Business Owner

Jennifer Aucoin is a full-​time salsa instructor, choreographer and event organizer. She is the founder of STEPS Dance Studio in Toronto and has taught workshops in Puerto Rico, Europe, South America, the U.S. and Canada. Jennifer is the founder and producer of the annual Canada Salsa Congress, the largest and longest running salsa congress in Canada, as well as the organizer of the Canadian Salsa Championships. Jennifer has judged world class and elite competitions in Puerto Rico, New York, Ecuador, Las Vegas, Orlando, Miami, Detroit, Ottawa, Montréal and Toronto.

For those who have been following my reviews, I’ve been getting more active and healthy since the beginning of 2015. I’ve started to play sports once a week, go to the gym once a week and then I also started doing dance classes (though it wasn’t really to get active — it was to impress a girl).
What I didn’t predict is that dance classes can be a bit addictive because
a) They challenge you to think and move all your body parts at the same time;
b) You feel as if you aren’t doing some perfect, you want to keep improving it and prove to people that you can do it.
So I came here just for fun since they had a free trial dance class to see how it compares to the studio that I go to in Mississauga (I work in Toronto, live in Mississauga). The trial class was a bachata dance class and there was about 25 – 30 people. While this is quite a big class for one instructor IMO, I felt that there was enough attention given to each student. I’ve tried some other studios just for the sake of it, and one of them had like 40 – 50 students with 6 – 7 instructors and assistants at the same time and it was really confusing. I’d much prefer trying to learn and listen to one person and given less attention then getting conflicting information from multiple sources.
Anyways, while this place is located in an older office building, they have two big rooms that will fit all their students with good hardwood floors and decent sound proofing between them so you don’t hear the wrong music.
The instructors here are nice and very accommodating.
If you live in the area and want to learn Latin dances, this is a decent place to check out. They have a free trial class and you can do their free trial which is $ 50 for 30 days for unlimited classes.
