Jeff S.

Business Owner

Jeff has tried over 250 jury and non-​jury trials in his specialized practice of personal injury and medical malpractice.

He has argued cases successfully before the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Superior Court of Ontario and the Supreme Court of Canada.

Several of Jeff’s cases have set precedents and resulted in changes to the law in Canada. At the Supreme Court of Canada, he successfully challenged the laws relating to the issue of uninsured coverage in the Somersall v. Friedman case.

His successful appeal in the Snushall v. Fulsang case now defines contributory negligence for the failure to use seatbelts. Because the Supreme Court of Canada denied the defendants’ appeal, the Snushall decision is now part of Canada’s law on the use of seatbelts.

Jeff’s work on the Dusk v. Malone case resulted in a judgment for the plaintiffs that created a new law on business valuation. Along with this judgment for substantial business loss, the defendant insurer was required to pay the full amount
