What a nice surprise. Easy and ample parking in the back (unlike pet store in Liberty Village)
When I was a kid my friend worked at one of these chains and it wasn’t very nice to say the least. When we walked in this King location I felt as though I was in South Hill Home or UpCountry for pets. We were in the market for a sweater for pooch due to a close shave haircut in April and the weather was still a tad chilly. The girls were so helpful and the selection was very posh. I expected a quicky fix but ended up with a hand knitted wool sweater (with monkey face) –it’s extremely cute. The girls also offered a discount as it was end of season– there were no signs up for this sale yet– they were just being very generous and helpful. Needless to say we will be back.

This is a great store with ample selection of toys, food and accessories. Staff is attentive and knowledgable. I love the dog wash station — genius.

I’m so glad Pet Valu decided to re-​vamp it’s image. Once upon a time Pet Valu stores were grungy and jam-​packed. Now their franchise has a new look and organizational paradigm. It really makes shopping much more pleasant.
I really love this location because of the owners — they are hard-​working, dedicated people, willing to go the extra mile for their clients.
Their delivery system is great. We don’t have a car, so when I need a 11kg bag of dog food… or two… they will drop them off at my door for $ 10. The owners deliver their orders themselves each Friday afternoon… the poor guy hauled both bags up our front steps by himself (I hope he doesn’t develop a hernia).
Last month I purchased some food but forgot a couple coupons at home. When I brought them in later with the receipt, the owner said she couldn’t refund the difference (which is fine — it’s my fault for forgetting the coupons). Instead, she extended the expiry dates and said I could use them for future purchases. Awesome.
Not to be a snob, but I also like that Pet Valu carries some of the more «premium» dog foods. I like to see what’s new and try some of the other high-​protein brands.
Our location now sells beef marrow bones as well. This is great because I was walking to Global separately to get bones. Now it’s a one-​stop-​shop.
Lastly, they have a self-​serve doggy bathing station. It’s an all-​tile area with two bathing tubs, a walk-​up ramp (no lifting) and spacious drying area (doggy blow dryer included). Plus they have a selection of shampoo and conditioners to choose from.

I am so glad for this place — because it eliminates the need to travel up to Dufferin mall or the strange little grocery store/​pet food store around the corner of King & Dufferin. Besides the convenience factor (which is great, because when I just realize that I have no cat food an forgot to get more, I can run out in the PJ and pick’em up in a snap), here is actually someone I can talk to every so often when I have a question — whether it is a satisfying answer or not, that is better than a big «I dunno shrug» that you would get from the aforementioned places.
Another thing i really like here is the friendliness of the staff — they are always willing to help you, offer advices and help you carry things to the counter — which, is part of the job title but often over looked by those who hold that sales associate title.
They aren’t open until too late but just late enough to pick up the essentials on your way home from work, and open 7 days I believe… yes — have a visit. it’s good there.

It seems as though my experiences here have been totally different from that of my fellow Unilocaler. I recently fostered a special needs cat who was still on special food for a urinary track infection due to abuse and neglect. He had come with a small, bag of food and I wanted to see if this location carried it. During my visit here I found the staff very nice, patient and knowledgeable. It turns out my cat is on a special vet brand but the girl was still helpful by suggesting like-​products and alternate foods that could be suitable for him.
In the end I left with a few cans of premium cat stew which the associate explained will help my cat get more moisture since he hates his water and his regular food is dry kibble. She went over suggested portions, meal times etc…
All in all it was a good visit and I would recommend this location to friends.
