Meet the Business Owner

Goldie L.

Business Owner

Growing up in Whitby, Gwen «GoldieLock’N’Load» McDonald enjoyed roller skating on the street in her white Dominion high tops and going to the local roller rink. But over the years, roller-skating fell by the wayside. It wasn’t until a bad breakup in 2007, when McDonald decided she needed to inject some fun into her life, that she thought about it again.

She hadn’t skated in years, and at first she was frustratingly «awful.» But the «young at heart» feeling she got each time she skated gave her reason enough to stick with it.

The line between her personal life and her roller-skating life had disappeared and she finally decided in 2011 that she needed to separate herself from her alter ego: «I realized that Gwen had almost been shoved out of the picture. I needed to bring her back and get a place for Goldie and her posse to hang out,» recalls McDonald.
