Purolator Courier

I had two experiences with this company in the past. First, a year back, I had to pickup an item that they had on hold. No problem with the pickup but they have only few locations and I had to drive about an hour. 2^nd experience was few days ago, I scheduled a pick-​up and they gave me time frame between 9AM-​5PM. I was expecting that the pickup man will show up before 5PM but he did not. Finally around 4:40PM I went to Staples and dropped my item. About 5:10PM the office called and told me that the driver going to be late. By that time I already dropped it off thus I told her to cancel the pickup. Purolator is a friendly company but not so convenient. For corporate customer they are good option but not so much for residential customers, but If I need I will use them again. By the way, Purolator is own by Canada Post.

After reading the horror stories on this site, I wanted to avoid going to 800 Kipling at all cost. So I went on the Purolator website and tried the live chat feature. I asked if I could have my package shipped to a closer location, they came up with one nearly around the corner to my house, and said they will send tomorrow. It’s good to know this is an option, so try it out before schlepping out to the middle of nowhere.

Awful service for me in both Ottawa and Toronto. I don’t understand why retailers still use Purolator.

Firstly, I just want to thank everyone else who reviewed Purolator, because your reviews made my experience much better.
I did receive a notice sticker, but I live in a house. The odd thing is that they attempted while I was at home, and I’m pretty sure that I didn’t miss any knocks. I live in The Annex without a car, so I balked at the location, especially based on Linda M.‘s experience.
However, thanks to Laura C T.‘s review, I asked them to ship directly to the 33 Bloor East location, and I shall be visiting tomorrow to (hopefully) pick up my package.
The customer service at the 1 888 number was helpful, friendly and proactive, even though she asked me for the full address of the 33 Bloor E depot, down to the postal code and phone number.
Really, I wish there was a way of advising companies not to use certain couriers, because it discourages us from patronizing the company altogether.

This has got to be a joke.
In a city like Toronto, you’re telling me the only location I can pick up my shipment is 800 Kipling Ave??? are you kidding me?
Anyway, after calling them 4 – 5 times and going online through their representatives, I finally got my package. So, I’m not that angry anymore. As such I will change the rating from 2 to 3 stars.
Not impressed, however.

Ehh the whole point of paying to get something delivered is to actually get it to your door. That’s not the case with Purolator!
1) They try only one time to deliver
2) They don’t call even if you’re 5 minutes away from home by the time they arrive
3) Their customer service is the worst I’ve ever seen. The woman on the phone couldn’t hear what I was saying, tried to end the conversation without answering anything.
4) The only facility they have is at the other end of the city. Why am I paying for delivery if I have to go that far? I might just as well save the money and go to the freaking store.
On top of that the notice I get is «TORONTO (DWNTWN/​CTR VILLE), ON» without any address or anything. Only after I googled it, I managed to find this page and share my experience with them. It’s the last time I’m ever gonna use their services anyway.

Purolator «delivery service» is a joke. I ordered a couple shirts online and the company sent them via Purolator. The first time they claimed to deliver the package, I apparently wasn’t home. Fair enough; I work 9am-​6pm. But, they didn’t even leave a notice. I later received an automated phone message stating my package was available for pick up at their depot at 800 Kipling Ave. I wouldn’t have had the shirts delivered if I wanted to book it all the way out to Etobicoke by TTC. So I rescheduled a second delivery, but this time had them deliver it to my boyfriend’s house, as I knew he would be home. He was home all day. ALL DAY. They must not have delivered it, because he said no one called, knocked, or buzzed the house ALL DAY. Then later, he received an automated phone call (proving they did have his number), except he picked it up and wasn’t able to write down the new tracking number. That’s right, the NEW ONE. They don’t even keep the same number attached to the same package. Maybe this is why they’re so terrible; they confuse even themselves.
But wait; there’s more! So the next morning before work, I contacted customer service to figure out the new tracking number/​where my package was. It took almost an hour, because the agent wouldn’t look for it, saying they «don’t look up packages by names or phone numbers». WTF. My package would have my name on it. I realize the lack of tracking number could probably be a pain in the ass, but this is what happens when you don’t even get a real person to leave the message. It’s not like you can ask an automated message to repeat the number, and I don’t know about you, but I don’t carry around a notepad and pen at all times.
So, I gave the agent the old tracking number. She couldn’t even look up the package by the old tracking number. Shouldn’t the two numbers be connected?!
Almost 1 hour later we had found out my package was, yet again, available for pick-​up at 800 Kipling. So, I scheduled ANOTHER delivery for 2 days later. It didn’t come. The bf was at work, but his roommate was home and lo and behold, he never heard a knock or buzz either!
So here I am, a weekend later, needing to go pick it up myself. I guess I’ll have to fork over the money for a cab. Lame.
Do not use this delivery service. It is absolutely terrible.

UGH. I hate to knock Purolator, but this is the 2^nd time this has happened to me
I ordered stuff online, and although yes, they shipped really quickly, how quickly can they get it in my hands!
Their policy is to not leave a delivery notice if you live in an apartment (WHY NOT?) and the only reason that I know about the package delivered is because I so happened to check the status.
What they are supposed to do is call if they cannot deliver it, but they didn’t call.
The thing says, they scanned it out for delivery at least 3 times, but I am sitting at home, and no one buzzed nor called me!
So it says it’s in their downtown depot. That’s all it says «TORONTO (DWNTWN/​CTR VILLE), ON depot)» WHERE IS THAT? So I call customer service and they tell me they’ll try to get it to my apartment one more time. I am home ALL DAY and next thing you know, he’s been by 4:30 and no one called or buzzed me. Who knows if he really was here or not.
I’m so disappointed, and even worse that they don’t leave a slip. Once before, I didn’t know and the shipment got sent BACK to the SENDER. How am I supposed to know it had even arrived?
The worst part, is that I have no control over this. I“m not a customer, just a receiver.
EDIT: I contacted customer service and got a prompt reply. They said that they don’t leave slips because it’s a privacy issues (but other mailers do so…) and they are looking to implementing a system. She did offer to send the package from the Kipling Depot to one on Bloor and Charles. Although, I agreed, they tried to deliver the package one more time and I got it this time.

Does Purolator make it their goal to be as inconvenient as possible? Isn’t the whole point of having something delivered that it’s supposed to be convenient? I ordered a new phone online, and didn’t have a choice of shipment. A couple of days later, I had a new voicemail telling me that my package was available for pickup for about 5 days. So I had to get there with a short time limit, at Christmas time. Then I hear the address — 800 Kipling Ave? I’m on the west side, but c’mon! When I look it up, I see that it’s not even near the subway station, it’s a 20 minute walk or a bus ride south.
I opt to take the bus since it’s snowing. Luckily it’s not busy (obviously, since everyone is busy at Christmas, and no one wants to go that far!), but the guy at the front desk is rather rude. He’s not terrible, but he wasn’t friendly either. He got my package quickly though, and then I could get out of there.
Or could I. There’s nowhere to cross the street from the pickup location, so I have to walk a ways to cross the street to the next bus stop. Which would be fine, except that there isn’t even a sidewalk! So I’m walking on the curb of a busy road, in the snow. Lovely.
All in all, I can’t wait until I move across the city so hopefully I never have to pick up a package at this location again!

Do you see the single star on top of this review? I don’t want you to think of it as a star — giving Purolator an award of anything remotely connected to light would be an insult to the concept of illumination. The single star here represents a black hole which is, coincidentally, where many packages shipped via the Official Courier Service from HELL spend an indefinite amount of time.
As much as I would enjoy excoriating the whole of Purolator, I am going to focus my wrath on the customer disservice centre and why when you have a choice you should ship by ANYONE ELSE. The people who operate their «delivery» vans would be appropriately called «drivers-​by» as that is, apparently, their job description. To do a drive-​by of the titular delivery address– maybe pay some guy a $ 5 to slap a post it on now and again — but WHATEVER HAPPENS — do not get a package into the hands of a customer. Then — when you follow your parcel down the rabbit hole you end up at Mad Hatters Ball — the service centre. I could tell you stories — oh — there are stories. My favourite involves there being a crowd of people in the waiting area and me and the Purolator guy yelling back and forth as I described what I thought the package «might» look like — «Bigger!» I kept yelling — since by his own admission «I don’t know where they came up with this tracking number».
Frankly — I marvel at their continued existence …
Oh yeah — I am now official a Pur-​O-​hator. Word.

I really hate Purolator. I hate how «for security reasons» they don’t leave a sticker at your apartment to let you know they have been there. How else will I know if my freaking package came or not?!
I hate how I have to wait at home, from 8 am until 5 pm for the delivery guy to come. What kind of window is that?! Explain it to my dog that we can’t go to the park, because I have to sit a home all day and wait for the buzzer to ring. He is pissed!
I hate how their pick up depot is at freaking Kipling Ave. KIPLING! Thats not even IN Toronto, as far as I’m concerned. And if you don’t have a car, well… good luck getting there. Lets hope you have a friend who accepts sexual favours or baked goods for a lift all the way out there.
Purolator stinks. It makes me so mad.
