Value investing is an investment approach developed by Ben Graham at Columbia Business School in the 1920’s. It was subsequently refined by Graham and his partner David Dodd through various editions of their famous book Security Analysis. Well known proponents of value investing include Berkshire Hathaway chairman Warren Buffett.

With over three decades of experience, we have found that our three-​part value investing strategy is the best way to reduce risk and volatility and earn consistent returns over time.

Founded in 2005, Sprung Investment Management helps clients moderate swings in market volatility through a «value investing» approach. Aimed at preserving wealth and providing a real rate of return after fees and inflation, we are known for employing philosophies that frequently run contrary to current investment trends. Sprung is different from other investment management firms in that we make a deliberate attempt to minimize trading and transaction costs. Our decisions are based on due diligence and staying our course rather than reacting to market volatility.. We believe, in the words of Ben Graham that «the essence of investment management is the management of risks, not the management of returns.»

Business Owner

Michael founded Sprung Investment Management to meet the personalized needs of private clients, not-​for-​profit organizations, endowments, foundations and small institutions. As President, he is responsible for the firm’s overall direction and investment portfolio decisions. Michael brings more than 30 years experience in the Canadian investment industry and has managed equity and balanced portfolios as large as several billion dollars. Michael can be seen as a commentator on BNN-​TV and is a frequent contributor to the Canadian Financial Press.
