History

Established in 1978.

In the fall of 1978 Paul Montgomery opened the Pro Shop at the Caledon Ski Club, 1 hour north of Toronto. It was a humble beginning in a 900 sq-​ft building with one employee. From the start he emphasized three simple words-​service, service, service.

After a couple years of modest success, an accident caused the shop to burn to the ground. Three weeks later, the insurance company declared bankruptcy. Instead of packing up his wax iron and calling it quits, Paul’s passion for the sport of skiing kept him going and he re-​opened the shop.

Business began to take off. In 1984, he built another shop at the Beaver Valley ski club. In 1986 the business expanded further to the Mississauga store. After 10 years of ups & downs, including a flood and a recession, he opened the Collingwood store and then in 2002, the Toronto store.

In 2009, with a desire to be at the heart of all skiing and biking, he opened the Whistler Creekside shop, followed shortly by the Whistler Village & Vancouver stores

Meet the Business Owner

In 1978, after years of flying through northern Canada as a bush pilot and having just completed a computer science degree at U of Guelph, Paul decided to follow his passion for skiing. He opened the 900 sq-​ft Caledon Pro Shop at the Caledon Ski Club, just outside of Toronto.

The business expanded to become Skiis & Biikes, with 7 locations in BC and Ontario.

Paul still resides close to the location of the original Pro Shop in Caledon, Ontario. He has 3 children and a wife of 30+ years. Two of his children now work in the family business, one in BC and the other in the Toronto area.

Besides his passions for skiing and cycling, Paul also has an ardent passion for sailing, travel, and adventures. Among his more intrepid adventures, is sailing across the Atlantic Ocean with his 80-​year-​old father and a man they met on the dock in the Caribbean.
