Terrible customer service at the Fairvew Mall location (Ladieswear).
After waiting in line for 25 minutes in the checkout line due to the fact that there were only 2 cashiers and everyone was signing up for a credit card (which is required to get 40% off), the cashier told me my item was not eligible for the 30% off sale (which you do not need a credit card for). I was positive I had read the sign correctly (I read it several times) but she did not offer to do a price check, nor did I want to wait in line again, so I said I would pay full price. Halfway through the sale, another customer (appeared to be a friend of hers) cut the line, walked up to the cash next to me, and put a pile of items on the counter on top of my item. They continued to chit chat until I had to interrupt them to ask the cashier to take my debit card and complete the sale.
It is no wonder this store is closing.

Hot mess. It’s closing. Thank goodness.

FYI my impression of Sears was mainly based on what I saw South of the border. For what ever it is worth this wasn’t a place I would shop at let alone event visit in US.
Sears in Canada is another beast altogether and most of the people who visit from US find it to be a pleasant surprise (upscale, cleaner, well lit and well kept then they they expected are some of the comments).
My shopping experience here has been pleasant though my purchases are limited to appliances and furniture. They have decent variety here for appliances and prices are OK and after sale support has been quite good. Their catalog is quite extensive and one can find a deal once in a while. They have a very good selection for Natuzzi if you like their furniture.
Worth a visit especially for appliances and furniture.

The two stars are for their sales. I’ve been able to find some expensive things for great prices at Sears. But their staff leave much to be desired.
No one in the store seems to know anything about their department and when you do ask them questions they’re incredibly rude. It must be a management thing because across the board at Sears stores nearly every employee acts as though they hate life and hate you for being in the store.

HORRIBLE customer service!
I purchased 6 pairs of earrings on-​line as my bridesmaid gifts. Before I made the purchase, I phoned the 1 – 800 # on the website to be 100% sure I could return them if they weren’t exactly what I wanted… sure enough, the earrings came and I wasn’t impressed, so off I went to return them.
The lady in the store was nice enough, she explained that they cannot do a return on earrings, I told her I had called the 1 – 800 # and they had assured me it would be OK to return. So she got on the phone with someone in «head office». That’s where it went downhill.
The gentleman on the phone from head office was VERY RUDE to me, and basically interrogated me. First he asked for the name of the phone operator I spoke to when I made the initial call… how silly? That had been over a month ago! And, it’s not like I asked for their name, or wrote it down! Then he said to me «Well, why didn’t you just purchase the earrings over the phone when you called to ask if they were returnable?» So now, I’m being asked why I made the purchase on-​line instead of over the phone?
He asked me the same questions over & over in between long periods of dead air. He put me on hold numerous times. I finally asked to speak to his manager, he put me on hold for another 10 minutes, came back and said he was going to try to recover the recording of my phone call to the 1 – 800 # agent… so I held for another 15 minutes… THEN the fire alarm went off @ Sears and we were all evacuated!
So, as it stands, I have 6 pairs of identical earrings, worth $ 400 sitting around. Not sure what to do now. I’ve tried calling the catalogue centre numerous times, but the phone just rings & rings.
Hopefully after «recovering» my initial phone call to their 1 – 800 operators, they will take them bakc.

Thursday I had to ask 4 staff where the men’s wallets were, I hate running back & forth! I was hot & pissed off by that! Then I went upstairs to but a purse, later that night when I went to use it the security alarm tag was attached inside the purse! Some idiots work there!

Canadian branch of the international American retailer. Unlike their American counterparts, this Sears sells high end brands such as Chanel and Versace. Prices tend to be high and the stereotype that Sears is nothing but a retailer for trailer trash and the NASCAR crowd (prevalent in the American South) is not found here. The Eaton Centre store is the flagship store for the mall and it does offer three floors of apparel and household goods. Foreign tourists can stop by the ground floor customer service desk to get a 10% discount pass for their shopping needs. The chain needs to change with times and offer better pricing for electronics and household goods, or I’m afraid that it will go the way of many American retailers such as Woolworth’s, Sterns, and Gimbels in becoming a retail relic.

I still miss the days at there was actually an EATON’s in the Eaton Centre, but Sears is A-​OK for some things.
I just got my watch strap replaced here. The people who run the watch and jewellery repair shop (at the North side, close to H&M, main floor) are wonderful:
. They have a huge selection of watch bands, including one that matched mine perfectly (which is tricky, because my old strap was quite narrow) priced around $ 24. I had gone to the Bay first, expecting them to have a better selection and was disappointed that their straps were all too wide AND quite expensive!
I also used the tailor here last year, because I bought a dress somewhere in the mall and they recommended Sears. The tailor is located in the men’s section in the basement. Service was meh. I ended up paying $ 30 to get straps of a dress shortened, and it ended up kind of uneven (note to self: always re-​try on your garment before you leave the tailors… I thought it was such a simple thing that it’d be fine and only realized it was wonky when I went home). Dislike.
Otherwise, I can’t say I shop here that much but it is good for things like cosmetics (e.g. if Clinique or Biotherm have a gift with purchase) or appliances.
P. S. I also just noticed that they recently added a beauty bar/​salon on the main floor. They do blowouts, manis, pedis, etc. I didn’t get a chance to see what the prices are like or anything, but it will be interesting to see how they do…

My experience is with buying appliances. Sears claims to have a price match guarantee. I found a good deal for an appliance on a competitor’s website but the sale ended that same day. I could have bought that deal immediately online, but I called Sears because for some reason I thought they had a better reputation. The man on the phone said that I could save a screen shot of the sale and take it to a Sears location within 30 days. So I took the screen shot and went to Sears on Yonge Street a few days later. The sales person told me he could not match the sale price because the sale was over, but instead offered me a «deal» for over a hundred dollars more that what I could have got online. I asked to speak with the manager, who told me that he could not match the deal unless I had proof of what the man had told me over the phone. I went home and called back, but the man I spoke to previously on the phone didn’t take any notes of his call, i.e. did not do his job, and therefore I couldn’t get my appliance. I ended up buying from Appliance Canada.

This is about Sears’ appliance repairs. Don’t EVER call them. I made the mistake of calling them. Rude technicians, don’t show up after waiting 4 days per scheduled appointment, customer service reps are clueless, after all that there’s nothing they do to compensate for the inconvenience. fridge is still not fixed, and will be 11 days since we called them. How is Sears going to survive? It has the worst brand for everything.

I have long thought that Sears is the worst company in the world. However, I returned to Sears for the first in years for a sale where they were matching a US store’s prices on appliances. To make things, easy I asked them to match their own US store’s price on a Bosch washer/​dryer. They were willing to do so, and it saved me about $ 1,000.
They came to deliver the washer/​dry a few days later. They took my old one away and half way through assembling the new one, they realized they didn’t have the parts to make them stack. So they left the dryer in the middle of my kitchen floor (great place, most people don’t use that room) and told me they’d return that evening with the parts. It would actually be almost two weeks before they completed the installation of my washer/​dryer during which time they apparently orders the part three times and lost it each time.
I made no fewer than 28 calls to their customer service. Several times I was put on hold, and just when I was really getting into one of the pop songs they were playing, they would just hang up on me. Not just once, or even twice, this happened to me 6 times! Some people were honestly trying to help, and but most where just not interested in dealing with an unhappy customer and would transfer or disconnect to get away from me (I didn’t think I was THAT bad!).
In the end, I returned to the store the manager gave me an additional $ 400. I’m tempted to give Sears 2 stars for that, but I can’t. Sears is undoubtedly the worst company in the world. Don’t shop there.

Sears should just change their slogan to «we can’t believe we’re still in business either». For a major department store in a tourist attraction mall in the city, they sure don’t give a s — . The displays are uninspired and sloppy, the staff are lethargic and unhelpful, and the store has a discount department feel.

This is the most shameful Sears I’ve ever been to. Every time I walk in there I feel as though it’s the location Corporate forgot. The shoe department is so sad I think its beyond the crying for help stage, and should really just end it. Really. All their sports shoes are from the 1990s-​2002 era. The «fashion» shoes are even worse. And they are all piled up so haphazardly and are falling all over the floor, it seems like you just missed a Black Friday sale. But you didn’t. It just looks that way.
Their home furnishings are sadly out of date, as is pretty much every other department. I got a Sears giftcard for Christmas, and besides Tassimo cups, there is nothing in this store I’d want to buy, and I’ve looked, believe me.
I honestly don’t know if its because they have a planned major renovation coming up, or that they don’t feel they can compete with the Bay, but this location is so much worse than any other Sears I’ve been to — even the ones in small towns.
I just wish it would roll over and die already. The suspense is killing me.

Sears has always had the very worthy distinction of serving the middle class population, from the catalogue operations for people in rural areas to the stores typically attached to malls. This Sears downtown opened with a lot of fanfare, with a lot of nice fixtures and some exclusive lines, but over the years it looks like it has decayed into a typical suburban Sears. Messy, with very little pride in products (tons of dust everywhere… a friend once told me she was looking at mugs and there was a dead bug in it!) — lots of polyester shirts in the women’s section with tacky patterns. Also, a lot of markdowns, in some sort of desperate attempt to get people to shop here. So all that to say — if you are stocking up on practical items, you’re sure to find it here. However, in a city where the middle class is shrinking, Sears has to step up its game.

According to the message broadcast over the loudspeaker system every five minutes or so, this Sears has a «Justin Beiber fashion department.» I didn’t have the courage to go check it out, so this review is only about the menswear department.
I needed to buy some basic dress shirts and figured Sears was a safe bet. It took me a while to find any in my size (14.5, ³³⁄₃₄) but I left with a set of blue and white shirts. It wasn’t until I got home and tried them on that I realized that while the packaging listed the size as 14.5, the shirts themselves were 15.5s, and way too big for me.
Today I went to return them, a totally hassle-​free experience. The sales clerk was pleasant and professional. After two trips to the fitting room and trying on seven different shirts I concluded that Sears just wasn’t going to have anything that fit my slim, short build; even the «slim cuts», which fit better around the body, had arms that were way too long. I ended up just going to H&M and bought what I needed there, including appropriately skinny but non-​hipster ties, which Sears also lacked. I understand that American sizing/​cuts are different than European sizing/​cuts, but I feel like there’s a critical mass of short and/​or skinny people that Sears (and other stores where I have this problem, ie The Gap and its subsidiaries) should carry at least a small selection of smaller cuts for adult men.

Sears. It’s hard to get excited.
Having just moved to Canadia, we needed something to sit on and pronto. Where else would we eat, sleep and use our various iSlacker devices?
I assumed that we’d be able to find a decent quality leather sectional, either at a furniture store or possibly Craigslist. We hit quite a few stores and just couldn’t seem to find anything we liked.
During pride we headed into the Eaton Centre Sears to look for a toaster. To our surprise they had quite a selection of furniture and we figured ‘why not?’.
We found a couch we liked and were told it would take slightly longer than a week for delivery. Most stores were 3 – 4 weeks for an in stock item, and 4 – 6 months for something custom made. Yeowza!
In addition they were having a 30% off sale, which really sweetened the deal.
I’d take a few points off for delivering it two days after the said date, as well as giving us a window of 7am-​5pm. «Hope you have a good book» was the comment from our salesperson. Still, she called me on the morning of the delivery to tell me the couch would be delayed so no sweat.
The other thing that bugged me was that they didn’t unpack it and install the feet. This might seem trivial, however this is really a HUGE couch and it was a gigantic pain in the ass. One of the legs/​feet didn’t fit correctly and another had no fitting at all. Between drilling my own leg fitting, finding the right parts and removing all the packaging I wasted nearly 2 hours.

To me, this is just another Sears. This is a department store and I didn’t feel they had such great discounts and savings.

I have to say that while I’m not a big fan of either Sears or the Eaton Centre, from what I could see this is a huge, well-​stocked Sears. I was here yesterday as I needed to be in the area for an appointment and wound up with a very good buy on some clearance curtain panels.
The one drawback I found was that it was not immediately apparent how to get to the fourth floor listed on the store directory, since the main escalators did not seem to go there.
It’s always hard to tell if multi-​level stores are as big as ones in malls, as the individual floors have smaller footprints. But this store seems pretty large and complete. I also noticed the furniture selection was less «cheesy» than in other Sears stores.
