Pimlico Design Gallery is a worthwhile destination for professional designers and style-conscious non-professionals. Yes, it has unique items that would make welcome shower, wedding, anniversary gifts, almost always with a pop of colour, but its new location, closer to stores like Angus & Company, and Peaks and Rafters, is large enough to enable it to carry furniture, including upholstered seating, lamps and occasional tables. Prices aren’t cheap by mass-production standards, but Pimlico’s pieces aren’t mass produced. She’s pretty selective about what she carries, and she’s generous with her advice about space planning and colour combining, particularly helpful for people buying their first«serious» pieces. And if what you need isn’t there, but Ikea carries it, she’ll tell you that without hesitation. Not a lot of design stores will send you off to a big box store, but hey, the professionals use Ikea all the time. The selection of items does change quite quickly, and re-ordering takes a while, as much of the stock comes from Europe. So it’s worth calling ahead if you want something in particular.

An interesting and expensive store. At one end of the spectrum you have a $ 5 felt coaster that isn’t anything out of the ordinary, but at the other there is a cool end table for $ 2000. All this in the space of about 200 sq ft. Most of the items here are neat. They’re artist designed and you most likely won’t find them in too many other places. But for that fact you’re going to pay for it. Serving dishes or other bowls of the same will cost you $ 55 to $ 150 each. Buuuut, they’re pretty darn nifty. The stock of the store is home accessories. There’s some smaller pieces of furniture but for the most part it’s lamps, throw cushions, and things to put on tables and shelves. Check this place out if you’re looking for something unique. April Challenge 13⁄30
