Don’t waste your money or time here. I worked here as a high-school student — saw and dealt with enough to never recommend this place to anyone. The owner is miserable, and so is everything else about this store. Yes it looks fun — but don’t let appearances deceive.

I bought a FabFind coupon the other day, and was super excited to get my ‘$ 30 worth of candy for $ 15′. Granted, the coupon was only for the bulk selection, but that’s my favourite stuff … Anyways, I was really disappointed with Suckers. I started off at the gummies. I tried using the provided scoops, but quite honestly, everything was freakin’ as hard as a rock! I couldn’t scoop anything, because they’d all congealed together, and the stale(sad) state they were in made it impossible. The bins they were in, looked like they’d have better days. Dusty, squeaky, and wouldn’t stay up. Moved on to the bulk sour section. Same as above. HARDAS A ROCK. I ended up using my hands, to grab stuff, as I realized I had $ 30 to spend in here, as so far, had an empty bag in my hand. :( Liquorish section. See above. Chocolate bulk selection was barely there. Some chocolate covered almonds, and such. They have a much larger selection of bulk candy at The Bulk Barn. And that stuff is fresh. This stuff was nasty. :( They had a massive selection of pre-packaged candy, but quite honestly, I’d be curious to know the turn over rate of that stuff. They have so much ‘stuff’, and based on the sad state of the bulk product, I’d never buy anything in there. Chances are it’s been sitting in here for a loooong time. This place gets a pass from a Candy Lover. Boo.

Worth a detour if you are into candy at all. There’s a small section on fine chocolate(e.g. Valrhona) but the attraction here is the sheer variety of candies from the mass-market(I bought a dark Reece peanut butter cups, which I haven’t seen before) to the indies such Abba-Zabba(made in Hayward, California and I think still family owned). The Hello Kitty selection provided a couple gifts for a friend back home and people in to Pez and Jelly Belly will be happy to find substantial selections.

When I am on the Danforth(which is often), I will usually make a stop-in here. Oddly enough, I rarely buy anything. It just looks so fun that I feel I’d be missing out without a little walk-through. There is every kind of candy imaginable here — including a few favourites from England and the 80’s that I would have trouble finding anywhere else. The entire wall of Pez dispensers is key. It is interesting to see who/what has the honor of being made into a Pez dispenser these days. This place is awesome for a bit of nostalgia or a quick treat. It is pretty pricey, but on par with similar candy stores. The toys/gifts here are especially high priced. Cool to look at, but I bet you’d find the same stuff much cheaper online.

Great bulk candy selection even if the standard stuff is a bit pricey. They also have a pretty good selection of candy thats hard to find, as well as joke candy(super remote control power pills), bobble-heads(Buffy!), Pez dispensers, etc. Also, giant pixy stix! I love giant pixy stix!

suckers is for kids mostly. they know who their clientele is. though there are a fair number of things that are geared towards adults in the form of witty joke gifts like bottles of «pills» called«total bitch» as alternative remedies. of course there are adults who maintain their sweet tooth until it starts to rot and so theyre open to chomp on just as much as their kids. the other major candy store in the city is tutti fruitti and though i think its great, and the stock in both stores is just too vast to compare so easily in terms of variety, i think that suckers is a step above for its sheer attention to detail and variety of presentation. when you walk in the store you notice different levels — stairs, shelves, open freezers youd see in the supermarket used to display only chocolate bars. visually its much more exciting than other stores of its kind, and for a kid especially it becomes(as it should) more of an adventure. its true that they are expensive but its understandable. supply and demand makes it clear that because they have hundreds of things that most places wouldnt have, they are priced at a premium. there are no normal variety stores in the city that carry the variety that this place has — most dont even carry things that used to be more popular like pop rocks or mike and ikes. so in the same way that a gourmet dessert shop would charge for its organic ingredients or unusual recipe, i think this place(and tutti fruitti) will charge for its inventory and specialization. there are a lot of great treats, toys, and joke gifts if thats the way you like to spend your cash and its all in one store.

I remember going to Taste of the Danforth when I was younger and literally forcing my poor mother to take me into this store and whining until I got some candy. I was a brat. I also remember my mother complaining about how expensive it was. After coming back years later, I can tell you that my mother was right. As much as things like«imported candy» may be interesting to look at, spending that much money on them seems a little ridiculous. I am a person who prefers candy over chocolate any day, and I would definitely buy stuff from here if I was in the area, but there are so many candy stores around that are so much better, and so much closer to me. Suckers is OK, but anyone who shops here on a regular basis without checking out the competition truly is a sucker.

Neck in neck with other candy stores, Suckers just doesn’t measure up! If I wanted to buy a pack of skittles, I would go to the dollar shop and buy them cheaply! The outside of this store is quite inviting, colorful, vibrant sign, it hits you like bullseye. I’ve been to my fair share of Candy stores, I’m addicted to candy, but there’s a fine line between reasonably priced candy and a total ripoff. The only positive thing that I can say about this store is that it does carry sugar-free candy, and it has a whole section for jelly bellies! If there’s one thing I’m a suck for, it’s jelly bellies. For a good quality candy store, check on the Nutty Chocolatier on Queen East(in the beaches).
