Nu Bügel

I was very saddened by my everything bagel with cream cheese, which was very very hyped.
The bagel was perfect BUT rendered almost inedible by how salty the crust was. I’ve never eaten something so salty. I had to forego the lovely seeded outside and tug away at the softer bread between for sustenance. I appreciated their generosity with the cream cheese but it was simply TOO MUCH. No one can have that much cream cheese. It felt wasteful. I scraped ¾ths of it off and then proceeded to scoop out bread from the crust. It was an altogether sad experience.
If I come back, I’ll request a non-​salted bagel and perhaps go with plain butter or even Nutella.

The bagels here are among the best in the city. I’ve been to Gryfe’s but prefer the dense and chewy texture of these Montréal style bagels. The sandwiches are delightful (there is a vegan option). But I always feel like it’s a bit over priced… so I often take a dozen to go and have them for breakfast all week.
My boyfriend loves the everything bagels. Warning: they are really salty! Not your average everything bagel, which is why he loves them. The whole wheat are vegan (last I checked), are they’re really good too. I’m careful when I buy them though because I once ordered them, got home, opened the bag, and found some really small and hard, almost inedible whole wheat bagels. I was disappointed they sold them to me. That said, I keep going back. I just check to make sure the whole wheats are looking good before I buy them. Overall, this place is one of the reasons I can never leave Toronto.

I have my go-​to menu items here on Friday mornings. Everything bagel and lox cream cheese. That is cream cheese with lox IN it. Smoked Salmon Cream Cheese. NOT cream cheese plus slices of lox. When I questioned why my bill came to $ 12.00, the employee (who I’ve never seen before) got into it with me saying lox and smoked salmon are 2 different things and I ordered lox slices. I got a little agitated as she got more and more defensive and at that point the owner walked in, refunded the difference of $ 7.00, and told me that «not everyone knows that it’s the same thing». Well guess what owner, its up to you to educate your employees.
Now, this experience doesn’t mean I wont return, as I really like the food but here are some tips:
1) Educate your employees
2) Train your employees not to argue with customers
3) Don’t defend your employees when they are making an error and are rude to customers.

I was very excited to try Montréal-​style bagels after reading the reviews, but the two girls behind the counter actually mocked me when I couldn’t read the price list (my glasses were fogged up) and ordered. Obviously, treating customers with courtesy isn’t their thing. My mistake for not being hip enough.

So, when you order from the right side of the menu they force you to take a salad. Force. Like, make you have a salad. Then, when you try to walk them through the logic of having an option to just let you but a Schwartz smoked meat bagel on its own without a salad they explain that «they don’t do that here». The staff member then pointed at the black plastic plate and said «see, the bagel would be here and then the salad would be there». :-| So, ya, I understand how plates work and the concept of eating a salad with a bagel, I just don’t want either of those things. She then offered me an extra bagel instead of the salad. Sure, whatever.
Fine, I’ll take two Schwartz smoked meat bagels with extra bagels for $ 29. TWO FOR $ 29. Yup, these are things.
They put onions on mine. I hate raw onions. Since they were going to force me to eat a salad I didn’t even try to get out of the onions.
What a horrible end to a fantastic day in the market.
The bagel was delicious. The meat, meh.

For a bagel place I was disappointed with the quality of my «everything» bagel. It lacked flavor and did not taste fresh.
I went with the BLT. Like the bagel itself, the ingredients somehow lacked flavor. Even worse, I think they cut my sandwich after cutting my date’s Lox (salmon) — my sandwich tasted like fish. Not the taste you want when eating a BLT …

Went with a friend to try the place out, heard good things.
Wasn’t busy, so I figured an order of two large black coffees, one plain bagel toasted with butter, wouldn’t be a problem.
Only get one coffee, and I’m told she’ll bring the rest. Wait another fifteen minutes for that second coffee, which I have to go ask for again. By the twenty minute mark I’d like the bagel I ordered, which they make wrong and put cream cheese on. Staff apologises and tells me they’ll get me another, which also doesn’t show up.
The coffee was admittedly better than what you’d get at a chain restaurant, but the bagel was no different from what I’d expect from a grocery or coffee shop chain. But when there’s a fifteen plus minute wait for the three items, and they’re only «good enough» for the wait and price. What the hype and rave reviews are for is beyond me, there’s other places to go to over this.

Awesome bagels and great coffee, would definitely go again in the future!

This place is great for a quick but filling and delectable lunch/​bite. They make their bagels in-​house daily (in a wood-​fired oven) and you can choose from a variety. They offer bagels with your choice of spread as well as full-​on bagel sandwiches.
The restaurant/​café has a good vibe with artwork on the wall and the hipster feel.
I decided on the smoked trout bagel on a coconut bagel while my partner had the lox and cream cheese on an onion bagel. The smoked trout bagel was nice and you can taste the smokiness through the fish and the sweetness of the coconut flakes on the bagel were a great little twist. I still liked the lox and cream cheese bagel more because the lox is in nice thick slices while the smoked trout was in chunks and made it a little tougher to enjoy. The sandwiches come with a nice spring mix salad too.
Tip: if you grab a bagel sandwich to go, you can ask them to substitute the salad for an extra bagel instead! :-D

Love this place. Excellent Montréal-​style bagels. Get the Smoked Trout Sandwich — Smoked rainbow trout, baby arugula, sweet horseradish jelly and pommery mustard; I like it on an onion bagel. So satisfying! It’s addictive.

Went there once. Ordered an everything bagel with cream cheese. Took over 10 minutes to get my order. Cost a ton of money and wasn’t fresh, friend said his bagel was rock hard too. Also the bathroom was awful. Would not recommended, go to the burrito place across the street

So, at first I was all like, «What is this place trying to be?! Who charges that much for a bagel, with a small bit of cream cheese on it? That’s ridiculous!» And don’t get me wrong, that price is ridiculous. If you come here for a bagel with cream cheese, that’s nonsense. Or you have money burning a whole in your pocket.
That said, if you buy a tub of cream cheese and a bag of a dozen bagels, then you are good to go! That’s excellent value. You’re looking at maybe twenty cents more per bagel than what you could get at a super market, but these bagels are NOT super market variety.
These are absolutely phenomenal bagels. They’re delicious tasty treats, and you’re doing yourself a disservice if you haven’t checked them out yet. Also, their cream cheese? That’s the good stuff!

THIS IS HANDS DOWN THE BEST BAGEL PLACE IN THE WORLD!
A must go to for breakfast if you are in the area or in Kensington Market. So my friend and I passed by here several time while we were in Toronto. We decided to eat breakfast here on our last day before we headed to the airport.
It’s a cute place and the employees here are so nice! They have several different types of bagels that you can choose from and different cream cheese to choose from. They also have a menu of different bagel meals that you can choose from.
I got the Lok & Cream Cheese on a coconut bagel. OH MY GOODNESS! MY TASTEBUDS JUST EXPLODED! I am huge on coconut and I’ve never heard of a coconut bagel, so I decided hey why not! The coconut bagel was perfect! It was toasted perfectly, and it was sweet but not too sweet. And the Lok was smokey and the cream cheese was great! It also came with a salad on the side with their own dressing on top of it. It was sweet and just tasted great with the bagel.
The price was also great for what you get. I enjoyed every single bite of it and will definitely be back when I visit my friend in Toronto again! I crave it! And I try looking for it around Atlanta and there are no coconut bagels!

I’ve never met a salty carb I didn’t like. I’m especially fond of delicious everything bagels covered in all of the seeds, salt, garlic and onion. Nu Bugel does everything bagels beautifully, wood-​fired and dense like Montréal goodness. One dozen for $ 10, or one for $ 3.50 toasted with schmear are delicious deals they offer on the regular.
I had my first bagel here in, and paired it with a soup. The soup was just meh, but damn they do their bagels well, and I will be back for a dozen very soon.

This is my go to shop for bagels! They make them fresh every day and. Do them right!
I love this place! I love the coconut bagels with peanut butter!
But their sandwiches and cream cheeses are made in house and to die for! I always take a dozen to go they give your freezer bags too, they’re great to freeze.
If your in Kensington I recommend don’t miss this place!

Freshly baked bagels, top notch. The place is pretty cool too. An indoor seating area and also a sunroom type area with bar table and couches. A nice selection of cream cheese too. I got the everything bagel with cilantro Chilliwack cream cheese
My only two complains are that bagels are $ 1. With plain cream cheese it’s 3.50. With flavoured cream cheese it’s 4.50. So you’re paying between 2.50−3.50 for cream cheese which is a little steep. Also the cream cheese I got wasn’t very creamy and tasted a little more like a yogurt and was slightly too salty, but it was still good.

Really friendly staff working that had a nice chat with us since we were from out of town. Super impressive bagel selection and you can see how fresh they are right in front of you! I have food allergies (to sesame seeds) so I unfortunately could not indulge, but my friend had a crazy good lox bagel and was not disappointed!

Amazing bagels! I was there yesterday for breakfast and tried the sesame bagel with cream cheese. The bagel was fresh from the oven and perfect, but their cream cheese really makes it. I’m already craving another!
Just wanted to update this to say I’ve tried their lunch sandwiches now which make such a good lunch with their house salad and dressing.

Walking by this place is part of my daily routine and ever since it opened I figured it was a gimmicky novelty place — wood fired bagels, yeah right, keep talking… There was something genuine about the dump truck pulling up out front each week brimming with freshly cut firewood, dried and aged and waiting to be sparked up and the smell of wood burning emanating from this Kensington breakfast spot was winning me over.
When I finally went inside, wow, was I wrong! Nicely thought out arrangement of wood tables and counter space with a handy pre-​counter to rest your bags on as you mosey over to the til. That’s thoughtfullness manifesting itself in interior design.
Lit up behind glass is an assortment of condiments and toppings for the bagel-​wiches that look intriguing and made with care and skill. There is a fridge with house cream cheese that look to be a hit with their dedicated client base. I also spotted some jars of pickles from Quebec. Interesting…
There is seating inside where you can watch the cook make bagels and hang them on wooden spikes, über cool to see that happening while munching on the gooey sweet bagel goodness that comes to life in your mouth. Then there’s the seating out front that seems to cantilever out and over the market traffic with its too-​ing and fro-​ing of people and stuff. I once had an apartment, a back-​split looking out over a terraced ravine backyard and it had 13 windows, each about 3 feet wide by 5 feet high. Nu Bugel has 13 windows, each about 3 feet wide by 5 feet high, and some of them can slide open, there’s nothing better! Highly recommended stop in Kensington!

It is one of the nice things in Toronto, you can try a lot of family business place!!!
This is the success example for it.
They are baking delicious bagels and creating wonderful sandwiches.

They serve Montréal style bagels here which are a bit denser in texture than say a NY style bagel. You can tell by that honey flavour that comes through beautifully.
They have a wack load of bagels ready to take so you will def find something that you like here. They also have a coconut bagel which I tried. I wasn’t a big fan of it, but others in my group loved it!
The space itself is very eclectic — it used to be a textile place many years ago and this place has kept in tact some signage and props to pay homage to the past.
They even found an old sewing machine while renovating and now use it on their coffee station.

If you are cheating on your «no carb» diet, than this is the place to go. A close second to the Montréal style bagel. They also make a variety of super yummy cream cheese too!

Oh yea, Nu Boogles are the BOMB DOT COM. You are getting super hefty, chewy, doughey freshly baked bagels. They are so dense that you could possibly cause some damage to someone if it hit them in the face (I like my Saturday Morning baguls with a touch of implied violence.) But on the real, bagels baked in a wood fire oven, 5 bucks for half a dozen awww yeaaaaaa.
Brought them home to my old man and schmeared them with some cream cheese and had em with home cooked bacon and eggs, so so good. These bagels are incredibly filling too!
RUN, don’t walk to Nu Bügel!

Awesome place!
One look at the bagels, I had to order some. I ended up with the Everything bagel. The best part was it just got out of the oven? It was nice and hot. Completed my order with two cups of black coffee. Nice, strong and smooth coffee too. Be careful, extremely hot! Took awhile to cool down. Price was spot on too. I forget how much, but i thought it was super reasonable.
My girlfriend and friend ordered the sesame. They were jealous that mine was hot, their bagel was room temperature. I had some, and it was pretty good too. Nice chewy texture compared to America.
The place would be great for a lazy morning breakfast/​early lunch. There are tables inside and outside (covered) patio. The place, i would say, is oddly juxtaposed to the grittiness of Kensington Market. I guess they are going through gentrification/​urban revitalization now so establishments like this will bound to pop up. Good find for me and my friends.
