Rent-a-Wreck and PractiCar Rentals Toronto Centre

This is my personal experience at this location.
A month ago, I made a reservation online couple of days ahead of Friday, and the following morning I received an email confirming availability of vehicle and dates i selected, and asked me to call in to finalize reservation. Instead, I went to the location I selected following day — they moved, use to be at 158 Eglinton Av. West and now they are at 181 Eglinton ave east, there’s no sign outside, just go in and take elevator to second floor — and met a representative who explained both rental options (with credit card or cash deposit) was friendly and courteous and finalized my reservation to pickup in 2 days.
I went with cash option. You pay $ 1000 deposit, they give you back $ 500 on return and hold $ 500 for 1 month to cover any unknown parking tickets, 407 toll charges, red-​lights tickets, parking tickets… etc. which is reasonable.
I arrived on pick-​up day and picked up the car (the van was not brand new model, but was clean and drove good). I paid upfront for the van rental $ 49.99 that included 200km/​day, plus $ 20 insurance/​day, and the $ 1000 deposit via debit. Their cars are not parked in same building parking lot, but the adjacent one. He did the quick walk-​around and identified existing dents, and let me know where to park on return.
I returned the car on Monday as agreed (he basically gave me 15 extra hours for free, was technically due 6PM the night before), he did a quick walk-​around, went back to his office and he refunded $ 500 as agreed, and informed me of date for remaining $ 500 to be returned, and on the agreed-​date (today) he sent me a money transfer for the balance of $ 500 — without having to go all way to the office, which was really convenient.
Side note, they have other car models as well, smaller cars for as low as $ 20 a day!
Over all, was a very good experience — highly recommended — will return again.

The service here was a joke. I reserved a sub compact, they only had medium size cars and wouldn’t rent to me for the price my reservation was originally. That’s a bait and switch. Then I get in the car and it smells like someone took a crap in the back. Ridiculous. Go anywhere else.

This was a great experience for me. The manager was very flexible in giving me the car I wanted and letting me drop off the car at off hours.
This is a cheaper alternative to competitors. I would recommend it if you want to go on a trip on a budget.
