the large pool area.
I would definitely return for repeat treatments here. I highly recommend it.

I went here for a pedicure with my mom and we had a poor experience. The appointment was pleasant enough but mine ended halfway through and my mom’s ended early as well. And they started another pedicure during my supposed appointment time. The receptionist said the pedicurist finished early because she was experienced; the job was average though. They gave me a small discount on my service. Will not go back.

I have been here twice now for massages and really enjoyed both visits. I came on weekdays and it was quiet both times. Combining a treatment with using the pool, sauna, and hot tub makes for a relaxing afternoon.
The changeroom is small, but as I said, there was never more than 1 other person. They have hair dryers, a straightening iron, body lotion, toothpaste and toothbrushes. They also have plastic bags for your swimsuit. Bring your own hairbrush!
The lounge area is spacious with comfy sofas and chairs. You can eat lunch there, so it is sort of set up to look like a restaurant. But you can just sit there, read magazines, and drink tea as well. The reception area features cosmetics, cards, flowers, and other gift items. The pool area has more lounge chairs. The sauna is very small so I would feel awkward in there with another person! There is an underwater treadmill and bike, but they say you need special shoes so your feet don’t get hurt, so I skipped it.
The RMT’s were fantastic! Very relaxing and they make a note to ask about areas to focus on. Music started well with classical piano (real piano, not those midi-​file-​like versions) but then went on to typical new age-​y spa music, which I was less into. They have great aromatherapy oils and let you choose which one. After each area is massaged, they put a warm towel over your skin — a nice touch.
It’s a bit pricey, but they have monthly specials on their website! I would be back the next time I want to use my benefits to get a massage.

Sweet grass spa was really amazing. I was pampered when I got the all about me package. Plus lunch. In short. everything was great you should check it out. Since I am a young 22 year old, it was weird seeing older women so comfortable with their nudity which threw me off so if you want a spa more towards a younger crowd this may not be for you, but i say go anyways because the services are amazing.

I felt fancy here, been given a nice robe to wear and loved sitting in extremely comfortable cushiony chairs. I went here on the ultimate Friend Date. We envisioned our future as Ladies Who Lunch, or as the Desperate Housewives. I wish I were rich.
The spa is quiet and peaceful. There were other ladies in robes, but we didn’t talk to them. We’re weren’t there to make friends, we were there to WIN.
My RMT was a little strange in personality despite her strong hands and excellent massage. She was a mumbler and asked me personal questions about whether or not I wanted children. I almost cried and said that I am barren. Some advice for the future: Don’t talk, just massage.
The salt water pool was amazing. Nobody else was in it and we floated around at our leisure. I wish I were rich.
I was sad to leave this place and go back to my shitty life. Just kidding, I love life.

Sweet heaven for Sweet Grass Spa. It is a beautiful and quiet spa. I cannot believe that it is a block away from where I live. I had an amazing session with Nick who is an RMT. It was a deep tissue massage that involved a lot of dynamic stretches and joint activation, which I personally liked because my body is pretty bruised from all the bootcamp exercises during the week. I came in and got to the lockers seamlessly. I did get toothbrush and toothpaste with my robe, which was quite good. Then I lounged around in their pink waiting room. It was very pink but I found that the chaise lounges were very comfortable. They had teas and water to quench your thirst but that’s about it. Not going to complain though. It is thoroughly addictive and I can imagine being here all day. This place makes me want to book another visit very soon and almost makes me want spend a small fortune on a years worth of massage! Hmmm invest in mutual funds or massages? Very tough choice!

This is my favourite spa in Toronto. It is never busy, so it’s always quiet and easy to get an appointment. The RMTs are the best I’ve found in the city so far. When you book a service, you also get free access to the indoor pool, hot tub and sauna. Not a bad deal! They also have food service if you feel like having a small meal and a glass of wine in your robe.

So this is how Canadians live? An American like me could get used to this, especially the riding off of massages with health insurance!
A beautiful spa, a wonderful place for friends to sit around and soak up some fanciness. I was slightly disappointed in the whirlpools as they don’t look as nice as they do in the pictures. Service was very good. But as this is Unilocal I have to minus one star — for the FOOD. Platters were okay, a few of them tasty but a few of them not, very necessary as you want to spend hours lounging in the spa and need something to munch on. But my advice is to eat somewhere else and then head to the spa and snack only as needed.
But the most important part — THE HOT STONE MASSAGE. It was luxurious, comforting, OOO and AHHH and OH YES. Hands down the best massage I have ever had (and it should be for more than $ 150 for 60 minutes!). Just what I needed (and deserved) after stepping off of a 7 hr ($ 7) Megabus from the states.

I find it hard to give 5s unless it’s in the Wow category.
This place was pretty good… I’ll elaborate.
Yay:
–located on the bottom level of a building, this spa was in all beautiful, spacious, and clean;
–Heather was the one who gave me the facial. If you enjoy organic /​Dr. Hauschka products, know that she’s been trained to give full Dr. Hauschka facials — complete with a pre-​facial foot soak, some lymphatic massage, and some colour therapy. Heather really knows her products (request «organic/​Dr. Hauschka» products in advance, so that she can ready the foot soak; otherwise you’ll be offered Dermatologica — a worldwide known brand name, minus the foot soak;
–usage of the indoor pool and hot tub, infrared sauna, steam room, are all at your disposal;
–a bathrobe, towels, and even a sample sunscreen and toothbrush and toothpaste may be offered to you once you get to your locker — which comes with a key, so that it can be locked;
–decent selection of cosmetics, esp. in the skincare dept. (although I’m not sure if the prices are the most competitive out there);
–they have a lounge area for you to chill in — unless you’d rather chill in the pool area.
Hey:
–the only gratis beverages offered were water, coffee, or Lipton teas (would have been nice if juices were added to the mix!);
–if you have a coupon on any sort, you might find the receipt confusing — they’ve broken up the amount and at first the way they arrived to my total was unclear.
Would I go again? Yes.

I’ve been to a few spas in my life and I have to say that this was amazing. The service is friendly and professional, not pretentious at all. Everything is stunning and smells amazing. The pedicure made me feel like I had died and gone to heaven. It’s so relaxing and lovely. I felt like I was really treated like a queen. I will be back again and again and again.

Great spa in the middle of the city! I discovered this gem through a Groupon — cashed it in for a 30 minute massage and a 30 minute facial. Both services were great, although I will definitely opt for longer services next time. The ambiance is great, you would never imagine you are in a basement. The pool/​hottub/​sauna area is lovely. Beautiful changerooms, beautiful lounge to relax in between treatments. I will definitely be back.

This is my favourite spa. It is a gorgeous and peaceful refuge in downtown Toronto, tucked away on Queen St. The spa offers full-​service and has a lovely lounge where you can have great and healthy food from Verity Club (George Restaurants). There is a great oxygenated pool, hot tub and sauna to use as well! Very relaxing!
