It’s officially summer when this bad boy opens its doors! It’s only open July — September so don’t get too used to it. This place is a definite throwback to my younger days and has been around for a while, but under a different name — either Maple Leaf Dairy or the Ice Cream Factory. Make sure to hold on to your change because this place is currently Cash Only! The décor is pretty stringent, unlike their portion sizes. A kids scoop is the size of a softball so keep that in mind when ordering. Their selection of ice cream is awesome. They’ve got ice cream, sherbets, and sorbets. I remember the days when I’d come with my Dad after the pool and he’d get Maple Walnut ice cream for himself while I’d get a chocolate milkshake. Unfortunately, they no longer do milk shakes. They were superb because they literally shook the crap out the ice cream to give you a liquidy concoction that was cool, delicious and thick. Even so, I still come back for the delicious ice cream at such a cheap price. So gather round your loved ones because everyone deserves a little ice cream in their life.

As everyone has mentioned, the serving size is huge! My husband and I each ordered a single scoop and didn’t come close to finishing… Next time we will get a single scoop and share. I was also very impressed by the wide variety of flavours! Ice cream quality isn’t the highest… A little on the icy, rather than creamy, side — but it is still delicious and the place is a ton of fun. A Perfect ice cream place to go with a group of Kids because of the affordability and awesome selection of flavours. This will be our new go to ice cream spot.

Saw this place after dinner and decided to check it out. There is no ambiance in this place, its very bare(a large ice cream counter along the back and a few standard fast food type tables set up, thats it) If you look at the back counter, you can see how much ice cream is given for each size. Nevertheless, we were still amazed when we got our orders. Child size is the size of a tennis ball. One scoop($ 3.50) is the tennis ball with two half scoops added on! Ordered mocha cappucino, peanut butter chocolate and the peanut butter cookie dough to try. All flavours were fairly good but not spectacular. The allure is more from the serving sizes than the actual quality of ice cream. Be warned that they close at 8 pm sharp, a father came with his young son shortly after and were turned away :( All in all, a solid neighbourhood place to get ice cream. Cash only.

Still great. I paid $ 3.50 for an ice cream. It’s still as big as your head. I had mango flavor this time and it was better than the chocolate I had last time. I liked it more because it was different than what I usually have at home which is either usually chocolate or vanilla. Choose a flavor that’s different. They are now open. They close during the winters.

During the summer, we’re here every two weeks. While it’s not gourmet ice cream, there are lots of nice flavours to choose from and with large sized portions make it a great value!

I’m here at least once a week providing it’s hot outside. Their portions are huge and at a cheap price. I’m an adult but always get a child scoop… that’s just how big their scoops are! My family and I been going here for years(since we were children) and have never been disappointed. My favourite flavours are coconut and the mango is good too. It’s not any gourmet ice cream, just normal delicious ice cream. The only thing is they don’t accept cards, only cash. They don’t charge tax on single orders, but if orders are more than one ice cream per order, there’s tax. The trick is to pay separately if you’re ordering more than one thing :). Lastly, they’re open until 9pm during it’s peak season so you can’t complain about that. Will always be a loyal customer :)

Was stuck in traffic on the Danfoth. Saw ‘The Ice Cream Depot’. Turned right onto Kelvin Ave promptly. I’m pretty sure that was the new name of the business. Lots of folks walking out on a sunny day with huge ice creams. I thought to myself… I don’t need to order 2 scoops. I ordered 1 of the Mint Chocolate Chip and it was bigger than my face for $ 3. And I have a big face. It was your standard taste. Portions were gigantic. Perfect if you’re Paul Bunyan. About 24 flavours plus other offerings that unfortunately I cannot remember as I was too fazed about the size of the thing I had to eat! Cash only.

There is no reason to give this ice-cream shop my highest honors. I’ve always loved this place & I still enjoy the huge selection and serving.

Actually it’s no longer called St. Clair it’s Maple Leaf but it’ll always eb St. Clair to me. The shop is only open during the summer but in the colder months you can go down the street to buy containers to take home. The portions are huge and reasonably priced, the variety is pretty good the classic flavours to green tea, red bean, yogurt and sorbets and a ton of fun bright flavoured ones for kids.

I am older than city hall and I have enjoyed this place since I was a young fella. If ya ask any east end old timer where he went for ice cream when he was a kid his eyes will glaze over as he smiles and says St. Clair– then comes-I still bring my grand kids there every summer. O.K. here’s the scoop uhumm. For under four bucks ya get a huge scoop of just about any kind ya really really want. I mean if you think big its even bigger than that. If ya got a kid that’s not talkin yet get him one and he will look at it and blurt out-holey sh??.I don’t know how they do it .they got yogurt ice cream an other trendy stuff, but if ya think ya want your kids ta love ya and have fond memories like I got-well turn em loose in here. Better find out when they open cause I don’t go till first Week of June. Enjoy summer.

This place is fantastic to go to if you want an ice cream fix. The portions are huge! I always order a single scoop and its like 3x more than Baskin Robbins, enough to share with a buddy. Anyways the variety is not bad. Great value for the amount that you get.
